For those who have been going to this fest for a while how much has it changed over the years? I had so much fun at Lollapalooza 2010 and I've been looking for an excuse to go back ever since.
It's changed quite a bit since then. The 75,000 sloppy drunk, puking high school bros that make the festival an unbearable shithole only had iPhone 4s back in 2010. Now they have iPhone 6s.
Sounds like every festival, give or take a few thousand.

For real though, the crowd skews noticeably younger these days than it did in the early years, although maybe it was already on its way by 2010, I can't remember exactly.

Seemed like the average crowd age with mostly 16 to early 20 somethings. I'm guessing younger means like 13 or 14 year olds? Boston Calling is very similar unfortunately.

The average age of the crowd is somewhere in the 20's (Greg Kot released a bunch of stats about the fest after it finished last year, too lazy to look up the article). If you go near Perry's it skews way younger, but I'm 32 and still felt young in the crowds for Macca and Metallica last year.

It's not.
- Every festival
Yeah obviously something like Moog fest won't be like that, but festivals that are the same size as Lolla and book similar acts? Yeah. Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lolla, Gov Ball, etc.

Younger, I guess. I'd like to check out that Greg Kot article mentioned a few posts earlier. Dumber? I dunno. I've seen plenty of stupid at Roo and Coachella and it's even more obvious when you're camping around these people for three or four days.

"In just two years, there has been a 10 percent decrease in the number of concertgoers between the ages of 35 and 54 and a corresponding increase in the number of patrons from 18 to 24, according to information for the 2012-14 festivals posted on the Lollapalooza website"

Isn't that what I said? 18 to early 20 somethings?

If the headliners really turn out to be Radiohead, LCD, J. Cole, Lana, Ellie Goulding, Major Lazer, and Disclosure, I guess it really cements Lolla's new trend of booking one to two great headliners and phoning in the rest.
Gotcha. I misinterpreted younger as 14-17 as in high school kids.
People always act like the festival is filled with high school kids trying drugs/alcohol for the first time. It's greatly exaggerated.
If something's exaggerated, by definition it's also kinda true.
All in all Lolla's fine though. I don't mean to hate too much. Paying $110 for a day pass so I can see Radiohead in a GA setting is 100% worth it to me. Toss in 2-3 other bands during the day that I like, and an after party, and it's a nice little time. But then again, I do have a free place to stay in Chicago.

At this point is LCD really considered a great headliner for Lolla? They're playing everywhere this year.

They're getting a little over saturated, but LCD looks the second coming of Jesus compared to those other headliners.

It depends on who you ask. I live in Chicago and my GF works HR at one of the medical schools here. I have had several conversations with doctors that work the emergency rooms in the city during Lolla and they all have indicated that they get absolutely slammed with kids having drug related issues. Keep in mind that ambulances divide the emergency drop offs among several hospitals in the city to help distribute the patient load. The doctors I spoke to do not look kindly on Lola in this regard.
In Lolla's defense, every event I go to in the city that has a relatively high number of EDM acts and no age restriction has the same issues.

238 people were hospitalized out of ~300,000 attendees. That's a lot of people going to the hospital but compared to how many go to the festival, it doesn't seem like that big of a number to me. It was also down from 314 and 303 the previous 2 years. It probably is a lot for local hospitals to deal with but I think most festivals will bring that with them, especially with no age restriction. Unfortunately with how prevalent the EDM has become, it's probably mostly the people at Perry's that end up being hospitalized.

God dammit Horn, now you're making me consider going to Lolla just for that day. If I can see things as magical as the War on Drugs and Flying Lotus DJ set aftershows again, I just might.

Fair point comparing the number of people hospitalized vs. attendees.

Well after seeing Roo's "anniversary", I've decided to lower my expectations for Lolla. I'm very excited for my 5th consecutive Lolla, but if that guy turns out to be right, this is lazy booking all around. I'm taking a train from Rochester, NY, which is 11 hours from Chicago. I know what to expect with Lolla, so that's why I have no problems paying blind since 2012(my first Lolla). Still, last year while a lot of people bashed the undercard, I thought that was one of their freshest to date, especially after 2014's debacle. I mean Paul Mccartney(expensive single ticket), Metallica(expensive single ticket), Florence(expensive single ticket), then Brand New(who wasn't playing everywhere last year, and now are having their farewell tour), TVOTR(who hadn't played Lolla in a while), Tyler the Creator(who had never played Lolla before). It was an eclectic lineup, and I really feel like I got my money's worth. Now flashforward to 2016....and we could be looking at something like this? I added in Muse, just because I feel like they'll be here, unless it's Arcade Fire.
Samsung*
Radiohead-Friday
Muse- Saturday
LCD Soundsystem- Thurs
Ellie Goulding- Sunday
*Bud Light*
Lana Del Ray- Saturday
Major Lazer- Friday
J. Cole- Thurs
Disclosure- Sunday
This is lazy booking, because there's no surprise here. Everyone is playing everywhere else, except Radiohead and Muse. Headliners surely don't make a festival IMO, but Radiohead sells this thing, and C3 should be ashamed.

That 300k number isnt unique festival attendees. I'm guessing that 238 hospitalizations were. Also, those people taken to hospitals were probably a small percentage of the people that were treated onsite. If memory serves the temperatures were pretty mild last year too so you dont have a spike in heat related incidents.
