it's almost like you just started going to jazz fest 2 years ago
Jamtronica'd
/not necessarily
Last 2 years of shows I saw were Phish, Widesprayed Panic, Juvenile & Mannie Fresh, The Who, Public Enemy, Anders, George Duke & Stanley Clarke Project String Cheese, Johnny Winter, Mutemath, Toussaint, Springsteen, Dumpstaphunk, The Word and a 10 minute visit to Third World to pay my respects. Some of you mf's get too hung up on genres and shit. I'm as likely to be at a punk or metal show as I am to go see some Jamtronica. I don't even get the hate on that. But to each their own. I'm picking Lotus over almost anything because they give me what I want to see. I know you aren't much of a fan, but at the same time, I don't think you're going to discount the musicianship.
I don't care about those names either. I'll go check out any older musician for a couple of songs though, sometimes based on some delusion that "I might get into them one day" and then regret not seeing them, and that they will likely be dead by that point.
I fucking hate the song Brown Eyed Girl, but I would totally go see Van Morrison. I don't really know his music or give a shit about him, but that is a pretty big name and I'm sure he puts on a good show. I'd like to see Donovan in the same way. Listened to a couple of records, didn't get into it, but can appreciate what he's done.

i don't think they have much jamtronica at jazz fest
I know. I thought it was pretty funny. As you know, Jazzfest is so all over the map that it's hard to stick with any one type of thing. It's so all over the place. I can remember 25 years ago having days like Daniel Lanois, Woodenhead, James Rivers Movement, Neville Brothers and other random out of the country bands playing ass jawbones and shit. It was a little smaller then, but I think they still had 5 or 6 stages (vs. 11 or 12 they have now).
Honestly, the way things are shaping up it is looking like a brass pass year for me. It seems to happen that way. One year sucks and I only go one day (this year no days) and the next I want to go everyday. I am waiting to see what actually happens, but I am super excited.
If he really does play I'll probably be driving over for that. I had been considering flying to Chicago to see him. I remember you mentioning it before, but how do you know he's playing?

......for reasons you will never understand.......
I don't know if he's playing. I just know that throwing money at him would be priority #1 if I were booking for yazzfest since he's playing 3 US shows the same fucking month as this fest.
JazzFest has dropped their lineup one week after Coachella for the past two years, so I think it's reasonable to expect this year's lineup will be out Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Question -- does anyone have a time machine?
Remember when they dropped their lineup in December 2011 for the 2012 lineup?
Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, Snoop Dog, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, and Herbie Hancock with Wayne Shorter, My Morning Jacket, Gary Clark Jr., Johny Langm Buddy Guy, Mavis Staples, Dr. John, Govt Mule, Arlo Gunthrie, Boz Scaggs, Tedeschi Trucks, Snarky Puppy"
If that is true then def a step back from last year.
I would most definitely be at Neil, Van Morrison, Herbie and hopefully get a day to split Pearl Jam/MMJ.
PJ has gotta be first weekend, I believe they have a potential date lined up on the other side of the country for the second weekend. MMJ second Friday. Neil... I'm assuming second weekend? Would love to be wrong.

I am loving your scoops. I would go see a bunch on that list. Every time you get more scoops, the more I want to get a brass pass again.
I pretty much know Neil is on the second weekend, but I just want to put my message to the festival gods in writing: PLEASE O WISE ONES PUT NEIL ON THE FIRST WEEKEND!

I'd have to disagree that it's a step back. I think it's an awesome start. Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Chili Peppers, Snoop Dog, Paul Simon, Herbie & Wayne Shorter, MMJ, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Arlo Guthrie, Snarky Puppy and Mule? Fuck. I'm going to end up having to go more than I had anticipated.
Forgive the spelling, but the same guy has spilled a very juicy lineup below the headliners as well:
Elvis Castello, Bonnie Raitt, Julio Iglesias, Herbie Hancok & Wayne Shorter, Michael McDonald, Maxwell, Lauryn Hill, Galactic, Janelle Monae, Preservation Hall, Kermit Ruffins, The Isley Brother, Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, Chris Botti, Grace Potter, Brandi Carlile, Buffy Sainte Marie, Aaron Neville, Arturo Sandoval, Ellis Marsalis, Irma Thomas, CeCe Winans, Taj Mahal, Terence Blanchard, Gregory Porter, The Lone Bellow, Punch Brother, Elvin Bishop, John Hammond, Alpha Blondy, Rhiannon Giddens, Elle King, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk with Art Neville, Rebirth, Jonathan Batiste, Big Freedia, Mystikal
