Only all of Sunday. My dad has never seen Neil Young so this is really why we're doing it. $70 for Neil Young is too good of a price to pass up for him. He's a Principal and it's extremely hard for him to take personal time (he also doesn't like to) so the fact that he's taking off two days was very surprising to me. I didn't think I was going to be able to convince him but my mom helped. I really can't explain how excited I am. I not only get to see my dad who I only see a few times a year, but we're road tripping from Nashville to New Orleans for a weekend and seeing Neil Fucking Young!
That's pretty cool. Just know that there are so many people in town for both weekends, that dining can be a bit of a challenge - also you're in on Sunday when some restaurants are closed. There will be plenty to eat at the festival on Sunday, but you won't want to wait until 2pm when the lines can get unbearable.
I was in town over Halloween weekend in 2014, is the city more packed than that?
Has he ever done Jazziest before, and where is he coming from to meet you in Nashville?
He's never even been to New Orleans. He's coming from our hometown Jamestown, NY but most likely flying out of Buffalo.
We would be happy to give him some pointers, so he can enjoy the festival to the max. When my husband and I went, it was his first time to Jazzfest and I would imagine they are about the same age.

I would appreciate any information and advice as I have not been to jazz fest either

It will be on that level. The major difference is a lot of people in from out of town go out to dinner during Jazzfest whereas Halloween is more Voodoo then party in the streets kind of thing. One of my assistant's birthdays or anniversaries is around Jazzfest, and they always have trouble getting reservations for anything good except really early or late (e.g. 5:30pm or 9pm). Reservations now would help you get a shot at eating where you want to eat. Depending on how much balling you want to do, we can give you recommendations. I'm assuming you are staying in the French Quarter, CBD or Warehouse District. If so and since you can only have one dinner meal, I'd say go to Peche which is unbelievably good and pretty casual. Don't sleep on Emeril's either. They have the name but they deliver some memorable meals. There are a ton of places I'd recommend before either of these for specific things (ambiance, cuisine, etc.), but you can't go wrong ever at either of these establishments. If you like seafood, Peche is it. They were the 2014 best new restaurant in America James Beard winner. They specialize in fire cooked whole fish which are always incredible. They also usually have an eclectic raw bar selection for this area. I actually like GW Fins better for seafood, but I don't know if they're open Sunday either, and it's a bit more dressier. Dig around and if there is anything you can find open on a Sunday you want a comment on, let us know.
Anyone been to a Midnight Preserves show before? What was the experience like? Feel like I HAVE to go to one while I'm in town, but with precious few nights available, I'm a bitttt on the fence if I should commit. I believe tickets go on sale around March.
1st Sat& 2nd Sat= Dead Feat @ Howlin' Wolf (presale night 1= fatman, night 2= eyes, only for today) 1st Sunday- P Funk @ Republic (presale code =cosmic)
2nd Fri- Los Lobos/ Tab Benoit (presale code= wolf) @republic 2nd Sat- Big Freedia LIVE BAND, Soul Rebels, Tank & Bangas 1 week presale code = bounce @republic 2nd Sun- Voodoo Dead II- Presale code for today only = sugaree @republic
I'm very interested in this Big Freedia live band! Ween will have to be first weekend if it's happening since as mentioned earlier, Dreiwitz is playing 2nd fri and sat with JRAD. Too early to commit either way. Almost ready to buy my Kamasi Washington ticket, looks like the 2am 2nd Friday show it is.

Someone posted about them last year - Postjack? I've never gone though we do a bunch of late night and overnight shows during the festival. They don't tell you who is going to play, but you have to figure Paul Simon and Jim James or MMJ will be at least 2 of the sets.

Email said /Soul Rebels plus Tank & The Bangas, so it's probably with Soul Rebels. As you know, they can play anything with anyone from Metallica to some bounce rap. That might be good. I met the lead singer from Tank & the Bangas a few years ago by accident. I was at an outside festival and she and I ran straight into each other and she asked me who the fuck did I think I was running into her like that? I laughed and talked to her, and she told me who she was. The band was just starting out back then, so I told her I'd come see them later that day which I did and she wasn't mad no mo.

Nope, I've never been. Never even been to Pres Hall.

I have been to Pres hall before but never a midnight show. It is cool as fuck but where they perform is small as fuck. Like 50 people in a can of sardines including the artist. I mean the back alley and the back room are larger but not the actual performance venue.

We went 2 nights last year.. Guys from arcade fire one night sat in as well as jimmy Buffett and shovels and rope with the preservation hall. They are classic and the whole place has a cool vibe... It only holds about a hundred folks. Can be veerrrrrrry pricey especially if you want to sit in one of the 2 rows of benches but it was one of the cooler sets of shows I be seen inner the years we ve been....you will not know who is going to be there until they show- cool concept- but Jim James pretty much started it and you know he ll be there...
1/22/16 Slocan Ramblers 2/5/16 Yonder Mtn String 2/18/16 Gary Clark Jr 3/14/16 Vance Joy 3/18/16 Los Lobos 4/14-16 Wanee Festival 4/22-25 Jazz & Heritage Fest 7/27/16 DMB TPA 9/2/16 DMB Greek Theater 9/14/16 Leon Bridges 10/30/16 Hulaween 2/3/17 Avett Bros 2/18/17 Sea Bay Blues Clearwater
I'm interested in hitting up a Midnight Preserves show but I ain't forking out a hundo not knowing who will be there. Like if MMJ was announced as one I would be all over that, but I'm not going in blind 2nd Friday for that kind of money.
I haven't started looking at night shows since so few have been released. But CEG sent out an email today stating Nolafunk Jazzfest Series was adding some more shows and dates. As of now, it stands at:

2) Ground Up All-Stars (Just announced) Thursday April 28, 2016 at Republic 10:00pm. Presale is now and code is shofukan though I have no idea what this is.
3) Dead Feat Saturday 4/23 - Anders, Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett of Little Feat, Jackie Greene, Brady Blade, Carl Dufrene with special guests, Papa Mali & Friends. Presale code is fatman

I was just offered a ticket to this for the second weekend. If I can get the travel and hotel stay worked out, I might be able to come rather than just look at the lineup and drool.

Remember a ticket is just one day
This. The second weekend is 4 days (Thurs - Sun) so you would have to buy 3 more tickets at $70 a pop.
When do these after shows stop rolling in? AKA when can I safely start locking in and have no fear of another sweet show popping up? Was all juiced for the Meters on Friday and now I see the London Souls have added a show that night too. So torn!

Probably through mid March or so but there should still be a late add or two into early April. If there is something you want to go to for sure, it doesn't hurt to get your tix early and also restaurant reservations. I think I heard OG Meters is sold out and probably at least one of the Dead tribute shows.
Can we talk about these shows getting announced? Joy formidable for $16!?!? Robert Randolph, then Cypress hill on Saturday. It's getting a little out of control. I'm fucked. My budget is fucked.

Damn. I hadn't (and haven't) seen Cypress Hill yet. I'm going to go to that. Also, both of the Joe Russo's Almost Dead shows are sold out.

I am so goddamn torn on what to do late-night. "The Heat" is looking awfully tempting 1st Saturday. Lettuce on 1st Sunday also lookin' real nice. But when do I fit in a Preservation Hall show?!? Don't know if I could live with myself going to NOLA and not stopping for a night at the Hall. Guess I could do two after-shows in one night if these PHJB shows don't start till midnight. Choices, choices....
