Vince staples Christine and the queens Charles Bradley Palehound
Nice! Was thinking of putting Charles Bradley and Palehound in my mock. Too late now! Charles Bradley, Janelle, Vince and Courtney are really solid for me
Also that's three non-white artists already on the lineup, which I think is a record for BC! (Depends if you count Nas x The Roots as one or two artists)
Pretty solid undercard. A bit of crossover with Gov. Ball already, so probably stick to a day pass this year.
I'm just hoping they can pull in some more unique stuff. I haven't seen Janelle or Bradley on any other lineups this year. Ryan Adams would probably seal the deal on a full fest pass unless they're all on the same day. I also have a weird feeling that Bon Iver is a headliner, which would be monstrous, but I'm ready to be disappointed in that regard
this will likely be my first year attending. i'm moving up to new hampshire in a month, hope the headliners are good!
Be sure to follow LiveNationNE, Bowery Boston, Boston Calling, and the individual clubs and venues on Twitter or Facebook to keep up with announcements. (Paradise Rock Club, House of Blues Boston, Orpheum Theater, TD Garden, Blue Hills Pavilion, Berklee Performance Center, Somerville Theater, Wilbur Theater, Citi Performing Arts Center, Middle East, Great Scott, Regent Theater, The Sinclair, The Lawn On D, Lizard Lounge, Toad, and I'm probably missing a few).
Radio stations The River, Radio 92.9, Radio BDC, and WZLX will let you know about their free shows.
Music blogs: Vanyaland, Do617, Boston TME, Allston Pudding, and Bradley's Almanac are good local show info follows, too.
There's also a topic here on miscellaneous free shows and street fairs in the Boston area. There's a ton of free action, both local and national acts, between May - October.
Just checked, and Vince Staples is doing Sasquatch, too. So, that's at least one act which will be racking up frequent flyer miles that weekend.
Yeah I'm pretty confident about the crossover I suggested a couple days ago, other than us not getting M83. Replaced them with Grimes. Could also see Leon Bridges and Big Grams coming over, but I'd rather they not.

Where in NH will you be? There's also a decent local scene in Portland, ME, with a couple venues that bigger touring acts will play. And Portsmouth, NH has one of my all time favorite venues in the Music Hall

If you'll be near Portsmouth, NH, check out The Friendly Toast for great breakfast and non-breakfast foods. They do some wild combinations of things, and their locations are decked out with off the wall 50's - 70's memorabilia.
They've also got a Cambridge, MA location and are opening in the Back Bay tomorrow.

Pretty much always go there before a Music Hall concert! Love that place

most likely manchester for the time being... we're on the waiting list for a townhouse in portsmouth, but seems unlikely!
Janelle Monae Vince Staples Charles Bradley and the Extraordinaires Christine and the Queens Elle King The Vaccines Lisa Hannigan and Aaron Dessner Palehound
Just checked last 20 songs on The River, and they include The Strokes, Cold War Kids, and Passion Pit. Two of those three could easily be headliners, with the third lower on the bill.
I suspect that they'll be playing all of the soon-to-be announced headliners more than usual today.

Where did you see the River say "headliners"? I only saw their facebook posts which said "artists." Either way, I'm expecting The Strokes and Cold War Kids. Passion Pit have headlined before, but I feel like/hope that terrible third album won't be enough to keep them at that level. Especially when they're not touring.

This was their second tweet yesterday about the announcement:
Tune in Thursday @ 8:30a 2 hear River artists headlining boston_Calling in May! We're doing a half-hour special!
And in the last 20 songs, The River played Weezer, James Bay, Franz Ferdinand, and Kaleo.
Yeah I could see all of those being at BC. None particularly excite me, but they're all fine. And once again, none who are really at other festivals this year other than Kaleo.
There isn't a photo for confirmation, but someone tweeted this within the last two hours:
Kirsten Cooper @klcoop0721 2h2 hours ago
boston _Calling Fun Way to announce some of the spring lineup in advance #bostoncalling @thefrontbottoms @lizzo @courtneymelba and @battles
So, if it's legit, the currently known lineup is...
Janelle Monae Vince Staples Courtney Barnett Battles Lizzo The Front Bottoms Charles Bradley and the Extraordinaires Christine and the Queens Elle King The Vaccines Lisa Hannigan and Aaron Dessner Palehound
It's becoming very clear that the top two lines aren't on the map, with only the fourth piece still left to drop.
Last Edit: Jan 13, 2016 17:35:33 GMT -5 by tw12 - Back to Top
If that's true, this will probably their most eclectic line up yet! Battles were awesome at the Paradise last year.
I'm thinking that if there are a lot of "River Artists" in the top two lines, that may mean a lot of white guys with guitars playing some sort of rock & roll, which is why we're seeing a lot of stylistic, gender, and racial diversity in the undercard.
Technically, you're not a River Artist unless you've been romantically linked to Winona Ryder, Scarlett Johansson, or Mandy Moore at some point within the last 20 years. (All River Artists have some connection to Taylor Swift, romantic or otherwise, although not all musicians with connections to Taylor Swift are River Artists.)
OK, there are multiples of the map pieces floating around. Someone just tweeted a very different photo of the original map piece which showed up on social media yesterday. Hopefully, we get confirmation on #3 and get #4 very soon.
If there's just one more map piece to be revealed, and it won't include the top two lines, here's my educated guess for the four listed acts:
Speedy Ortiz PVRIS Big Grams Chris Stapleton
I'm not saying there isn't a certain wishlist element to my educated guess. Three rap/hip hop acts in one edition of Boston Calling would be very cool, Chris Stapleton would be holding down the Isbell/Simpson "quality country artist" slot, and I keep missing Speedy Ortiz for one reason or another every time they're in town.
