This schedule change allows me to see slightly less Francis & The Lights, slightly more Car Seat Headrest, and part of Chance
y'all are a bunch of complainers
I'm not a big fan of partial sets, and the way the change affects the earlier sets is a bummer. But also for any festival to book Bon Iver and Sigur Ros and have them conflict at all is fucked up.
The art of festival scheduling involves have a good feel for when two or more acts are likely to appeal to the same people and not scheduling them to perform at the same time. I wouldn't mind seeing both Danny Brown and Brandi Carlile on Saturday, but I understand completely why they're on at the same time.
Bon Iver >< Sigur Ros overlap, on the other hand, would have been better avoided.
The more I think about this lineup, the more I'm leaning towards doing it buffet style -- catching three songs at the blue stage, four songs at red/green, back to blue for a few songs, etc. As long as the walk doesn't take so long that I spend as much time in transit as I do hearing music, it could be doable.
Really, the only two acts I feel compelled to hear in their entirety are Weezer and Frightened Rabbit.
To quote someone who should have played Boston Calling by now, "...pile on those mashed potatoes and an extra chicken wing. I'm having a little bit of everything."
It's not fucked up. It's just how festivals work. There's no way to have all three of Bon Iver, Chance and Sigur Ros play in the same 3 hour window and have no overlaps. There's no way to have them play that doesn't involve two full overlaps or three partial overlaps. One of those two options creates a lot more pissed off people than the other.
And I mean really, think about it for a minute. What exactly were you expecting them to do, given the bookings? Most people will be seeing Bon Iver and then Chance. This actually helps Sigur Ros get a few more people than they would have otherwise, because let's be honest, they are in the position they are because they are followed in something approaching a cultish manner.
This schedule tweak is better for the artists and for the fans, with the exception of the very small percentage who planned on going Bon Iver -> Sigur Ros, who probably exist only on music forums and select dormitories at Emerson College.
I think you are seriously underestimating the amount of people who could not care less about Chance the Rapper. And last time Sigur Ros was in Boston, they played the Agganis Arena which is massive.
Bon Iver and Sigur Ros at the same festival, let alone the same day, was an excellent reason for people outside the area to make Boston Calling into a destination festival (alongside the rest of the lineup). No other festival this year is doing this, whereas you can see that jerkoff Chance at a million other places.

Damn wasn't aware Chance was at "jerkoff" level
So is Maynard from Tool.
But seriously, for all y'all seeing Chance, I hope you enjoy it more than when I saw him in fall 2014 in Rhode Island. Good performer, yes, but boring songs with no flow in the setlist.

I see where you're coming from. While I think Acid Rap is his best record, 2014 Chance seemed to suffer the same same problem a lot of more introspective rappers do where their shows don't always reflect that side of them. I haven't seen him since Coloring Book came out, but from everything I've heard/watched online it seems like he's upped the concept and dynamic of his show significantly

Eh, I saw him at the Sinclair in 2015 and thought he was great. His show at the Meadows was pretty entertaining too though I feel you both about his set list flow. I thought his show was a bit better before he got so conceptual with Coloring Book.

Does anyone have any advice for a 12x12 bag that they're talking about on the Boston Calling website? I've always brought a backpack with me to festivals and never had a problem and I'd like something to keep my stuff in. Any bag suggestions (preferably on Amazon) would be incredibly helpful.

I imagine any of those nylon drawstring gym bags would be fine.

You would think, but all the ones I've found are 18x14. I doubt they'll have rulers out to measure bags but I don't want to find out the hard way that they're being super strict about them.

Yeah I think you'd definitely be fine with one of those, whatever the dimensions. They can check those easily and they don't take up space, which is really what they're concerned with

Agreed, I had a drawstring bag last year that was over 12 x 12, and it was let in. I even tweeted BC beforehand to confirm (with a picture) and they replied that it was cool.

So I've never been to Boston. Anyone have any tips? Food? Beer? Fun?
Going on Thursday, my girl friend wants to go to the aquarium, so we'll probably do that early on. Any good brunch places we could go to prior to that? Any good craft beer places (that may have Trillium on tap?)

best places to eat if you only have a few days?
etc thanks
Friendly Toast for brunch, either Back Bay or Cambridge.
Trillium has a location in Boston nearish the waterfront. However, I've been told the one in Canton (15 miles south) is better. I don't recall ever seeing it on draft outside of their taprooms.

If it's worthy enough, it's probably on that list there
Trillium Boston doesn't have a taproom, only Canton does. It's still the best bet for drinking it though, just buy a few cans and find somewhere to drink them discreetly. Otherwise you can call the places on their website listed as draft accounts to see if they actually have any on tap because their distribution is sparse. Row 34 is usually a good bet.

I have only been to the one in Canton
Yea the one in Boston is just a tiny counter where you can get cans and growlers to go. They are opening a new full service brew pub in Boston sometime late this year or early 2018. They will also have a beer garden on the greenway starting sometime in June.
After that May I Have this Dance video, the choice has been made. I'm sorry Sigur Ros, but this is how it has to be. If we get both that and the Friends collab, I can die happy.
I just plugged my schedule for the fest into my Google calendar. I think I'm only going to end up seeing 4 things at the Blue stage. Maybe 5 if I can get there on Sunday earlier than I currently expect to.

Confused on why you think the collab will happen at Chance's set instead of Francis' set since after all they are Francis' songs and he will definitely perform them.

Friends is also Francis's song and when he and Justin Vernon do it together it's almost always at the Bon Iver set (only exception I can think of is Eaux Claires). Could very well be the other way around with Chance. I just assume the smaller artist will come out for the bigger one. Doesn't matter to me though. I'll be at all 3 sets.
