Forecastle posted answers and explanations for the clues.
1.) Baauer - The clue is an emoji representation of the Harlem Shake. 2.) The Arcs - Rainbow Arc + Rock n' Roll + "Put A Flower In Your Pocket" 3.) Pokey LaFarge - Poke + Old School Americana Sounds 3.) Unknown Mortal Orchestra - "I wish that I could swim and sleep like a shark does."
Also, to continue the Ghostland discussion, Rothric and I shouldn't feel as bad about being shocked by Ghostland. I was doing my poster route today, and I talked to a manager of a BBQ place that I know goes to Bonnaroo every year. We talked about the surprise of the Sean Lennon and Les Claypool show at Bonnaroo since it wasn't on the leak. I said something similar happened with Ghostland since they weren't on the original url that got posted. His response was, "What?!?! I thought they broke up!"

Well, to be honest I truly thought they would add another headliner, I just didn't believe Ryan Adams or Death Cab were HL'S. But with that said, I'm a big fan of Death Cab For Cutie & Avett Brothers, Shakes (meh) I like some of there music. But when you look at the adds with the rest of the lineup, this is really going to be a good festival, there's something for everyone which is what a festival lineup should look like. There's some I don't care for but that's ok to. Imagine if we all liked every artist on the lineup, it would be a nightmare with all the conflicts, so we should embrace the bands we don't like & know that will only thin the crowd at the shows you want to see. Can you imagine how crowded it would be if we all loved each band.

My sister and I have been talking about going to Forecastle together and she was just notified that she won two passes by retweeting something of theirs, so looks like we are going now! Fuck yes. I've never been and I've heard great things, and the lineup this year is great! I'm so so stoked right now.

Looking back over this lineup, if there were a few names different at the top it would be a fantastic group. As it is, its just pretty good. But the undercard is stacked. Should be a great year.

Take your bicycles, and visit Haymarket Whiskey Bar. (2 blocks over from the fest) Taco truck in front was clutch at 2 am.
Good eats over in Jeffersonville, which is only a leisurely ride across the Big 4 pedestrian bridge.
Ride all up and down the riverfront. Ride in old Louisville, which is only a few minute trek (hehe) from Riverfront (waterfront) Park.
A few yrs back, when the big 3 played (Jack, Outkast, Beck), my friends and I stayed on the Indiana side, because it truly was just as easy to get back over to the Lou, when the Big 4 opened up. So damn convenient. Cheaper naturally, for the hotel. Hell, bands that were playing the fest were staying in our hotel.
I've always had a blast, as have others from these boards. HAVE FUN

I feel the same way about the top - and I'm an Avett Brothers fan. There certainly isn't a Beck or Outkast or My Morning Jacket, but they've really done a good job filling out the rest of the lineup, to the point where I think I'm going to be dealing with a bunch of conflicts.

Thanks for the tips! We were talking about bringing our bikes already and I think you just sold it for us. We are thinking of going the Airbnb route for lodging, the prices are too reasonable to pass up. We're planning the trip over the coming weeks and looking into everything going on. Have you done the late night shows? We'd like to get tickets to at least one of them.

Definitely check out at least one late night show. They always end up being so much fun. String Cheese late night at the palace is still one of my fondest memories. That night was so fucking awesome!

as said previously, there are great late nights. String Cheese a few yrs back was a highlight. I suggest being on top of it for tix on those though, for if it's a big name, they are liable, depending on the venue, to sell quick.
The Belle can be crowded. Somewhat limited space. Old steamboat.
Also, I recommend taking a poster tube with you, if you collect. API poster row is very well put together. Some of the top regional artists. Plenty to choose from. A nice, tree stocked plot sits near it, and one of the water stations. Perfect for taking a break.
The far east end of the park is also excellent if you need to "step aside" for a few ticks. It is better for the fest that they opened that area back up for laxin'. Hammocks provided by Eno are all over the place. Somebody help me out on the name of the cajun joint ran by hippies..... highly recommend a bowl of grub from that place. I purposely stop by every year.

I can attest to crowding on the Belle of Louisville. Admittedly I was drunk, but I'm 6'3" and couldn't see a damn thing at Jamie xx because of the long narrow stage floor. It was pretty disappointing.
Post by klimfactor on Jan 29, 2016 18:53:13 GMT -5
I'm 6 ft and I had the same issues at Jamie XX, that and it was so freaking hot. My group luckily found a spot right under one of the air vents. I do like the venue, though. It's neat going outside for air and seeing the river.

Picked up the new Death Cab or Cutie CD, I'm really liking it. Bands I haven't seen and look forward to seeing for the 1st time are. (19 Bands) Death Cab - Ben Harper - Brandi Carlile - Dr. Dog - Shakey Graves - White Denim - Bully - All Them Witches - Liz Vive - Anderson East - Wild Child-The arcs The Suffers - Ghostland - Pokey Lafarge - Heartless Bastards - Madison Ward & The Mama Bear - Black Pistol Fire - Future Thieves - Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Bands I've seen and look forward to seeing again, (only 8) The Avett Brothers - Alabama Shakes - Ryan Adams, although I've seen twice & both shows were less than stellar - Grouplove - Gary Clark - Blackberry Smoke Moon Taxi - Los Colognes
Large list and sure to have some conflicts, there is a few others I would checkout if one of the above aren't playing, Glass Animals - Washed out - Caveman - Nothing - Big Gigantic - Teddy Abrams & Friends
Deep lineup, really excited for this weekend in July.
I'm pretty excited for this lineup, personally a big fan of the avett brothers. Can't wait to see grouplove, death cab, and gary clark. Also I'd highly recommend checking out white denim.
Also, I went to Firefly the past 3 years and ditched it this year to go to Forecastle. Firefly over the years has been overrun with teenagers. How's Forecastle in that regard?
Post by Phyre Fest on Feb 13, 2016 23:35:38 GMT -5
Forecastle has teenagers but they arent near as annoying as other festivals, and tend to stick to the untz at the Ocean Stage. Honestly out of all the festivals I've been to Forecastle may have one of the best friendliest crowds I've experienced.

I'd concur with everything written above. I keep going back year after year because the fest really feels welcoming, and the crowd is a big part of that.

Kinda bummed I'm missing out on this one. Danny Brown would be hype as quack, but ultimately that Pitchfork lineup is too good to pass up. At least I'll get my Death Cab fix at Roo!

hoping to make it to this to see danny for the second time, first time being at roo '14. i expect this crowd will be smaller just because of the general demographic of the crowd, but i'm hoping that makes for an even more hype show with all the danny brown stans!
Can someone provide a link and password for the Forecastle March Madness page? I'm not on facebook and that is where they are sharing the information. Thanks!

I have Friday and Sunday packed, Saturday being the weakest for me. Friday - 10 Bands to see on a short day, going to be a lot of conflicts. Saturday - I have only 6 I'm interested in, none of the top 3. Sunday - 12 Bands, it looks like a full day, start to finish. Sunday is loaded!!!

Wow. Spreading it out day by day makes this lineup look a whole lot weaker than it looked. Call it being greater than the sum of its parts or whatever, but I 1000% made the right call choosing Pitchfork.
In other news, Steely Dan (a bucket act list I always seem to miss) announced a concert on that Friday in my hometown, because life is a swirling torrent of pain and misery.
I'm pretty satisfied with how the days are split up. Every day has something I was looking forward to seeing, and I got reminded this was my other chance to see Nothing and Alex G at a festival this year.

I'm feeling the same way. Even on Friday, when there are not as many acts, I'm looking forward to seeing Wild Child, Caveman, Bully, Phosphorescent (I'm a big fan), Moon Taxi, Ghostland, Grouplove and the Avetts. Hopefully they drop a strong late night or two. I really enjoyed seeing Jamie XX last year on the boat.
