Are we thinking there may be some unannounced sets? Personally I'm going to have enough conflicts already that it makes me nervous, but again, Newport magic.
I hope we get some unannounced artists. I did ask Newport a week ago about the unannounced sets, and they said their would not be any. But I think they are just trolling
After the Bob Dylan fiasco of last year, I am trusting everything they say and not taking anything as trolling.
Looking at the Friday schedule, mine is looking like:
The Staves, 12:40pm - 1:30pm St. Paul & The Broken Bones, 1:55pm - 2:45pm Violent Femmes, 3:10pm - around 4:00pm so I can get to... Case/Lang/Veirs, 4:10pm - around 4:30pm so I can get to... Ray Lamontagne, 4:40pm - around 5:30pm The Arcs, 5:35pm - 6:35pm Flight of the Conchords, 6:40pm - Close
I'm sad about the conflicts, but I'll take what I can get and make the best of it, I guess. I'm still debating on whether I want to catch all of Ray Lamontagne and miss some of The Arcs set, but I'm not sure.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for y'all... but my lord, am I gutted. Anyone who knows my tastes even moderately well, knows that a festival headlined by FotC & Patti Smith is pretty much my fucking wet dream. Put that all in a pretty li'l oceanside Fort, and the FOMO is strong with this one.
Texas native and Epiphone fan Leon Bridges is on the fast train to fame these days. His tour of England and Ireland, backed by his band the Texas Gentlemen, has seen several venue-jumps from club to theater and his debut album, Coming Home, is getting rave reviews. He'll be taking his crack band and his Epi Sheraton II (as well as his Les Paul) to the Newport Folk Festival this weekend before returning to Europe for a tour of the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Germany. Don't miss him at the Austin City Limits Festival in October.
So the backing band. Maybe a surprise appearance by Leon or some others.
My guess is that it is the replacement for songhoy blues, who they just announced dropped out. I have no idea what it is but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a newport favorite under a different name
Margo Price v. Nathaniel Rateliff is probably my worst conflict. Other than that it's just some unfortunate overlap (FJM against Patti Smith, Lady Lamb between Rateliff and Ryan Adams)
I'll be making some tough decisions on the fly as for which partial sets will win out on the conflicts but it looks pretty much like this:
Wild Child > Amasa Hines > The Staves > Fruit Bats > St. Paul and Broken Bones > Violent Femmes > Case, Lang, Viers > Ray Lamontagne > The Arcs > Flight of the Conchords
Banditos > Amy Helm > Nathaniel Rateliff > Ryan Adams > Graham Nash > Norah Jones > Father John Misty > Patti Smith
River Whyless > Strumbellas > Son Little > Julien Baker > > PHJB > Middle Brother > Elvis Costello > Edward Sharpe > Alabama Shakes
Looking forward to Amasa Hines waking up everyone up on Friday morning...

Damn, I was hoping when I read that Texas Gentlemen were backing Leon Bridges that it would be the group with Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block (the guys that left White Denim) but it looks like a different group. Still seems like it would be up my alley, though.
The Texas Gentlemen - For fans of The Band, The Beach Boys, Little Feat, Wilco and My Morning Jacket.
The Texas Gentlemen were born in the high weeds of an unkempt yard in the forest of southern Dallas. Having played together for years, the gentlemen that make up The Texas Gentlemen decided to come together and play some favorite songs of theirs. While the band is made up of many Texas based bands and artists (Leon Bridges, Jonathan Tyler, Larry g(EE), Dovetail, Wesley Geiger, The Misteries, Fortune Field, to name a few), when they come together they create a brand of music that is completely their own. Inspired by predecessors The Band, Leon Russell (and his magical Mad Dogs & Englishmen), George Harrison, and newer artists Monsters of Folk and Tame Impala - The TX Gentlemen gladly display their influences while showing off their own brand of southern, blues, soul, song-writer based rock. To put it simply, it's incredible music that people can tap their foot to, sing every word, and scoot on out to the dance floor if their hips are so inclined. The band is also known to be some of the best studio musicians in the region having performed on almost all of Beau Patrick Bedford's productions (Dovetail's 'Mount Karma', Larry g(EE)'s 'Weekends', Erica Perry's 'Wandering Daisy', Peter Black's 'Heads Many Hands', Jonathan Tyler's 'Holy Smokes', Bad Mountain's 'Bad Mountain', Kirby Brown's 'Child of Calamity', Wesley Geiger's 'El Dorado', among many others soon to be released albums).
Members are: Ryan Ake, Beau Patrick Bedford, Daniel Creamer, Wesley Geiger, Aaron Haynes, Nik Lee, Matt McDonald.
Guests members include, but are not limited to: Jonathan Tyler, Sam Anderson, Dave Matsler, Kirby Brown, Nate Wedan, Brandon Pinckard, Jordan Cain, Jeffrey Saenz.

ok.. I do have 1 three day pass that could find itself a new home. Unless someone here has released one ticket of a multiple purchase without issue, i'm sketch on going through the fan to fan release.. would prefer to see it go to someone here through a private exchange before pursuing ^^. (pm if there is interest)
( Cap'n Mac - all you'd have to do is take a 22 hr flight )

Well shit I like all of them guys so maybe Amy Helm will just have to understand if I go to see a band cover her father.

Awww... yer a peach, Fawn! The most frustrating part? If NFF were a month later, I'd only have to take a 3.5 hr flight. Totally kinda sorta almost doable-ish.

A lot of conflicts for me and no "unannounced sets" on the schedule. But has anyone noticed a large gap on Saturday between Noon and 1:40 on the Quad stage?Very conspicuous when you look at the rest of the schedule. Hopefully a surprise there. Very much looking forward to the weekend as always, regardless.
