None of these developments are really new, honestly. The cigarettes thing is new, but that's a welcome change. There's not much worse than people who light up a cigarette right next to you and don't give a shit whose respiratory systems are around
THIS. I had a lot to complain about the first time I went to Boston Calling but the worst part of the experience was by far the belligerent teenager behind me leading up to and throughout most of the Brand New set. This guy went through about 10 cigarettes in the hour... two of which were put out because they came in contact with me... I'm sure they hit other people too. The guy also spilled beer on me and never apologized for anything (I didn't mind the beer so much because it was so hot). Despite actually liking a few lineups, I haven't been back to Boston Calling since because of the demographics and the poor setup.
I for one am extremely excited with the changes being made leading up to this new installment. I love the idea of having more space, clean air, and corralling the beer drinkers to specific sections (If that happens). Boston Calling is winning me back so far.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Fuck beer prisons! I will never support those. I'll risk a little spilled beer over having to chug it so i dont miss a set. I'm fine with no cigs, but that does make it quite a bit harder to consume trees.
Beer prisons are the absolute worst. They were especially bad at Boston Calling when they had them because they were small and not in good positioning to hear the stages.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I just spent forever comparing that image to images of the complex on Google hoping I could find another explanation for that closed off section, but I can't.. however, it's weird that the artist didn't depict anyone in there if it is a beer prison.

Do you not drink or do you just prefer inconvenience?
I don't drink a lot at festivals, and if I do it's liquor I sneak in.
Fair point...last year I had a cooler about 5 minutes from the fest and I was able to bring in a water bottle full of whatever I wanted since they weren't making you dump them out!

I have boobs, I can hide an entire bottle in my bra if I want to.

My brothers and I have been able to sneak in plenty of liquor every year, no boobs necessary

Let me preface this by saying I can hold a respectable amount of booze in my bra as well. I remember preparing to head into Gentlemen of the Road in 2012 with Katy. We had probably about 10-12 nips to hide. I was about to hide nip 2 or 3 or so, when Katy had already hidden the rest. No only quantity, but speed!

HA I had forgotten about this! That was such a fun trip.
My gf and I are looking to make the trip for this, I saw last year that there were only the 3 acts on Friday. Are we thinking that's definitely not going to be the case this year? I didn't look to see how many played last year vs. this year.

It'll definitely be more. 45 total artists this year v. 23 past years. It won't be a full day on Friday, but gates are opening at 2:30 so there'll be at least a handful of acts

Sorry if this has been addressed previously, but I was having a hard time finding exact info on day passes. The only thing I saw was this in the Globe:
"Information about single-day passes will emerge as the day-to-day lineup schedule is announced."
I assume this means they'll be available, but has anybody heard anything to confirm that, at all?
Edit: Disregard, festival got back to me. Said if they do single day passes it will be announced closer to the date.
Me and the gf are coming up from Florida, I know this is the first year @ the new location but just wanted to get some insight from any locals...
We're staying at an Airbnb in Somerville that according to Google Maps is a ~15 min drive to the venue, and like 8-10 minutes from Harvard's campus. We're debating whether we should just rely on Uber/Train/Bus/Walking or rent a car.
From what I understand the parking will be pretty limited but we're more worried about relying on Uber to get home & being out of luck at the end of each night when the surcharges are insane & we're in an area we don't know.
Anyone have any advice?

I guess I'll be the third to say it, definitely don't rent a car. Not only do you not need one, but it would in all likelyhood make things more difficult than going without.
