Yea this fest barely has its shit together, no hired goons scouring the interwebz for leaks over at Made. What ya got to give us?
Would really appreciate this.
I'm assuming Rihanna and Drake?
I could see Rihanna/Drake/Calvin Harris as the top 3.
I watched the live stream of Calvin Harris (with the appearance from Rihanna) from Coachella last night and I came away impressed. The visuals, lighting, pryotechnics, etc. get better and better every year. Can't say they'd port the whole thing over to MIA, but if he headlined, I think people would have a good time.

Would a radius clause with Panorama prohibit Kendrick from headlining a festival two hours away? Also, are there any rumors of Drake doing festivals in lieu of/alongside his eventual Views from the 6 headlining tour?

We've got a lot of time to kill before a lineup drops, just throwing this "what if" out there. Wondering how the Metallica headlining spot would have affected things last year. Would The Weeknd have opened for them? Such an outlier from the other artists (right? Closest might have been Modest Mouse, I guess?) With the way the rest of the lineup was constructed, would the place just empty out for their performance? Tons of Metallica fans just idling around until the night? Were there other bands that would have been there if the Metallica deal went through?
I think the big takeaway from them NOT playing was that they could sell out the festival without a rock headliner at all.

Last year's festival sold out because of Beyonce, and not selling separate day passes was a stroke of genius in that context. Hell, even the additional 10K passes that were opened up sold out. Total scumbag move if you ask me, but hey, it's in the past now.
Agreed that a rock headliner isn't necessary; look at how few people showed up for KOL in 2014 (and apparently even less were there for NIN in 2013).
I believe Metallica does try to stipulate who plays in front of them, so any of the urban acts would have been rough. Hell, The Weeknd also headlined Roots Picnic last year so he may not even have been considered as a booking until MIA Fest desperately needed a headliner.
the weather really messed things up for KOL though and i think that affected the crowd, it down poured that day bad. I was tehre that year but didnt stay as i think KOL is pretty awful live but i know they are really popular in the city. NIN on the other hand was an odd booking bcuz that type of music has a much smaller fan base in the city.

Still can't get over that the first year with Pearl Jam headlining didn't sell out while 2015 did. Guess that goes to show much the entire package can change things. I never knew that about Metallica. Seems like a real prima donna stipulation.

I think it's pretty cool that a headliner tries to curate their entire stage, since it does create a nice back-to-back flow of acts in a similar genre. Then again, Metallica fans are known for being assholes to other bands playing in front of them.
Must See 2018 List: 1. Drake 2. The Cure 3. David Byrne 4. King Krule 5. Moses Sumney 6. Dua Lipa 7. Mount Kimbie 8. Perfume Genius 9. Yaeji 10. Big Thief
every year we've always had 2 headliners and then the edm headliner(s). i was assuming calvin was the edm headliner. if not, that's really unfortunate.
Also i dont need to know the acts but will there by any rock, indie type bands there this year at all?
This is what I need to know too. I'll probably still end up going but I want to know for sure what he means about them moving away from the rock format and if they are completely eliminating all of the rock which I can't really see them doing.

Given last year was the first one that sold out and had a pop/EDM lean to it, can't see why they'd continue to book rock bands. If they DID, they should go for Red Hot Chili Peppers.
as someone mentioned before had Metallica headlined like they were supposed to it still would have sold out. Beyonce being so rare at a festival is what sold it out. Besides the music scene here is growing so much and tons of local acts are starting to rise so there is no reason to leave them out

Can we confirm anything as far as the headliners. Can anyone confirm Rihanna and Calvin Harris? I am curious if they would have him headline or stick with the EDM headliners preforming right before Hip Hop headliners.
if Calvin Harris is playing hes headlining. He is #2 at Hangout and was #3 at Coachella and he has already played as a sub a few years ago, twice actually i think

Can launchpad or anyone else confirm or give hints toward which possible headliners are accurate and anyone else who may show up on the second or third line.

Would the radius clause prevent Calvin Harris from headlining considering he was just announced as a headliner for the Billboard Hot100 Festival at Jones Beach in NY?
