What kind of shit show? Ragefest or Weiland too high to remember lyrics pulling a Layne Staley?
Way too high to remember the lyrics and then cursing out the crowd or something. I think he was late also. My girl told me about it and she said it was horrible. I must see this. I like crushing my high school dreams.
just spent the mortgage on Van Morrison tix...he's a lock for 4/22or23 down there....I was logged in before the on sale and the lawn seats were instantly gone...they were $35, ranged from $70-$250 after that.
Looking at tour dates, for weekend one, looks like we've got Van the Man and Ben Harper more or less confirmed. Weekend two it looks like Bonnie Raitt is a lock.
More of a wish than anything, but Lukas Nelson was recently quoted saying "2016 will be a big year for Promise of the Real with Neil". Would LOVE to see Neil and these guys on the JazzFest lineup. It's been six years since he was last there, so maybe there's a chance?
COS has the generic expectations. This is the only confirmation so far. It's Jack DeJohnette along with Ravi Coltrane and Matt Garrison. I don't know any of them but it looks like a musician's music set to me.
David Gilmour - Van Morrison - Dead & Co. - Pearl Jam - ELO - Bruno Mars - Willie Nelson - Gregg Allman
Super stoked about Jack DeJohnette!! One of the great jazz drummers I haven't see yet. He played for Miles Davis during the epic Bitches Brew era. Some of my favorite drumming ever is from "Live Evil", called Funky Tonk. (One of my absolute fav Miles compositions in general)
Ravi Coltrane is the son of the great John Coltrane and Alice Coltrane. She played harp, which was pretty rare throughout the history of yazz. I got this album in a pile of junk records for $1 years back, her and Santana, shit is pretty good.

Longinus just told me that there is a late night show at the arena on Sunday 4/24/16, featuring Duran Duran with Chic opening!
Always wanted to see Duran Duran, they are some of my earliest music memories back when i got to watch MTV all the time with my babysitter in the mid 80's.
CHIC though, is fucking crucial. We saw Nile Rodgers open for Prince at Essence Fest last year and he blew us away. Disco orchestra playing hit after hit that he wrote. I just remember thinking "this guy wrote all these songs??"
Prince came out and did the guitar solo on "Let's Dance", which I didn't see because I went to piss, but I at least heard it.

Reflex-flex-flex-flex-flex Why-y-y-y-y-y Her name is Rio, and she dances in the sand
Haha. I understand the early memories, and in the same boat, I'd probably go. But I hate the 2nd invasion. That sh*t was all over the radio and tv during my college years and after. Maybe The Fixx was sort of cool, and I always liked Echo and the Bunnymen and Aztec Camera. But most of that Haircut 100, The The type stuff was wimpy. We were mostly listening to hardcore by 84, and that was the American underground at that point. \m/ I am looking forward to some night shows though. And these are pretty big names to get started with.

Nah at the nojazzfest forum. Just a random user that heard from a friend.

I am all about that Duran Duran show at the arena. I told Jeremy to get me those tickets for Christmas. My first albums (for my 7th birthday) Duran Duran and the Seven Ragged Tiger, Price Purple Rain and Michael Jackson Thriller... I NEED to see Duran Duran. And throw in CHIC with Nile Rodgers, I might die.
All these talks of Gilmour. I hope they're correct. I'm holding off on my planning for April until I see what day he is playing. Top of the bucket list is Floyd so a chance to see Gilmour trumps most anything for me next year.

Yes. That would clearly render everything else secondary for me. I only know his first album from the late 70's and of course all Pink Floyd. But I'd get a crash course in whatever else he has done solo since. That's certainly a day I would be as close to the front as possible. I caught Pink Floyd at the Superdome back in 1994, and it's an all-time Top 3 show for me.
^^ That show at the dome was supposed to be my first concert ever but my Dad fucking blew it and let my Mom take my spot after she whined last minute. He's still mad about that decision as she was a wet blanket the whole night.

There were a lot of ex-hippies there with their kids none too happy about the crowd antics. Wtf did they think a PF crowd was about? lmao. It fn ruled to see Mason, Gilmour and Wright even if it was sort of a shadow of what might have been. First concert was Peter, Paul and Mary when I was 3 or 4. Next was Queen around 14 and then Wishbone Ash at Warehouse. \m/
Only bag for me was it was The Game tour, and that was my least favorite album to that point. I loved the old stuff including Live Killers and certainly Day at the Races, News of the World and Jazz, but they pushed Crazy Little Thing Called Love way too hard and burned it out as they did with Another One Bites the Dust. Still, it was loud and raucus and was my first rock concert so to speak. Brian May and Roger Taylor stood out to me. If I remember right, Taylor was on this silver dais thing with a bunch of really bright white lights that blinded everyone when they turned em on. Solid show for a 14 year old kid for sure.
I hope JazzFest organizers are planning a tribute to Toussaint. Surely many acts will do a Toussaint cover in their set, but the festival would really miss a great opportunity to memorialize a man who meant so much to JazzFest if they didn't toss together an all-star roster for a standalone celebration of the man and his music.
He will get his due either way. He was on the poster a few years back and headlined French Quartef Fest last year in the first time in forever. On the RIP thread, I mentioned last time seeing him was Jazzfest where he brought out Buffett. He's prince if not king level in our city's music hierarchy.
Having missed him over the years at Jazzfest with all the celebrities such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Paul Simon should rule. He loves the city, and we love him back. But...
i am shielded in my armor, hiding in my room, safe within my womb. I touch no one and no one touches me....
Got my gf to see Toussaint at FQF last year, her first time seein' him. Super stoked we went to that free BBQ fest gig with the Meters Lite to see him. He looked so damn good on stage, you would never have guessed that would be his last nola show.
I'm sure there will be a major all star tribute to Toussaint this year. The Levon Helm tribute in a tent a few years ago was a lot of fun and this would surely be on at least the Gentilly stage.
Not really excited about Paul Simon but if I happen to be in the fest that day I'll go check him out. I dug his set at Hangout '11, although it was hard to get into it seeing K-9's roaming through the crowds and people getting busted every direction.
