It's funny how experiences can be so different. ..i was on the ocean side of the stage in complete bliss. I also saw him at jazzfest, '01 i think, and i don't know what capacity is in there, but it felt like one of the biggest crowds i had ever been in. Paul Simon's Concert in the Park is definitely a desert island record for me.
I'm assuming they'll have a big high ticket price tribute to Toussaint at the Saenger one night.
Yeah, that seems sort of likely with Buffett, Simon and everyone else mulling around town. Here's a note from Offbeat about Simon, and I didn't know Speara jumped from Times Picayune to The New Orleans Advocate. In other Jazz & Heritage Festival news (link below the Simon article), Belize is the Country being featured in this year's festival.
There’s a good chance that Paul Simon will perform at Jazz Fest in 2016.
Keith Spera of the New Orleans Advocate reports that the famed singer-songwriter let the information slip during last night’s Paul Simon & Friends tribute to Allen Toussaint at La Petit Theatre. The show, a benefit for Toussaint’s charity New Orleans Artists Against Hunger and Homelessness, saw Simon team up with Cyril Neville, John Boutte, Eric Falls, Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes and many more.
Evidently, the singer let the cat out of the bag between his renditions of “The Boxer” and “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes,” when he took off a long-sleeve so that the crowd could see the “I Love New Orleans” t-shirt that he was wearing beneath it. The singer then exclaimed, “I’m coming back down for Jazz Fest!”
Simon last performed at Jazz Fest in 2010, when Simon & Garfunkel headlined the Acura Stage with their first concert in six years. Simon also performed on the Acura Stage in 2006, when his set preceded a closing show from Lionel Richie (who ended up replacing Fats Domino after the New Orleans legend cancelled at the last minute).
Also Consequence of Sound shows Michael McDonald "confirmed" with evidence. I liked the old Doobie Brothers, but the McDonald years were very boring to me vs. the old Patrick Simmons fronted stuff from yesteryear. I don't have any interest in a Michael McDonald set.

Me neither, but I'll always love McDonald for his contribution to "Peg". That chorus makes me so crazy.
Probably Jabco or Longinus mentioned it, but Chic Corea and Bela Fleck are at the Orpheum Sat 4-16 (week before JF). That's kind of cool. Scientology aside, I still love some Chic. I grew up on Return to Forever, Acoustic and Electric bands

Dammit! If the rumors are to be believed, the second weekend is going to be stacked to my tastes and is now making me question whether it's worth it the 1500-mile trek to go just for the first weekend.
If anyone hears anything else for weekend one, please feel free to speculate here and convince me!
There's speculation over on the JazzFest boards that Neil and Seger will conflict and each close down a stage on the second Friday. That's another power act in my wheelhouse eliminated from week one contention. BLAST!
Thankfully, if PJ does end up playing, they'll more than likely be the first weekend. They are hotly rumored to be in the northeast during JF weekend two.
So, One Eyed Jack's scored Kamasi Washington 2nd Fri and Sat, with early and late shows both nights. Pretty huge get in terms of an actual legit jazz musician instead of funk superjams.
I've been wanting to check this guy out for a minute so it looks like I'll be doing one of the OEJ shows. Pretty early to be buying tickets right now though... especially at $35 before fees.
Will prob do the Sat late night show. Just don't want to commit to tix and then have Ween announce at Civic that weekend or something, especially since OEJ is will call only.
www.kamasiwashington.com/ Dude has a Roland Kirk vibe going on, he's pretty young too. Keepin' real Jazz music alive!
Yeah, that's on my early radar for sure. Can't be committing early this year, though. After skipping most of last year, we'll be hitting it hard 7 days.
Can't remember if anyone mentioned Ben Folds or not, but he is playing the Mobile Saenger on 4/23/16 so I would think that makes him a lock for first weekend.

A lot of big names are being thrown out there, but nothing excites me yet. Ben Harper (I've seen, is great but it's pretty straight ahead), Bonnie Rait (don't care), Bob Seger (don't care), Van Morrison (don't care), Michael McDonald (don't care), and then Paul Simon and possibly Gregg Allman would be cool. If this goes like this, it's shaping up to be the geriatric ward fest. There will be great stuff, but eh so far.

Sounds like this year is shaping uo to be a let down as far as festivals go. Id check out Paul Simon, Van Morrison or Ben Folds.
They oppose all headliners now, so it won't end up being bad. The big names so far are just old classic rock name acts that I didn't much listen to when I was coming up (outside of Greg Allman and I'm good with Paul Simon). The way it works now is that the main stage (Acura I think) has the biggest name act; the other main stage (used to be Gentilly, not sure what they call it now) has the younger headliner (Phoenix or whatever), the Congo Square Stage will have a rap or R&B act or world act, and then the Gospel tent, blues tent, jazz tent, etc. will also have their acts. As you can see from the first Friday last year, closing opposing acts were:
it's almost like you just started going to jazz fest 2 years ago
We used to sneak in every day back in the late 80's (after that I had kids as you know and was relegated to FQF). Acts were a little more random. But I think the last several years have been partnered with AEG Live, so that's why they get the big name classic rock acts (e.g. The Who, Fleetwood Mac, etc.).
