Excuse my ignorance first of all. I know nothing about this act.... Ok, what exactly has LCD done to become a headliner, (other than quit in 2011) after being #16 on the 2010 lineup? 2010 top 16 in order: Dmb Kol Stevie Jay z Tenacious D Weezer Flaming lips Dead weather Damian Marley Phoenix Norah jones Michael franti Fogerty Regina spektor Jimmy Cliff LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Are you guys confused about who the band is or what good marketing techniques are?
Google LCD soundsystem. Listen. You hear that? It's catchy! Now google James Murphy. You'll probably see an article about a wine bar and a subway. He seems to be a bit of a summers breeze.
Now google capitalism. Read. See that? It's clever! A central theme is supply and demand. You may be confused at this point. See, they made what is an absolutely unoriginal move with respect to the music industry. They dismantled, but not before a gigantic tour and several sold outnights at the cube. They then put their documentary out and waited patiently for the gauge on payment for a show to rise. It clearly hit the mark they wanted it to, as they've now shown up on several festival posters - as a headliner
Go back and ask google if you can play tetris. Google will now calm you.

The easy play would be to make fun of you, but I'll take a half-ass stab at it.
Look at this list of bands and realize that LCD has remained more popular and relevant than nearly all of them, despite not having released any new music.
You know how basically every new band has that combination indie rock electronic sound these days? LCD pioneered that.
Also, notice how how Deadmau5 rocketed from the bottom of that lineup to headlining? He didn't do much different between now and then, his music just got a lot more popular. Same with LCD.

My fiance had never heard of them either, played him a few songs on Spotify and he realized he'd heard their songs over the years and didn't know that was them - suspect that will be the case with a lot of folks.

Excuse my ignorance first of all. I know nothing about this act.... Ok, what exactly has RatDog done to become a headliner, (besides change their name in 2015) after being #11 on the 2007 lineup? 2007 top 12 in order:
THE POLICE TOOL WIDESPREAD PANIC THE WHITE STRIPES BEN HARPER & THE INNOCENT CRIMINALS WILCO THE FLAMING LIPS MANU CHAO RADIO BEMBA SOUND SYSTEM STRING CHEESE INCIDENT FRANZ FERDINAND ORNETTE COLEMAN BOB WEIR AND RATDOG

LOL well first off they added the drummers of the Grateful Dead.

and they didn't change their name. Two totally different bands.

But RatDog has a lineup that has changed pretty regularly. How does this iteration have any substantive difference from those which preceded it? It's RatDog + John Mayer.
The only two people in DeadCo that are the same are Bobby and Chimenti. But I suppose they all play the same songs, so not much substantive difference.
Ratdog will be coming back in 2016 too, apparently. lol

I can't wait for LCD and Deadco. Both shows will be highlights this year. Though I do think I would have preferred Dead with Phil and Trey but I'm pretty happy with Mayer.
LCD is one of those must see shows because I got into them way too late and then thought I wouldn't be able to see them live (at least as LCD or at a festival). So glad they got back together.
