Haha i forgot it happened until i was scrolling backwards
That was the guy who never posted in this group before right?
Oh, juggs shows up in this thread now and then. He actually lives in the northeast so he's attended Newport and is quite familiar with the fest. Just don't poke the bear.
Does anyone else get the feeling that they are not going to announce the headliners until they happen " day of " this year? If Norah is not headlining, then I feel like that's where they are going.

That's actually the best case scenario. Take one of the most unique festivals in America and make it more unique, more exciting, and more memorable. I'm absolutely all for it.

I think that's the best way to do "unannounced sets " because you're going to be at the main stage anyways. It's not like you're risking missing something.

I don't think all three will be but I definitely think its possible one or two might, I don't think they would do it unless there is another contract forcing them to
Sometimes I wish I wasn't so involved in Inforoo because no unannounced is truly unannounced for us and Bonnaroo lineup drop has completely lost it's excitement.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Dangit! No unannounced headliners! I like the excitement leading up to it! A few surprises sprinkled throughout the days are great, but I would hate surprise headliners.

I think they have a good enough track record with unannounced acts that it builds not reduces excitement. MMJ and James Taylor were awesome and the only people that walked away from the Dylan set disappointed were those expecting Bob Fest 2.0.

I agree with mrpotatotrooper. My favorite part about festivals is psyching myself up in the months leading up to the fest. I think Old Crow and Ryan Adams were my most streamed artists on Spotify in the years that they headlined. I always respected Beck but wasn't familiar with his music; I really took to his music after I dived deep into his catalogue.
That's not to say I don't like surprises too. I am okay with a surprise headliner if it allows them to finally land Paul Simon, Neil Young, or Mumford and Sons. But if it was someone whose music I was less familiar with (say Roger Waters solo stuff), I'd feel cheated that I didn't have time to fall in love with the music before the fest.
I just thought of something today as I picked an album to stream while working at Starbucks...
What if the Ryan Adams' open tour date on July 23, while being sort of in the vicinity of Newport, is for one of the following:
1. A surprise (or one-off) reunion of Whiskeytown at Newport. 2. A surprise performance of 1989 in its entirety at Newport.
Man would I be so jealous if either of those happened and I wasn't there. If either were announced, I'd do everything to get a ticket and be there that night.
