Earphunk is Daft Phunk: A Tribute to Daft Punk by Earphunk - Tips - 2nd Saturday Late
sounds interesting. i've seen earphunk open for other acts twice, and despite the 2005-era colorado-esque band name, they really bring it. should be a cool show.
I love Earphunk except I don't work no 9 to 5. We usually catch them after Christmas for my middle kid's birthday at Tips because he loves them too. I was thinking of hitting that but I'm not sure yet.
The Roots - Soul Slaughter: In Memory of Clarence "Trixzey" Slaughter
Orpheum second friday early
Fuck me. Tickets starting at $93.50?!?! Even if I was going to be in town and wanted to go, there is no way that I could afford that show.
geez I didn't even notice the ticket prices. having just got the $150 tickets for the last waltz show I might have to do Kamasi instead of the Roots. Or just eat and go to sleep because that's awesome too.
hey esteban did you say you were doing that ragefest show on Thursday? considering going to that.
Don't see it for sale yet, but that Helen Gillet Quartet (Skerik, Nickie Glaspie, & Brian Haas) show at Gasa Gasa on Thursday, April 21st looks great. Charlier Hunter + Johnny V and Johnny V/Krasno/Oteil Trio are at Maple Leaf that night too though. Still debating if I'll hit a show Sunday the 24th when I get back in town. Worship My Organ (huh huh), Dead Feat, or seeing The Word again could happen but might save money for 2nd weekend. Got tickets for Axial Tilt on the 30th, but nothing else yet.
Doobie Decibel System, who just got added to Lockn, are at Cafe Istanbul Wednesday the 27th. Thinking we'll be at that Jenn Hartswick/Natalie Cressman/Chris Bullock/Raymond Weber does Amy Winehouse + Turkuaz does The Band + Jazz is Phish show on Tuesday the 26th.
There is that one, the one with Lettuce and the Adam Deitch 3am birthday party, but that's gonna probably be q funk jam. Let me go look it up. NVM. Postjack got it.
Pretty f'n weak that they added a second Last Waltz show. Really makes it look like more of a moneygrab than it already was. Also diminishes the specialness of the original show. They coulda put everything into the one show in terms of special guests etc now.
May end up selling my Saturdays now this has me so jaded, if something hettier comes up that is.
2nd Thurs- Yojimbo, Justin Bieber's GF @ Hi-Ho (Skerik, Mike D, Deitch etc) 2nd Sunday- The Werks @ GasaGasa Rising Appalachia @ Parish (I've heard they are really good, haven't checked them out yet)
Kinda want to hit up that London Souls Revue 1st weekend. That band is so good. I went and saw them at Voodoo '14 during the Foos after I got pissed for not being let into the VIP area. Worked out very well! Walked right up to the front row. Got my face melted, then went back to Foo's, got into VIP area, walked in and asked some guy "Has Trombone Shorty come out yet?" and he says "Who? Nobody has come out", and then two songs later he comes out and the guy acted like I was a fucking wizard.

Yeah it's weak but hard to blame them. Add up all the ticket prices and that's some serious cash. Need the Saenger to keep making money so that they keep booking shows throughout the year.
Hoping they have different guests both nights. I imagine some will be similar and some won't.
As long as some epic shit doesn't happen at the first show only I'm fine. Buncha local dudes I've seen umpteen times? That's okay.
Neil/Dylan/Morrison only on first night (obv that won't happen that way) I would be upset.
Van could easily come back for these shows, he's not doing anything that weekend. Would be a cool "oh shit" surprise since most people would assume he was gone. "I had such a great time last weekend I had to come back..."

This is what I did, but instead of going back over to Foo I leave, I was very jaded with Voodoo (I am sure y'all remember) after the LOA debacle that year. I love that the last part of the post the most. You are a fucking wizard!

I'm glad I stayed, but yea, I understand you being pissed. There should never be a situation, ever, in which VIP aren't allowed into the VIP area. That year also pissed me off because the Women's bathroom fucked up so they took over 2/3rds of the mens.
I wasn't sure where would be the best place to post this outside of creating a new thread (or finding a Deerhunter thread from months ago) but Deerhunter just added a show on April 13th at the Civic. Last time they were in town they played One Eyed Jacks, which is only 400 person capacity, and the Civic is 1200. With such short notice, it's tough to imagine they'll be able to fill it in time, but hopefully they will.
Now I've got them and Kurt Vile at the Republic within four days of each other and Animal Collective in November at the Civic. Debating on getting Ray Lamontagne tickets at Champions Square.

we've got a great thread for "local-ish" shows here:

I will see you at that Kurt Vile show. I contemplated getting tickets to see Deerhunter at the Civic, but am trying to find my new house right now. I really don't think that will sell out since the OEJ show didn't sell out last time they were here. If I have the funds closer to the show I might go; April is kinda stacked already and my son's ring ceremony is the next evening so I just have to play it by ear. I am also debating the Ray LaMontagne show and am upset that Voodoo dropped the ball on Animal Collective.

Well at least they'll still be playing here in November. I've alao got tickets for DIIV at Gasa Gasa May 30th, and have been considering about four other shows. We've really picked up on the more national acts in the past year or so, especially now that we have the Civic, Orpheum, Joy, and Gasa Gasa to go along with House of Blues, Republic, One Eyed Jacks, and Tipitina's.

We have at least two shows together then!
I completely agree on how now since we have more music venue choices we are getting more acts lately. I think it has been a slow, but steady rise since Katrina damaged venues are coming back and other venues that weren't opened Pre-K are now opening (or revising what is in that venue). I love it. It was so bad the way we would get skipped for awhile there. Makes me a happy music lover.

Are you saying you're going to AnCo and Kurt or DIIV and Kurt?
