Question for people who have seen FJM solo, do you think his set at Newport will be better or worse solo? I'm a little skeptical, I feel like a full band set would have been better. Curious.
I haven't seen him solo, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing something a little different from him (even though he's always a little different).

It's all a matter of taste really. If you're interested in seeing him fly around the stage acting like a nutcase, it won't be that. He always subverts expectations and I saw a solo show.. expect a very reflective yet compelling performance where you can bask in how amazing his songs and singing voice is. They'll be moments of humor but overall it'll focus on the songs. His performance with his most recent iteration of his live band was the best I've seen, I would have enjoyed to see him bring that energy and rock the main stage. However after his polarizing performance at folk fest in '13 he'll probably win over the Folk Fest crowd with a much more toned down performance.

This is a pretty good summation of it. I think a full band set would be objectively stronger but a solo set will still be really good and a little more intimate. If I wasn't seeing him at two other fests and his House of Blues show, I'd be disappointed about missing out on the band. But seeing him solo was what took him from really good to great for me. Like you said, you get a deeper appreciation of the songwriting and his voice. Especially the latter. They should just give him two sets really
If I remember correctly we got lineup info on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays last year. Wednesday was Wein Wednesday and Friday was for fan spotlight.
I was literally just about to post this - so he'll probably be the first Sunday addition, I assume? I wish he was playing Saturday, as I would love to see them.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Lumineers to announce the "Cleopatra World Tour" tomorrow morning, the album and a new single "Ophelia"
And if you watch the video on their homepage, there's a Newport crowd shot.
Am I the only one who wants newport to give that potentially slot to a up and coming band, rather than I band that fairly inorganically exploded in popularity and then disappeared for a few years?

They played 2012 2013 and 2014, and took 2015 off. Not sure they really disappeared
