Been lurking on this thread for last few years. Couldn't convince anyone else into making the trip up from Pittsburgh last 2 years, but this year I took the plunge and bought tickets and booked a room. Excited for my first NFF.

Welcome burgheburg! You will not feel alone at NFF and yet you can if you want to. Either way it will go down as one of your best weekends ever. Then you will have another one about the same time next year. : )

Cat Stevens-- I hope this is the year. Bringing my Mom and she would crap her pants! Dawes with Brandi Carlile and Old Crow Medicine Show. Hmmm..... bring them all up North to RI!
What about the Barr Brothers and Beirut? I would love to see either or both show up
Not familiar with the Barr Brothers, and I missed Beirut
Barr Brothers are great and a perfect fit for NFF, you should check them out. I just checked and it turns out they were actually at NFF last year, so coming back is probably unlikely.

Interesting XPN lineup. Alabama Shakes as our Sunday headliner? Or maybe Friday.... Since I'm still not convinced that a comedy act is the main act at Newport.
I know the Districts have pretty much moved pass any sense of folkiness, but can we still get them please? Also hoping for Josh Ritter, Femi, and a Suffers return
isn't xponential in philly? that would definitely be out of our market
So it comes down to panorama / Newport?
i would think so. i can't tell if panorama would help or hurt newport, they would help bring more bands to the northeast the same weekend so smaller acts could be more readily available. the larger acts sort or come down to money or history.
2014 Xponential had a lot of crossover with NFF (Ryan Adams, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Lake Street Dive, J. Roddy, Jenny Lewis, Band of Horses) and 2015 had My Morning Jacket, Calexico, Field Report, First Aid Kit, Lord Huron, Courtney Barnett, The Lone Bellow as well (but Jacket as a surprise act due to Boston Calling) So I wouldn't rule out any XPoNential artist at all at this point.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
But I don't think the Lumineers will; it just wouldn't make sense for a small festival that can't give them a payday to offset the expenses.
Ha. It's not the one hop. It's the back and forth and back again. Doesn't seem economical as they would end up back in Europe. Like someone said, it's possible (even more I guess since it's a festival and not a tour) but it's just seems like a lot of traveling.
Looks like I might be wrong as The Lumineers are coming back to NA for the festival in Montreal on 7/29. Maybe The Lumineers will play NFF on Sunday?

I like The Lumineers, but I would be bummed to have them as a headliner, seems way too vanilla. They were suppose to headline in 2013 though, before NFF could afford to book Beck.
