Does your friend know that band signed Tool posters cost $150 each? Tell him that his buddies can go fuck themselves if they're not at the fest and pay flipper prices. $350+
Edition size depends on the show, but typically 400 or 500. Not sure how many are band signed, but hundreds of people will be standing in line hoping to get a band signed one.
Fuck you. I teared up during Mutemath's set when Paul brought his daughter out to play in honor of his late grandfather whom he brought it at their first Voodoo.
I have to throw it up for Reignwolf. I didn't anticipate that would be the best show, but damn. Nice crowd there and an excellent show there. Witches was pretty great too. Foals was pretty good and Porter as well. Ill get today's schedule up later. I plan on wearing my costume today.
Fn right. Today will rule. Early day 1 thoughts are that the setup is outstanding. The way they alternated the stages and the way they were positioned allowed you to get to any set under 5 minutes.
Word for the day was, "Bar." Haha. There were some lines but you could just walk the 2 minutes to the off stage bar with no lines. Easy enough. I'm glad I switched mostly back to beer as the day started with whiskey and vodka. I got some other random shots people gave me. It still feels like Day 3 instead of 2.
Got in early and grabbed a tshirt and some smoked mushroom, okra and eggplant gumbo from Festivus Gournet. That was pretty good. I walked over and watched some of Bear Hands. They were okay. I found the music alternated between simple generic indie to some decent jams. Then I went and sat in the shade for the Seratones. They will probably go somewhere down the road, but I wish the singer screamed a little less. That sounds awkward. I was supposed to go to the first 20 minutes of Lunice then Mutemath, but I ended up starting with Mutemath, and by the time I walked over to Lunice, the set was done. So I went and caught the end of Mutemath. It was a quality afternoon set. We caught a few minutes of Mayer Hawthorne from the back before Foals. Foals was solid. Everyone has been raving about recent shows. And while I wasn't blown away, set was still pretty fun. There's no gimmickry with what they do, and I appreciate that. We caught a few minutes of Tort Lanez and Wild Belle before What So Not. He sounded great, but I could only catch half because of the All Them Witches mini-set. That shit was great, and I can't wait for today's set. I ran into Jabco at that and saw Sgt Blotter, but I couldn't quite get through the crowd to where he was at. Look for the grandmother in a dress near the front on the livestream today. I wanted to go watch some of G-Easy, but my oldest banned me from going and drug me to Porter. I could hear some of G-Easy from behind the trees, and it sounded good for me. I think he came out as The Joker. The paper said he brought out Soul Rebels. Porter was great, and I stayed for most of that set before hitting Reignwolf. It's a far cry from when I first saw him at Voodoo back in like 2012 with 10 or 15 people. I think there were a couple thousand people, and that show fucking rocked start to finish. I could have let the day end there and been satisfied but I decided to go see Carnage after about 5 minutes of The Weeknd from the back. People said The Weeknd's set was great, but I don't really know. Carnage was about what I expected. There were some good parts, some fuck ups and some generic DJ shit. It was nothing special.
Today's plan:
The Pretty Reckless All Them Witches Reignwolf Miniset Bully Claypool/Lennon Cage the Elephant Ghost Tool
This could be one of those days that gets talked about for another 10-15 years as one of the best festival rock days. I'm pretty excited though stiff and sore. Haha. See y'all there and on tv. \m/
saw most of the live stream last night. I like Bear Hands but damn that was a let down, so boring and no energy. Mutemath was fantastic as usual, very nice touch when he brought his daughter out, she outperformed both Bearhands and G easy if you ask me. Speaking of g easy holy shit what a sorry excuse for music he is, might have been the worst thing I ever watched, even worse then the few mins of his Lolla set I saw. Mayer Hawthorne looked like a blast, nice covers and his band was really tight. Lastly Foals tore that motha down, love that they closed with What Went Down that's my fav track they were going ape shit!
Reignwolf was a piece of work. That's probably the kindest thing the soundcrew/Voodoo fest had to say about what he threw out there. I'm not going to pretend to know what the guy is all about since this is my first experience with him and only having seen his name a couple times elsewhere. But I do know now he was extremely passionate and dedicated to giving the crowd as unique of a rock show as he could give the ones lucky enough to show up to his stage.
And when I say 'His Stage', I mean he owned that location like he just moved in, throwing around instruments and rearranging cables as he mauls through his set. At one point he decided to "get closer to" us, and taking his guitar, mic, and personal kickdrum into the crowd, giving each item to a spectator as he awkwardly repositioned himself onto the railing - 'I'm gonna need you to hold me up'!! The main sound guy did not look like he was happy with the antics, as he continuously had to come out and work around all of the Reignwolf's random rearrangements.
as the show winded down, it only got worse. Now he's recruited his band members to join the chaos, by pulling the drummer's drumkit out from under him and bringing it to the front of the stage. A good five minutes of these three guys pulling up cables and shuffling around equipment trying to keep some sort of rhythm all the while.
I should mention that the countdown clock is abbbooouut 9:44. They're supposed to be off the stage in one minute. Well, I think they're too in the zone to really notice at this point. But then I think.. No, these guys know exactly what they're doing. I felt like this was Reignwolf doing a rock protest. You have The Weeknd and Carnage on after me? Where's the rock and roll? Screw this, we're not letting people go home early.
When it was 9:46, the sound crew guy stared on PISS as these obnoxious kids were still playing like they're in their mom's garage. HEY THE WEEKND IS WAITING
The little girl crashed out before reignwolf. We took her home afterwards. We're doing a later start today to ensure we dit miss tool for my birthday. I'll be a birthday butterfly.
Shooting for All Them Witches, all be there for Nothing but Thieves (might go see my blog reienwolf on the Toyota den first) Bully Clayoool Lennon delirium Shakey Graves Cage Tool

Foals was my favorite set of the day. Forgot how good they are live. A little post punky, a little funky, and little rocky, a little gloomy, all things I dig.
All Them Witches mini set was dope. Wild Belle was pretty good. Porter was pretty good. Reignwolf was rocking pretty hard.
The Weeknd was a legit live performer. I'm not a big fan but the dude is a headliner no doubt. Minimalistic but very cool and effective stage setup, solid performance so far as I could tell given my rudimentary knowledge of his catalog.
Voodoo Fest itself is the Friday winner. Easy entrance, tons of bathrooms, good food, cashless wristband payments worked flawlessly, new stage setup was great (barring the big tree blocking one side of the mainstage). And the sound at all the stages was loud as hell and reasonably clear. Minimal le plur soundbleed.
I'm seriously impressed. Night and day difference from 2014.

I told a couple friends I'm really impressed with this year. Since Evelyn likes going we are about two - three years from being ale to go loa, but if this continues and improves upon itself I would definitely go back.
That tree is in a bad spot and it blocks traffic from getting in front the right side. I might setup there for cage and stay there for tool.
Edit: if you see me say hi. I don't see anyone. I have serious blinders.

I'll be looking out for everyone at all them witches and bully. Ran into Longinus but I always do. Good seeing him and sarge as always.
Good idea on getting in front of the tree for tool, I might try that.
Happy Birthday VC. I will look for you today. One bonus of Voodoo over many other outdoor fests is the shade. There were only a few clouds yesterday, and there really won't be many today or tomorrow either. So having Live Oak trees everywhere with their large canopies allows you to duck out of the sun at any stage.
Anyone visiting the city have an after Voodoo story or two to share?
Also, happy birthday VieuxCareen!
ANDDD I bought a wristband off a friend for Sunday because she has to work so I'll be at least going to one day of the fest! As long as I can squeeze my hand into it. The other five friends are going to help do whatever possible so that all of us have a wristband that will fit. They all were able to remove theirs and put them back on without issue
I really have to hand it to Voodoo, they probably have the best layout and all around operation of any fest I've been to. At least based off of day 1. Everything is easy to find, well located and abundant. You guys are more used to it than I am, but the food options are fucking killer. The hardest decision of the day was figuring out what to eat. My only negative experience yesterday was finding an Uber afterward. I think they did the best they could, but the demand was just too high I guess. Hoping for better luck tonight.
Reignwolf was easily my favorite show of the day. Tore that fucking stage to the ground, even after they shut off the sound haha. Foals was Foals, always awesome, and Mutemath put on a great show. My first time seeing them. I thought The Weeknd put on a really good show, even though his music just isn't my thing. That crazy offset triangle light setup that he has is insane though. Very unique.
Anyway... have a killer day 2 everyone. We're off to see the chick from Gossip Girl!
In the Toyota Den, between Reignwolf and Shakey Graves, I overheard a photographer and a videographer mention something about an Arcade Fire show tonight somewhere and praising how they're barring anyone from bringing in any cameras or cellphones.
Aw shit. I didn't get that. One of our friends ran into and hung out with Pretty Lights last night, not sure where though. Yesterday was beyond fantastic. I mean Claypool/Lennon busting out King Crimson and Pink Floyd? That was sick. Cage was great. Tool was great All them Witches was good. The Pretty Reckless was way better than I thought they'd be. Shit. This is a good Voodoo. Only sound issue was early with TPR. But overall, they are doing a great job. I'm pretty happy.
