How were the lines last night to get in? Friday was terrible so we came early yesterday and walked right in. Wondering if amyone got in later with any issue? Haven't seen people bitching too much so I'm hoping it'll be good. Trying to grab food in the square first and then lose my mind for Tool

15 minutes or so at 230 or 3 yesterday
5 minutes at the same time today
Okay thanks. Seems like it's much better than Friday!
Even though the bros are gone, the ones that stayed now have nothing to do and are worse than Friday and Saturday. Couple of them ruined Mitski for me.
It's interesting to see how this festival has played out. It seems like they didn't have the capital to put on this big of a festival in terms of how much they spent on their lineup, which led them to cut corners and try to max out their capacity. Then once the initial lineup wasn't selling, they made their schedule to maximize day by day sales. It seems to have worked, but if I saw the schedule before I bought a ticket, I would've probably just Bought a day pass for Friday. To me, Friday was conflict city, Saturday had a couple conflicts, and today I have maybe 2 acts I would pay money to see. It feels like they kinda screwed over the people who bought three day passes.
I nearly died at Cage. Did anybody else watch that kid rush the stage and nearly kill himself trying to jump into the audience? Nuttiest crowd I've ever been a part of.

Final thoughts Blue Stage rocks. I wish they had all the stages like that. Maybe move the red to where those arches are, and shift the entrance. Tool was cool, but after an hour or so I was good. Maybe I'll stay for the whole set at Gov Ball Next Weekend. Weezer was deplorable. Rivers was reading lyrics from in front of him the whole time, and the playing was sloppy at best. Wolf Parade, Mondo Cozmo, Frightened Rabbit were all outstanding.
Set Rankings for Today. 1) Wolf Parade 2) Mondo Cosmo 3)Frightened Rabbit 4)Mitski 5)Tool 6)Hiss Golden Messinger 7)Buffalo Tom 8)Weezer

Hotelier. Nicely done lads. They can open every day of this thing for all I care. Anti shoutout to the dick security guard who told the mosh pit if they did it again we would all get tossed. Enjoyed his dumb look during PUP
PUP. I regret every PUP should I could have gone to but didn't. That was in error. Good times
Converge. Didn't like but wanted to keep moshing
Frightened rabbits were fine
Piebald were fine
Cage was the best I have seen them in a while. Shockingly good looking crowd for Cage
Tool. I wanted to like it and be swept away. Talented but just didn't do it for me. The visuals freak me out

Thought Weezer was lots of fun. Been a fan since middle school though and I have a lot of nostalgia there, so this being my first time seeing them, I just had a blast singing along and enjoying myself. Pup was my other highlight of the day.
Tried to give Tool a chance, but it wasn't really my thing. Stayed for the whole set though. Visuals were kinda cool.
Overall it was a fun weekend.
Highlights: Bon Iver, Sigur Rós, The xx, Chance, Pup, Weezer, Mumford, Kevin Morby, and Flatbush Zombies.

Converge and Wolf Parade were fantastic. Being able to catch the end of Tig's set was icing on the cake. Thought Weezer were alright. It always nice to hear the hits but they looked tired and disinterested. Tool aren't my thing, looks like I'll be leaving Gov Ball early next week too.
Long story short, I love the new location. It has its problems, but it's already a much better festival than it was before.

I'm a total music nerd. I literally teach drum lessons and run a music store for a living, so for me, watching Danny Carey live tonight was totally unreal. Tool is a machine. They don't miss a freaking beat and it's some of the most intense music, musically speaking. I'm in awe of how good it was. Not for everyone. My GF did not have a great time tonight. I had a blast though. Unreal how tight they are.
Tool > Converge >> Flatbush Zombies > Run the Jewels (I probably should have gone to Wolf Parade but I didn't want to be sad) >> Weezer > Cage the Elephant
Didn't catch enough of Mitski or Frightened Rabbit to adequately rank, though I have seen Mitski before and love her

Only bummer with Weezer was why the hell did Rivers think covering Hey Ya and Mike Posner was better than playing El Scorcho? A little bummed about that. But still had fun.

Hahaha wow I've never heard of security actually trying to stop a mosh pit. Like what are you supposed to do during a band like Pup?

if you think about it, Hey Ya is a pretty on brand cover for them
it's a perfect pop song that's very depressing if you actually listen to the lyrics

Yea to be honest, I enjoyed the cover, I just really wanted El Scorcho hahaha.
Echoing some other people but talking was a big problem today. I'm fine with you enjoying the fest your own way, but realize that most people are there to listen to music, and if they can barely hear that music you need to shut up or move.
Wholeheartedly agree. I kept moving during Weezer's set, trying in vain to find a spot where people weren't talking.
Here's the thing...
You never know what the song being played at that moment might mean to someone standing near you at a show. Maybe it was what soundtracked the moment they lost their virginity, maybe that song helped someone grieve the passing of a family member, it could have been the first dance at a wedding, a reminder of the girl or guy that got away, or the song that makes someone feel a little bit less alone. And you're talking over it. Quack you, you piece of shiz.
I did it complete buffet style from 2 - 6 today, caught anywhere from two to four songs (Sumney, Russ, Brown, Carlile, T&S) to whole set or very close to it (Strand of Oaks, Stizz).
Having slept for only around five hours last night, exhaustion crept up and I couldn't make it to Rateliff.
Just going to get there when I get there tomorrow, and stick to the Blue stage for Weezer and FRabbit and whomever else I happen to catch there. Definitely not staying for Tool. Some mild curiosity with them, but not enough to push myself to the bitter end.
It seemed a lot more crowded today, given the lines for portolets at the clusters which were barely touched on Friday, and the heavy pedestrian traffic on the far access road.
You finally get a festival with multiple stages in your town and then you leave early on all days?
Damn son.
Considering that I don't like Mumford, The xx, or The 1975, I didn't see the point in staying until the bitter end. The only Mumford song I like is the one where Dylan, Costello, and Goldsmith helped him write it. (Had The New Basement Tapes performed, I definitely would have stayed for that...considering that I've seen three of the five band members perform a total of around 56 times combined, give or take.)
Actually, I did stay later than I anticipated today and caught most of Tool (first hour, anyway).
Caught full sets from Frightened Rabbit and Weezer today, a lot of Tool, and 1 - 5 songs each from Buffalo Tom, Piebald, Run The Jewels, Wolf Parade, and Cage The Elephant.
I caught 21 musical acts this weekend, including 5 full sets, and the full set of a "name" comedy headliner, so I definitely got my money's worth. I definitely took advantage of the multiple stage format to check out a lot of things.
Day 2 thoughts, the proximity of the red and green stages is starting to get to me. It's quite difficult to move after 4:00 in that area, there's just too many people. That being said, a friend who works for the festival shared with me that they capped the fest this year at 35k since it was the first year on the new grounds. Next year supposedly they aim to at least DOUBLE the capacity in the same space, which seems horrifying to me.
Hopefully, by "same space," your friend meant Harvard Athletic Complex, which includes a lot of space which wasn't being used this time around. There is literally no way they could double the number of attendees without increasing the acreage used. The entire complex is close to 90 acres and they used 18 of them, so there's room to grow.
Even if they didn't increase the number of stages but added another 15 acres for additional portolets, food vendors, and pedestrian walkways, that would help them accommodate larger crowds.
I know that a lot of you have done other big festivals, and I'm really curious if other festivals with similar lineups are that crowded with endless food lines, portolet waits, and everything else we encountered. Is the new, supersized Boston Calling an outlier, or is this similar to the experience at, say, Governors Ball?
BTW, I'll be the old dude in the Elvis Costello tour shirt, beige khaki shorts, and Dawes "We're All Gonna Die" cap. I'll likely be in "Hey, kids, get off my lawn" mode when you see me, shushing some loud talkers or going for my tenth Dunkin' Donuts or KIND free sample of the day.
As soon as I walked out of my door and felt the chill in the air, I went back inside and grabbed a hoodie, so it's unlikely you saw me in that EC tour shirt.
