I haven't listened as much to The Gloaming as I should, just two or three passes through their debut, but I'm oddly really excited for their set. Thomas Bartlett really impressed me last year when I saw him play with Sam Amidon, and I'll take any chance to see him again. Everything I've read about The Gloaming suggests they're very, very good live.

Because you gotta fill the days till next week somehow...
Top 10: 1. Anthony Braxton 10+1tet 2. The Gloaming 3. The Necks 4. KSO/Schick performing Adams et al 5. Vijay Iyer & Wadada Leo Smith 6. Yo La Tengo 7. Sunn O))) 8. Anthony Braxton Trio 9. Wolf Eyes 10. Tony Conrad
I told you to arrange my sched for me; this request still stands. Send it to me when you're done?
Friday and Saturday? Why not.
Friday: Marc Ribot (Sanctuary) > Drones (for a hot second) > Zeena Parkins & Tony Buck > Chris Abrahams > Anthony Braxton 10+tet > FREE BEER & BBQ > Hieroglyphic Being + Marshall Allen > Vijay Iyer + Wadada Leo Smith > Eighth Blackbird (Sanctuary) > Outside The Dream Syndicate > Jarr > Late Night Drones
Saturday: Steven Schick > Phantom Orchard > The Necks > Anthony Braxton Trio > Sunn O))) > Circuit des Yeux > Kiasmos
Forget Kamasi v. Kiasmos. For me, the worst conflict is Thursday night, between The Gloaming and Wolf Eyes.
For as much as it pains me to say this: If that was my biggest conflict, I'd go to The Gloaming. It's not like they tour the US that often. Wolf Eyes is on a mission to play every rat infested club and basement across America. I've seen them twice in the past 6 months alone.
Hmm that's mostly what I was thinking already for Saturday; I haven't put as much thought into Friday yet since I still haven't bought the ticket. Which I oughta just, like, do now. But I'm in the middle of putting money down for rent for a new place with my sista, and I need to transfer funds from one account to another before i make more purchases. Tomorrow though, I shall do it!
But what about that "???" spot at the same time as Anthony Braxton Trio - is that gonna be filled in with an entirely new act?

No worries. She lies. I'm going to be in Raleigh on Saturday to rock out to some psych-folk and she basically said she's busy.
Boyd's is up:
Knoxville Obscura As part of the free weekend-long programming to take place at Boyd’s Jig & Reel, Knoxville Obscura will celebrate the vast and varied history of Knoxville’s music scene and beyond.
The following events are presented by Knox County Public Library’s TAMIS, the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound.
TAMIS: Knoxville’s Secret Past • 7pm-8pm, Thursday, 3/31
A presentation of archival audio recordings and film footage from the 1910 through the 1960s, including rare views of downtown Knoxville’s changing landscape through the years and an exploration of the city’s diverse music culture.
TAMIS: “Satan is Busy in Knoxville” • 12:30pm-1:30pm, Friday, 4/1
Knoxville has a long and rich history of blues and jazz music, but many of the performers have all but been forgotten. Using archival audio recordings, film and photographs, Bradley Reeves illuminates the little known history of Knoxville blues women Ida Cox and Leola Manning.
TAMIS: The Knoxville Stomp • 2pm-3pm, Saturday, 4/2
TAMIS preview their upcoming Festival of Forgotten Music, including a look at the Bear Family box set release of the Knoxville Sessions, rare recordings and archival footage from the TAMIS vaults and an excerpt from the film Silent Stomp
Gonna try to squeeze Saturday in.

As an FYI,
The weather report this morning has a 50% chance of rain Thursday and a 60% chance on Friday. That being said, it's still several days out and there's a 50% chance it'll rain every day in Spring here.

Also, for the weather update, it is looking like the lows will be between the low 40s and the mid 50s depending on the day. Rain still looking likely for at least one day for the weekend.

Although it also conflicts with Braxton, I'm stoked about the Muhly/Amidon show with Nadia Sirota. She's the host of the kick-ass podcast "Meet the Composer", and an excellent violist in her own right.

I really want to like them! On paper they read as if they would be one of my favorite bands! And I love their latest with Scott Walker. Unfortunately the last time I saw them it was just WAY too loud for me to enjoy... And I get it. I know that's part of the whole experience. But (and I think I've mentioned this here before), the frequencies + volume made my ribcage vibrate in a way that more or less felt like I was vomiting. Or something. Totally respect them, but not sure I need to experience that again. Then again, there is something compelling me to give them another shot. If only they weren't paired against Marc Ribot. DECISIONS!
