Gotcha. I hated missing Plant, because I'd never seen him. But we had rail at Phish, and it was sufficiently cool to hold our interest. It was my middle kid's first time seeing them, and he was blown away. He was like, damn dad, how many bands are there where everyone can actually play and sing? I think that show was a turning point for him to react against his former affinity for DJ's, and that carried through for WSP which he absolutely loved. He's a big Trey Band fan which I know isn't for everyone. He always had jam and rock tendencies, but he now argues about EDM with all his friends. They think he's just a hater, which he isn't because he loves GRiZ, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Gramatik and stuff like that. But he will not go to a Brillz, 3LAU or generic DJ show anymore. Guess that's called growing up.
I enjoyed The Wharf show in OB, AL a little more. But we had to cut out a little early that night and unfortunately missed the encore. Damn, I'm ready for Jazzfest to release the full lineup so I can hunt for gems.
Oh shit, if you were on the rail you had a fundamentally different experience than me. We were posted up pretty far in the back and the sound wasn't clear but not particularly loud. Being up close allows you to rock out more if nothing else, I'm sure that was badass. Love the story about your kid! I like electronic music too but ultimately for music to progress we need younger kids saying "the music that is popular amongst my age group sucks, I need to search harder for something I better connect with". OK so to be fair no kid has ever uttered those exact words but you know what I'm saying.
OB show was great that year. Say what you will about The Wharf, it's loud as hell and it's got wide aisles for wide Alabama asses. I think its a great venue. Got that raucous end of the world vibe during the 46 Days that night.
For sure man, rail was awesome. As for Collin, yeah, he is from here too so you know what that means. He's been a fan of Kermit Ruffins since he was little, and Kermit will still sometimes see him in a crowd and throw him a point-out or whatever. And they grew up under me which meant they were headbanging and slamming in car seats from an early age if they weren't being subjected to Brand X or King Crimson. So they didn't come to music via MTV or friends and such. They had the foundation we laid down for them with what we jammed on and also taking them young to stuff like French Quarter Fest and whatever gave them a brass background which is required in the city. What was always funny to me was they would bitch (I'm talking 6, 7 years old) whenever they'd get stuck riding with their mom and she was in a radio friendly mood. Dad, mom made us listen to 'x' and she wouldn't turn it off.

I'm glad to hear he likes both...I never understand why people feel the need to choose...(panic & phish)
Agreed. Same thing goes for a lot of Grateful Dead fans hating Phish. There is no need to choose nor does that make anyone more or less of a legitimate fan. That would be like me having to hate Yes because I liked Genesis or something. Wtf right?

I lived in Auburn 2000-2005 and the arguments between Phish fans and Panic fans was intense. I liked both so I caught shit from all sides.
But everyone loved the Dead.
EDIT: for the record Genesis is way better than Yes.
Haha. I can't pick and choose that. Lamb Lies Down, Foxtrot and Sellin England by the Pound vs Fragile, Close to the Edge and Going for the One? I can't decide. /Peter Gabriel really needs to be paid to come play Jazzfest.
Another batch of names from the psychedelic psychoop man:
Nick Jonas, J Cole, Flo Rida, Donald Harrison Jr, The Mississippi Mass Choir, Ricky Dillard & New G, Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas, Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Revivalists, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats
Lineup this week? They dropped last year 1/12, and a Twitter reply on their site from 1/4 says "soon but not tonight." I didn't see what they were replying to, but hopefully it was a where's the lineup question. If the rumors posted here from Sgt Blotter and Carson hold up, we will have a good year.
So some dude posted "the lineup" in the bonnaroo headliner thread. It's mostly all stuff we already knew. It came from a member of flow tribe. Thought I'd share for those not on that thread. Edit: it's on the info Facebook page as well.

Facebook (which I don't have anyway) is blocked at work, and that thread was even more painful than half of them claim the Hangout thread to be. I worked my way back to page #585, but I couldn't find it. I guess I'll do a search, and will edit it in if I can find it, but can you link the post from that thread? Thanks.
Nevermind. It's even (almost?) in the same order as it was posted here. Giant troll or pretty good year?
Walk right in, just around the back. Half a mile or so across the railroad track. You can get anything you want...
He says that it is a text message from Hannah who is friends with someone from Flow Tribe. Idk. I mentioned in the headliner thread that we have been discussing all of those and that I was pretty sure that was what was happening, and he was like. Oh it is the the lineup. So. For all those interested the post is here:

This rumored lineup looks very enticing to me, but why o why, do they schedule like 2-3 headliners at the same time each day? Why make people choose? And does anybody know when schedule is released, would like to know which weekend every body is playing so I know what weekend to book a hotel. Thanks
They'll announce what day everyone is on when they drop the lineup. Same as Coachella. Just have to wait a while for the cubes/schedule. If you haven't booked hotels already, you're fucked. I blew it too by waiting too late. Cheap hotels filled earlier this year than previous years and there's no way I'm dropping $200+ a night.

There are so many headliners because Jazzfest is 7 days over 2 weeks, they have two main stages and a main hip-hop/r&b stage, they don't sell out and they have to be able to split and manage the crowd that they draw due to that fact.
Also, booking a hotel is not going to be inexpensive regardless of the weekend, like longinus stated that ship has sailed.

Is there a way around the hotel price issue? I.e. Stay in Slidell or another town on the outskirts, and drive in, I know parking close to the quarter is like 50 bucks a day, but maybe not so bad hopefully where jazz fest is?

You can park for free nearby to Jazzfest, but you'll still have to walk from between 1/2 to 1 mile usually. Ticket writers are out in force, but as long as you aren't at a fire hydrant and are 20ish feet from a corner, you should be okay. As for hotels, you might try Slidell, NO East or Algiers/Gretna or even anything west of Kenner (e.g. Laplace, Baton Rouge, etc.). Another alternative would be to get a discount casino room in Gulfport or Biloxi. Those are only a 1 hour drive, and you can probably get a good deal there. Island View just built a new beach tower, and we stayed there recently. Rooms were pretty nice for what they are. And if you join their players club (or whoever's), you probably get a pretty decent rate for a couple of days.

If you run out of options, hit me up if you need couch space for a night or two. I think some of my kids were talking about going to Tipper's Full Moon Gathering which is the first weekend, but I'm not sure who all is doing that. Either way, we have sofas and recliners and shit. We are about Canal/Carrolton. I usually just walk.

i'll just add to esteban's response that you can park in city park for free, if you don't want to risk breaking one of new orlean's many arcane parking rules. it's a 1.1 mile walk from behind the museum to the sauvage entrance.

I might take you up on that for one of the friday or saturday nights.
Tickets are $62-82 plus fees. Ouch. Gonna pass on this one, although I really do want to see the Orpheum again. Only been there once for Mars Volta Daze Between in 2005.
I still plan on hitting Mule up for a late night. Will def get a nosebleed and have ragespace. Being up front was nice but you get chumped at jambands shows by ppl crowding all up in your shit.
