Ready to join the discussion and bring in my two cents.. feels like any day now we will get the Jane Pickens announcements. This could be the year for Paul Simon, with the new album I could see him finally taking the pay cut after Roger Waters raised the bar in terms of prestige acts especially with the positive press. Also could be the perfect platform for Bon Iver or Justin Vernon in some context, with another frequent collaborator Phil Cook being tossed into the mix. I also agree about Arcade Fire, although they aren't really promoting anything right now are they? Could be a good jumping off point to return to the studio though. I think this year they're really going to shock us with the headliners, especially after the past two years Jack White and then Roger Waters. The fact that we're not seeing any big names and the undercard is filled out pretty well supports that idea too, since Jay wouldn't want any of these smaller acts to be overshadowed and everyone to have their time.. we will see!
This is the type of optimism, not "it has to be (Neil Young Paul Simon U2 Macca)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!," I like to see. Also, Arcade Fire has been/was working on a new album in New Orleans for a while. I'm sure the Pres Hall guys have been whispering in their ear throughout.

I also think this makes sense, considering the fact that they seem very concerned with the resale of tickets this year. They Created that secondary market where you can sell tickets to the festival. I think their is a reason why they are concerned about the resale of tickets, and they will wait until the last minute , or unannounced for these headliners.
Thoughts:
Cat Stevens ( cancelled NY shows a couple years ago , due to scalping )
Justin Vernon ( in some capacity )
Paul Simon
Eddie Vedder
Oh man - I was really hoping people would utilize their 'official' resale option through ticketmaster because i just couldn't swing a ticket when the went on sale in December - but everyone is holding steady. not a single ticket to be had. And stubhub is crazy.
I'll keep my fingers crossed - do you think some people may utilize that option as it gets closer or am i totally out of luck?

This early in the game, Stubhub is always crazy high. People here are trying to profit. By early July prices will drop as people just want to unload rather than take a big loss.

Thanks! that makes me feel a bit less uneasy. I fully plan on being there it's just a matter of how much extra i'm going to have to shell out!
if any of ya'll know anyone looking to unload i'll be around!
I've also been listening to some of the philly folk fest bands and The Sheepdogs are awesome! Definitely adding them on my list of people to catch in the future.

I said it a few pages back but last year Craiglist in the area was flooded with single days for $40-$50. I ended up selling and extra Friday for $50 half way into the day and thought I made out really well. Also, it pays to be friendly. Told a couple festival friends both on here and at the fest that we were just going Friday amd was offered free tix for the weekend multiple times.
Sheepdogs are good. Have a free show coming up next weekend to catch them.
Hang in there regarding tickets- they will appear a week or two before as people firm up their plans and life happens. Right know we are all optimists that we will make it. Definitely don't pay crazy prices.
Just going to throw this out there but if they're remaining on the low for headliners, I think we have something big this year. My guess is Mumford & Sons for Friday in conjuncture with their upcoming collaborative album and with that, they could invite raury and baaba maal with them. On Saturday, I'd love to see Ryan Adams acoustic and maybe bring some friends on stage to join him (i'm looking at you, norah jones). And finally on Sunday, I could see Newport doing a tribute collaborative performance like they have the past two years with The National leading a "Day of the Dead" tribute for the Grateful Dead with some guests from the upcoming album, on stage. Just an idea...

Agreed on Day of the Dead and Mumford. Not so much on Adams because I just feel it's too soon. But who knows.
I started thinking about Mumford back when they didn't announce a local show on this summer tour.
I think it's odd that they didn't announce a Boston area show.
