I really hope Big Grams aren't there simply for the fact that they're at other fests I'm going to and aren't a must see for me anyways. Lots of good interesting names though. Congrats to BC for at least being one of the more unique lineups so far this year. Unknown Mortal Orchestra please!
And my wish list for top of the undercard: Ryan Adams Haim Chance the Rapper The Kills

Ryan Adams is first line, Haim would definitely be second line. That's why neither will show up on the map.
Adams is second line at the big fests, which makes him a headliner at BC.
With 16 on the map, that leaves the 5-7 biggest names for the Thurs AM announcement.

"The music festival known as Boston Calling has set the lineup for its spring edition. The three-day extravaganza, taking place May 27-29 at City Hall Plaza, will feature an eclectic array of acts, ranging from Australian pop sensation Sia to R&B singer Janelle Monáe. Other notables who’ve signed up to perform include English electronic duo Disclosure, Swedish singer Robyn, Aussie rocker Courtney Barnett, sister trio Haim, singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, Miike Snow, Elle King, the National’s Aaron Dessner with Irish singer Lisa Hannigan, ODESZA, and City and Colour."

A lot different lineup than what we usually see out of Boston Calling. Solid, but not sure the headliners do it for me (just not my cup of tea). If this is still pending the headliners that could change, but the way the article is worded that doesn't appear to be the case.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside
I'm so proud of them. Something to think about: none of the top acts so far are River artists. I think we might still be in for the three headliners tomorrow

yeah i'm curious unless they got like the strokes or the killers I feel like Robyn is a headliner, and Sia too honestly. but they're so similar that'd be weird.

So Robyn, Sia, Sufjan? I bet Sufjan is friday, and for Saturday and Sunday they'll go the made in america route and put and EDM act before each headliner (disclosure and odesza)

I, for one, don't think we have our headliners. As much as Disclosure and Sia could headline, I feel like BC wouldn't allow their headliners to leak and all the lineup news seems to have come from the festival itself in some capacity. That and the River saying they'd be announcing headliners gives me hope for them tying this fantastic lineup up with a nice big bow on top.
Sounds like we pretty much know the whole lineup for the main stages. Nice to read that they're going to have a third, smaller stage. Looks like they finally listened to me nag them on Twitter for ages about dumping the games area and putting up a tent there for acoustic stuff, comedy, whatever.
A few random thoughts...
Except for Sufjan, the top two lines sound more like Kiss 108 Artists than River Artists. I'm getting the distinct impression that this has less to do with some natural connection between the particular headliners and The River's format than it does with some sort of sponsorship or partnership between the broadcaster and Crashline. There are probably a few people over at The River who are wondering what the hell Sia, Robyn, and Disclosure have to do with the sort of music they usually play.
This is the first edition of Boston Calling without one artist who I'd definitely pay to see if they headlined a regular show in town. Sure, there are a bunch in the lineup who interest me to a lesser degree, but I try not to drop $30 - $130 for a one or two band show unless it's someone I really like. But that can be the fun thing about festivals; I'm going to pay to see MMJ, Wilco, Dawes, and Ryan Adams every time they come to town anyway, but I probably wouldn't be getting tickets to Haim or Vince Staples or Courtney Barnett or Sufjan Stevens, and I'll probably enjoy the hell out of their sets at Boston Calling.
They really do owe us a bunch of guys playing loud guitars in September, after this announcement. A lot of them.

I never even heard of that name until I saw it in the Globe article. Based upon the announced names, I'm guessing that Disclosure/Robyn will be a kind of "flip a coin" co-headliner, like Gambino/Lorde were, Sufjan headlining another night, and Sia a third.
By the way, the only thing that the Boston Police Department is going to like less than Vince Staples' rhymes is whatever weird things Lena Dunham and/or Shia LaBeouf are doing onstage with Sia, especially if the child from the videos is onstage, too.
Of course, seeing the set stopped and Dunham and/or LaBeouf arrested and dragged off the stage in handcuffs is worth the cost of admission.
