So we have been the past 4 years (went to Lolla in "11 and then found this - never looked back). That being said, every year they get a little bigger. Two years ago we started riding bikes to the fest so we didn't have to deal with the clusterfuck that is leaving anytime after 10pm. Once you get into the metro station it's fine, it's just getting there.... Last year was the first time we had the exchange rate in our favor (25% off). otherwise it was at par. The first year we went they had a grandstand option (just main stages) that was just a little more the the regular GA, which we loved. The second year they added a vip (which sucked) and a super vip, plus the grandstand option. 3rd and 4th years they have done a "terrace" at the main stage which is worth the $ imo, and a super vip which isn't (unless you really like to be backstage). They did not have "vip" viewing at all the stages, just the main. Last year they increased to 45k a day, and we felt it. There are several narrow passages between stages, not mention a staircase that goes over a road, that can create huge bottlenecks if you're not aware of the traffic flow. I do love this fest though - it obviously has the power of being able to double book with Lolla, so the lineup is usually excellent. I love Montreal, especially in the summer. We stay right by Rue St Catherine i the latin/gay quarter and walking the streets before ad after the fest is great. They let you bring food in. And the food in the fest is really good and varied. The rumors of a greatly expanded fest have got me seriously worried though. There just isn't the room. Last year was really crowded (again, we know how to navigate, so we did ok but..) I love to turn people on to this fest - when we first stared going it was such a gem.
They can't double in size unless they cut down all the trees in the parc, which clearly isn't happening. Not too mention that there's no way the metro can accommodate that many people. More likely that rumor means they are going to add maybe 10k per day (and that is frankly a huge stretch for this fest). We've been the past 4 years and love it. If they even increase by 10k a day, we'll probably pass.
I'll try and find the article. It even showed a rough outlook of what they were going for.
Edit: found the article. It's 65 000 up from 45 000. Overshot on my part, I got a shotty memory.
Alright. I've shared information with you. Now you have to share information with me. PM will do fine
Thank You! This was very informative. Luckily it looks like they won't be able to expand for a few more years. I hope they address the issue of getting people on and off the island...

Thinking about renting a bike this year myself. The subway getting out was literally soul-crushing.
, I'm still interested in how much of this you know. I have to imagine it's more than just the headliners just from the way you're building it up. If they have a volunteer program this year, I think I'm down. It'll be quite the summer if that's the case.

We've biked the past two years - it's a really easy ride - bike path all the way.
How much do Canadian hotels cost? Should I get my passport. I'm stuck between this gov ball and Roo. Before I said Roo for sure. Now it's just iffy.
Well if you're American it won't be too expensive,if you consider the exchange rate. But it is Montreal so Air BnB or a Hostel is going to be a lot cheaper.

do we have any clues for the lineup?
Kind of a hint towards Joanna Newsom maybe. possibly. idk.
The twitter embedding thing cut out the post mentioning Joanna Newsom

Might end up spending a few extra days in Montreal if they manage to snag LCD Soundsystem because that would save me a trip to Panorama. Have to imagine if LCD is playing Coachella and Roo they'd be at Lolla as well.

Similar to how Roo got Outkast in 2014?
Valid point, but in 2014 both Lolla and Osheaga got Outkast. If Lolla does in fact get LCD Soundsystem, they're still within budget as Panorama reflects. Roo often marches to the beat of a different drum.
