Alabama Shakes seem like they might not quite fit the vibe, but I could see Jay bringing them back just because they've played. Everyone else makes sense
The Shakes played in 2012
Hence why I said "bringing them back." I just meant that the new album has taken them decidedly out of the Americana realm
I just got my tickets in the mail. They have never been delivered this early. Additionally , they combined all 3 days into 1 ticket....interesting...
They had said they were not going to split tickets to help fight scalping. Wow that is crazy early to ship!
I think it's gonna screw them next year. People buy the 3 day passes so they can see the bands they want, and then sell the others...bad move in my opinion

How's it going to screw them? They're going to have a sellout regardless.

Agreed, I'm just saying that they likely won't have the fast early sellouts of the years past.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I would count Alabama Shakes as a lock with their tour.
Also, not sure how their vibe is any different from an MMJ or Deer Tick act.
I mean Deer Tick still have a lot of Americana and soul in their sound, but MMJ is a good example. Are Alabama Shakes a headliner at Newport? In terms of popularity they definitely are, but Newport doesn't necessarily care about that.
I can see them setting up some special ticketing system that will allow you to sell part of your 3 day passes as individual days. but you must do it through their system.
Until the Roger Waters bombshell last year, I may have pegged someone like the Shakes as a Friday HL.
Now I see them a pre-HL unless they had to go big on someone at the top of the lineup.
I was going to say that they are either a headliner on a stacked day or a pre-headliner for a big name. I don't see them as anything else at this point.
Do you guys think Joanna Newsom might play? I know her tour ends in April but I think there's a good chance it gets extended. I think she'd be a great fit.

Just spotted Divers in the "Folk/Country" section of my local record store, which houses almost 100% Newport artists, so we should take that as a sign that she'll be there
Not sure if I should believe that Newport is being cautious of the scalping this year because they are planning a massive artist, or because they want to...
