Every year my girlfriend and I only go to the Festival on Saturday and Sunday. We use Friday to relax, go shopping, go to the beach, and go to the Deer Tick after party. I'm pretty upset about not getting Friday tickets this year considering the names lower on the Friday bill are names I've been requesting for multiple years now in The Staves, Raury, St. Paul and the Broken Bones and Radical Face... not to mention the inclusion of The Arcs, Flight of the Conchords and Ray Lamontagne. I'm also really worried that Bon Iver will somehow be the Friday headliner with the inclusion of a lot of Newport acts on the Eaux Claire lineup.
I'm still hoping to see some big names (for me) pop up on Saturday and Sunday such as Beirut, Joanna Newsom, Robin Pecknold, Terry Reid, Aurora, Eddie Vedder and The Lumineers.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Also, did you guys see that Toupin left Houndmouth?
That was terrible news. They're one of my favorite bands either way but she really set them apart from other bands and created a completely different dynamic. Hopefully they can find another unique female voice to fill her spot.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

In the best way possible, please do not put that Bon Iver idea into anyone's head around here. It's going to be devastatingly disappointing if some speculation starts up and it doesn't come through. They are THE perfect Newport band, and I imagine Jay tries to get them every year, but I wouldn't put it past Justin Vernon to be like "nah, imma just do my own fest and some random international dates until the end of time." Seen them twice and both were out of body experiences.
If anyone didn't pick up a Friday ticket and is going to be looking, they could be had for $40-$50 on the day before and day of last year off Craigslist in the area. And that was with Roger Waters playing. I am sure it will be the same this year.

It's already been in my mind this year for some time now lol.

A guys gotta dream. I saw them at Blue Hills back when it was the Bank of America Pavilion and I was just too far away although I still loved every minute of it. I really enjoyed seeing Volcano Choir right up front at Paradise a couple years back. I was expecting Newport to get them while they were touring as a way of getting Vernon in the door... similar to what they may be trying to do with the Black Keys.

Yeah, I am a little worried that Houndmouth can't make it without her, but I suppose we wait and see what they come up with.
I don't think they'll be around much longer. Katie was such a huge part of their sound and their identity. It doesn't seem right to hear them without her. I guess I'll find out at Mountain Jam how they have evolved. I do think they put on a good show (their first show at roo at the on tap lounge was killer), but I think they can be overwhelmed by their surroundings. Last year, at Roo, on Thursday, I absolutely hated their performance. I thought they just let the adrenaline get to their head and it was a lot of rocking out and a lot of off key singing and playing (imo). Here's hoping they can keep it together. I like being wrong.
Grizzly Bear announced a new album. This seems totally like something that'll put them on the Newport lineup (Beck announced a new album out of nowhere before ending up on the lineup as one of his first shows. Ryan Adams too perhaps?)

The album is still a ways away. They just announced that they're going into the studio next month. I'd guess it's more likely to mean they end up the festival whores of 2017, which is fine with me!

In case anybody saw/liked Andy Shauf last year (The one performer I missed that I wanted to see last year because I was sitting in Newport traffic)... His tour looks to be leading him to Newport again. The fact that he's scheduled to be playing with case/lang/viers from roughly June 23rd to August 8th makes me think that he'll be playing on Friday. Have I mentioned that I really regret not getting Friday tickets?

About 5 minutes after Middle Brother were announced. I'm already hoping for M. Ward and a Jim solo set, but if those were to be sacrificed (not that they'd have to be) for a MoF set, I'd be alright
The first add where my reaction is just "Meh." But that's fine. It's always good to have a couple acts I'm not really interested in seeing to ease potential conflicts
They're really loading up on those Friday adds though. That's the 5th one in a row
Interesting response from them. I guess now we know why they haven't been/likely won't be at the fest. Too bad about Paul. Next year give me Monsters of Folk one night. That's all I ask.

Been listening to Basia , I'm kinda hooked. What a wonderful voice!
She has such an amazing voice. I saw her open up for a local band last year at this tiny theatre in the middle of nowhere. After a few songs she started singing from the edge of the stage without any mics. It was one of the most beautiful things I've every heard.

I think that was the show I was watching on YouTube last night. Was that in Canada?
