Damn. Feels like a Wakarusa Day 5. Ugh. Feet and back are in pain. Tool had just started and they were over. Crying. I was drunk as fuck though and have 500 new laugh lines from interacting with everyone and acting a fool in my grandma costume. I was continually groped and violated. Not sure when I'm heading over today but tentative plans are Pres Hall, Bob Moses, Lookas, Anderson.Paak, Puscifer, Snails/Band of Horses, Gramatik,STS9 and Arcade Fire.
I forgot to mention this. Daus House on Moss (the bayou rd) is only charging $10 for parking. Its a 10-15 min walk to the grounds. Super close. Edit: bob moses Puscifer Band of horses Beats antique Arcade fire.

Repeating myself, but I couldn't be more pleased with how well the festival was run this year. True there is a big fucking tree to the right of the main stage, but it made it really easy for us to get a decent spot for Tool, with only partial blockage of the view of the stage.
Random observations:
-Parking at Cabrini was great, the dads running it were pros. Iced down cokes and diet cokes and water included in parking, as well as burgers and sausages and whatnot they were grilling. And the money goes to the kids. We crunched the numbers and I think they are pulling down $2,000/day. Hell of a school fundraiser.
-Maybe one more water station? That's a tiny complaint though.
-Bathrooms were A+. Pee walls for dudes, flushable toilets with interior lighting for the ladies. I never stood in line for a bathroom all weekend.
-A+ sound at every stage. I could stand far back or up close, always loud and relatively clear.
-Sun was a bit brutal at 2:30 in the afternoon, but calmed down by the time 4:30 sets started.
-I think I'm done seeing Tool until they have some new material. I enjoyed Saturday's set but ended up catching some of Die Antwoord in the middle.
-The new Le Plur setup is fantastic. I caught some minimal soundbleed at the main stage when standing towards the back, but it was light years better than 2014's bass constantly beating up your body.
-Festival highlights in no particular order were Excision, Ghost, STS9, Claypool/Lennon, The Weeknd.
-Bully ended their set 20 minutes early. Still a good show.
EDIT: Also, this was our first festival using the LayBag™. Man this thing is great. You look like an idiot running to catch the wind and fill it up, but once it was full two people could sit on it with two other people sitting on a blanket on the ground using it as a back rest. Only "downside" is every ten minutes somebody approaches you to ask where you got it, how much it was, and is it comfortable.
I just failed at breaking off my over 21 paper wristbands. Uh.
Top 10 later, but Sunday was great. My brother-in-law hooked up that VIP, so we watched the 4th Quarter Saints game in the lounge while Preservation Hall was playing in the background. After the game, we went and watched Bob Moses. They are always good and didn't disappoint. I ran into fka Phi at that. Next up was a high energy Anderson.Paak and the Free Nationals set. This was the best I have seen them. Next was over to Puscifer. Shit was fantastic. Next up was the second half of Snails. He was going hard as usual. We stuck around to watch the beginning of Gramatik. That was going to be a great set, but I wasn't going to miss STS9. Their set ruled. Finally we went to watch Arcade Fire. It was my first time seeing them live. They are fn good. Voodoo was great though admittedly the nights are blurry. I'm doing VIP going forward. There wasn't as much room maybe at the stages but access to no line bars was clutch. More later.
I only saw one dude get rolled out on a stretcher and didn't see any fights or arrests but you have to figure there are minimal issues. There were lots of blasted people, me included, but it's Voodoo. And people drink and party there. I guess I can do a Top 10 now though I could be under rating both Tool and Arcade Fire because those sets are hazy. I'll try to watch most of the sets again on YouTube over the next couple of months.
1. Claypool/Lennon Delirium - As noted in the daily recap, they covered In the Court of the Crimson King and Astronomy Domine(sp?)
2. Puscifer - Sound and show were both excellent for this
3. Reignwolf - that's how you do fucking rock and roll
4. Arcade Fire - Great show, could be higher
5. Tool - same
6. Cage the Elephant
7. Anderson.Paak and the Free Nationals
8. STS9 - I ran into Alana at the VIP lounge and told her what's up. I asked about the Hula show, and she said it was great
9. The Pretty Reckless
10. All them Witches mini set (regular set was good too, but the mini set was excellent.
Edit. Live stream today replays are Foals, Claypool/Lennon Beats Antique and Arcade Fire. This should help while I'm licking those wounds.

First Voodoo and man this fest was just run beautifully. Beats Antique was awesome last night. I loved how they let Arcade Fire play for an extra 30 minutes to have everyone come together at the end (small crowd while chainsmokers were playing but right after it was huge) The dance party with the Pope, Trump, Hilary all on stage was great and then the giant confetti shower. First time seeing them and was really impressed. Their sound translates really well live and the songs just feel BIG. Hopefully Voodoo delivers a solid lineup next year because the set up is great.

Nice. Beats is coming up on the stream in 5 minutes. I'm currently watching the replay of Claypool/Lennon and validating why I had this Top 1. MF. Talked to the kids about Top sets and got Tool, Claypool/Lennon from one, Gramatik Tool and Tribe from another and "I don't remember much of Tool, like you." :covri:
Here's a shot of me someone took. Lmfao. And that's all I did all fn day Saturday was laugh all day and all night. I will tip the hat to cmack for the Harumbe in Heaven costume yesterday.
First year going to Voodoo and it was fantastic. Porter live set was absolutely phenomenal!!! Tool was mind blowing again for my second time seeing them, watched some dude get his arm dislocated in a pit. So happy they played Third Eye and 46 and 2. Was hoping for lateralus, sober, schism, right in two, or the pot. But oh well. Seen most of those when I saw them in Atlanta with primus. Cage was honestly disappointing. No one in the crowd seemed into it besides Matt shultz himself singing. Something had to be messed up with his mic too. Could barely hear him. His set at Roo in 2014 was so much better. His set list choices were so boring, Tons of songs that weren't that good. The Weeknd in my opinion was horrible, everyone hypes him up as such a good singer that maybe it got my hopes up too much. But when he started with the hills, he sounded so out of tune. As well his mic might've been messed up too. But I dunno. Was extremely disappointed. He got better after awhile but it was just alright all together. Shakes graves was fantastic and so was his acoustic set at the Toyota music den. Puscifer was amazing, was happy I could hear Maynard's voice finally cause I couldn't hear it muchheven though we were extremely close for tool. Feel like I never can for a Tool set cause everyone's singing a long. Foals was really good, Happy I saw them cause I missed them my first year at Roo. Wild Belle was fun. Claypool/Lennon was great, set at Roo was better but still a blast. Beats Antique was amazing as well such a cool set, so happy I got to see them, Zoe is amazing at what she does. And Arcade Fire was one of the best set I've probably ever seen. Right up front. Enough room to dance and the whole crowd was so into it, and singing every word. I'd be happy to see them at Roo next year or any other festival ever. Always welcomed in my book.
So glad to hear of all the improvements at Voodoo this year! This one's been on my radar for a while, and I'll take ANY excuse to get to New Orleans. I will be watching VERY closely for 2017...
Also, I think festing at the end of the "season" is the single best thing a die-hard can do. Couple that with Halloween in NOLA and Voodoo's timing is soooo right.
My final thoughts for now but I'm still interested in hearing from the rest of you all. It was great seeing Phi, VC, Blotter, cmack, JGW76, Jabco and I think it was notmitchellbade but I swore my boy said not modest something.
Everyone on the web seems to be marveling at how well run Voodoo was this year. I agree. It exceeded my expectations, but it usually does - just from a fun standpoint whereas this year it was the festival itself. All my kids think it's the best fest in the city and they are all Buku generation kids. I'm still marveling about that Claypool/Lennon show and couldn't disagree more about the comparison between Bonnaroo and Voodoo. I watched them both and I feel it's no contest how much better the Voodoo set was. But thats also splitting hairs.
Worst costume I saw was Friday. This guy had a Darren Sharper jersey so I walked over to him and called him out. I told him that I'm known for tasteless costumes and humor but that even I wasn't going to show up in a Sharper jersey. He told me I was the only one to get it. And I guess that guy had the balls to pull off a modern day fright costume like that. Clearly date rape is wrong and terrible just the same. Solid 9/10 on the weekend and an overall A- Voodoo pulling off a similar year will solidify it as a top fest. I have Deluna and Waka 14 at my top (festivals overall). No way id put the usual circuit of Hangout, Jazz Fest, Buku or Euphoria in the same league. I also think it otherwise is better for me than Bonnaroo or other city tests that are way bigger because of the logistics. I'll never know about Hula because there is about a 0% chance I'm not going to Vooodoo.
Harambe in Heaven costume? Was it like an actual furry gorilla suit with angel shits on it?
Pretty sure cmack stood directly in between Longinus and I in the right middle of the crowd during Puscifer lol
Voodoo kicked as logistically, had a great time, really wish Arcade Fire had been Friday though so I could have seen them. The of Montreal show I saw instead had the best sound I've ever heard from them so I'm happy with my decision, great times.
People watching def improved over the past couple of years. I was cheesing out all weekend. Saw some things I can't unsee, def.
Top 10 sets:
1. Claypool Lennon Delirium
2. Puscifer 3. Tool 4. Ghost 5. Reignwolf 6. All Them Witches (short set) 7. Foals 8. Alison Wonderland 9. Preservation Hall Jazz Band (short set) 10. Snails
Yeah. That was that mf. It was wings and a halo on a gorilla suit. As for yours and my Top 1 and 2, I expected those two shows to be great, but I figured going in they'd be upper echelon. Both were fn incredible.
Top 10 in no real particular order: Arcade Fire Anderson.Paak Puscifer Mutemath Foals The Pretty Reckless Tool STS9 Claypool Lennon Prez Hall
Disappointing: Bear Hands Tuxedo after show. I didn't even see em, but F them for the garbage band they put on to open. By the time they performed, the Joy had 20 people in the audience.
Edit: replaced some bands as I start remembering who else Ive seen
Yeah I had a wings, halo, toga/sash n other piece of garment that I just tossed. By the time AF cam on I lost half of it, then eventually the head. Never doing that again. I did get in maybe 20 some pics with random people including another Harambe.
Tuxedo after show. I didn't even see em, but F them for the garbage band they put on to open. By the time they performed, the Joy had 20 people in the audience.
Why you hating on the Super Nice Bros when you ain't even saw them? They were better than Mayer's limpdick Jamiroquai wannabe cabbage.
The show ended up being free to anyone with a Voodoo wristband, can't be helped that people didn't want a free show.
The end of SNB had one of the funniest moments I can remember at a show. They had just finished their song with the refrain "Let me see your tits so I can stick my dick betwixt them" when this butthurt chick jumped the barricade and got on the mic checking privileges. "Why would you put your dick between my tits? It doesn't feel good to me!!" Chick kept ranting until security dragged her off. Priceless.
Security didn't seem to give a fuck either. At Monsters of Funk the next night they had Debo looking mahfa up there so no one jumped on stage. Monsters of Funk had the distinction of being the most mildsauce funk show crowd I've ever seen in nola in my life.
That crowd fucking sucked. I don't get it either, 90% weren't even at Voodoo probably so what excuse do you have for not raging?
I phrased that oddly. I did see the Super Nice Bros and have seen enough of that type of quasi-insulting joke band to just not give a shit. See Retar Crew. Still, I found a way to have fun. The ending was pretty hilarious with that chick trying to preach feminism or something. Also, I couldn't give a shit about Tuxedo either. It waslate night and that was the only thing to do. Didn't realize you were there but I was hanging out with the dude dressed as a pizza slice and his two co workers.
Final word from local music writer Keith Spera. He's usually a pretty good writer. Apparently there were 150,000 people over the weekend which is more than I figured were there, but that goes to show how great the setup was that you never really were packed in like a sardine unless you wanted front-middle-rail somewhere. Also, and 3post1jack1 mentioned it before, but the piss walls were pretty cool. I have no idea how you don't get Splash Back (?) from those since you're literally 4-5" away from the wall itself. But I guess they're designed to disburse at an angle away from the person taking a leak? I don't know. Still, this was the best festival of the year for me and probably the best I've been to since Waka 2014.
2017 - U2, Green Day, Ice Cube, Bassnectar, Van Buren and Flavor of the Month Pop EDM? This year was particularly rap-heavy on Friday, Rock heavy on Saturday and Indie/livetronica on Sunday. Who knows? There's always competing EDM, but the closers (outside of Gramatik) haven't much thrilled me the last couple of years. 14 with Pretty Lights and Skrillex was cool (though I wasn't missing Arctic Monkeys or Foo Fighters), and then 13 with Bassnectar and Afrojack would have been okay had they not been conflicting with The Cure/Dr. John and then Afrojack vs. Nine Inch Nails.
