Redskins just took a kicker in the 5th rd. Does everyone laugh at them like in fantasy drafts?
Hopefully. Remember when the Bucs took Roberto Aguayo in the 2nd round last year? Or when the Jets took Mike Nugent in the 2nd round in 2005? Janikowski was a 1st rounder, but i think that's the one case where it worked out really well.
The Pats on draft day have much different concerns than most other teams.
5th round and later though, any position seems like it's ok to draft there. Kickers and special team players before that seems early. Then again, Gostkowski was a 4th rounder.

LOL, the Browns were having a surprisingly nice draft, for a while there: they did the smart, un-Browns thing and took Garrett, Peppers is intriguing (if questionable, and a smelly Wolverine), Njoku should be a solid receiving TE on a team that needed one, Kizer is worth a shot considering he was their forth pick in the draft, Ogunjobi was pretty highly rated (not sure they needed another D lineman though), and Howard Wilson could actually end up starting at CB at some point this year.
They were doing so well that they just had to go all Cleveland Browns on us and pick a woman beater in the sixth round. I'm disappointed that after picking a bunch of great athletes who carry themselves pretty well they just couldn't resist taking a chance on a dude who punches women. Just when you think they're turning a corner and building the culture they talk so much about, they do that, as if there was no one else who could fill a need on one of the worst teams ever. Caleb Brantley has talent but slid way down for good reason. I fully expected the Bengals to pick him so Mixon could have a roomie he's comfortable with.

Picking a kicker in the 2nd is ridiculous (Aguayo) but in the late rounds isn't so bad, if you need one. Completely different than in fantasy where you are picking proven NFL talent and there are plenty of more or less equivalent kickers to go around. Not saying I'd do it, but it isn't crazy. Tampa Bay earned the laughter last year though.

Yeah, that was weird. Everyone knew Mixon would end up getting drafted, he shouldn't even get the chance to be in the NFL though. Heard the Cowboys didn't even have him on their board. Also, is it me or does it seem like there's quite a few dudes with domestic violence charges in this year's draft? I know we drafted one also, Jourdan Lewis, but in his case, he's actually innocent. He was charged with a misdemeanor, but Ann Arbor PD said there weren't any signs of domestic violence at the time of the incident. He faces a jury in July but there's a 99% chance it'll be dropped.

Janikowski was definitely a special case. If you're going to pick a kicker early he'd better project as a once in a generation type of talent, and you'd damn well better be right. Too bad the Raiders missed on so many other picks, until really turning things around more recently. It would be interesting to see who they passed on to pick him, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

The Raiders used to be all about those combine numbers. From James Jett, Raghib Ismail, Darrius Heyward-Bey, to JaMarcus Russell. They've actually done well since Al (RIP) passed and his son took over. Same with Dallas. Their drafts have been much better since Jerry gave his son more control. I'm so thankful they took Zack Martin over Manziel, which purportedly, Jerry had to be swayed from taking the glamour pick by Stephen Jones.

I don't know if it was an unusually large number this year, or whether we might just hear more about it these days, but I'd prefer that my team not pick guys with off-field problems of any sort.
Garreon Conley was accused of rape, which is pretty damn serious of course. He says he didn't sleep with her at all (consensual or otherwise), he passed a polygraph, and supposedly there is video that contradicts the allegations. I don't know what to think sometimes, but it's definitely possible that some of these guys are wrongly accused. He still got taken in the first round, so the Raiders must be confident that he'll be cleared in full. I bet a lot of teams would have passed on Mixon even in the 7th though, to avoid the bad PR if nothing else, just like how no one had interest in Ray Rice after the elevator punch-n-drag.

Yeah, the browns seemed to have the same draft problems as Al Davis and Jerry Jones did at times, which was thinking they were smarter than everybody else and skipping legitimate conventional talent evaluation. A few years ago with Ray Farmer as GM, executives from other teams were supposedly shocked at how disorganized and unprepared the Browns were on draft day, and they were compared to the guy at the fantasy draft who shows up with no notes and doesn't know who is injured or who just got cut. I wish they would have passed on John Partybro, too. When multiple other teams pass on guys that could fill needs, you've got to wonder why, not just think "Ooh, good value getting him this late."
The Al/Jerry comparisons still worry me here, since Jimmy Haslam has shown a desire to participate, and the guy ultimately in charge of Browns' roster decisions now isn't a "football guy" but a Harvard Law guy.

So, the Browns GM is like Trump? Anyhow, the Browns have wasted uncountable numbers of draft picks. They are without a doubt the worst franchise team in NFL history. Jags and Panthers made it to the playoffs not far after their conception and Houston is now perennial division winners. I still feel bad for the fans who were there before the Ravens left, only to see that team go on to win a Super Bowl A few years later.

While far too many NCAA football players just worry (er, don't worry enough) about staying eligible, I find it kind of interesting when a guy like Joshua Dobbs comes along. Here's a quote on SBNation: “When I went to college, I wanted to major in something that I had a passion for,” Dobbs said at the Senior Bowl in January. “Growing up, I was always fascinated with aviation and I always succeeded in math and sciences, so aerospace engineering was right up my alley.”
The Browns and Trump enjoy similar approval ratings, and similar blind faith in spite of facts. The jury is still out on the current GM. At least he isn't responsible for wasting first round picks on John Fooseball, Brandon Weeden, Trent Richardson, Cam Erving, Justin Gilbert, and Barkevious Mingo, all in one hilarious 4-year span. The front office is on a 20-year bender.
I've never been swayed by the orange guy, but but the Browns still have some of us under their wicked spell. I don't know, but maybe we think they'll turn into the Cavs of the NFL, and when we finally win it will be so sweet that it'll feel worth it. Then again, they're probably more likely to turn into a pumpkin than into the Cavs, or just move to London.

Fun fact: Tennessee and Arizona were his top two teams. He chose Tennessee because their engineering program was better.
Yea I thought Boulware and Jadar Johnson would be drafted. Artavis Scott is actually the leading wr in Clemson history, not Williams, Hopkins or Watkins, but I thought there was a chance he wouldn't be drafted.
I think he probably landed in one of the best possible places. It's far away from Buffalo and it's a place where he could actually win a starting job.
People in Buffalo really wanted the Bills to pick him but I think it would've been a recipe for disaster. Too much of his high school posse around here and the pressure of going into that stadium with Kelly on his back could have crushed him. (It also would have made it impossible for Taylor to have a shot to succeed.)
He's got talent but he needs to learn how to be an adult.
I'm very pleased with the Cowboys' draft. Taco wasn't my favorite edge guy but I trust Marinelli's scouting and ability to develop players implicitly. Love taking two corners to develop together - one very consistent defender and one ball-hawking highlight reel guy. I'm not 100% sure why they drafted another Beasley when we already have Beasley other than for punt returns. Apparently they had Woods in their big board top 70 but managed to get him in the 6th (for a 5th...). Atlanta did pretty well with a very young secondary last year. My big concern right now is who is playing RT and where are we getting depth behind the o-line starters. Going to be a fun year.

I popped into this thread due to a bump, and happened to notice this post. As a Redskins fan, even though my life kinda sucks as a result, I have to point out that this did not happen. #fakenews

It was Cincinnati, one pick before Washington.
Note: I'd seen fifth round grades for the kicker but it's tough to justify a kicker that early unless you've got a really strong roster.

I'm hoping to see the Raiders get their season on track tonight. They were my pre-season pick for Super Bowl champs. It would be nice to see the two second year backs more in the middle of the game and Lynch as the closer, short yardage, goal line back. This Chiefs team has been fun to watch though. Should be a good game.

Yeah. Why are the Bears and Panthers the only game on for me now? I thought CBS was AFC. I'd rather watch the Bills and Bucs or the Cards and Rams in London on Fox, but my local affiliate has on a science show right now. Oh well, I can catch up on The Deuce now.

Chris Long with the My Morning Jacket t shirt in this MNF pre-game segment on his donation of his entire 2017 NFL earnings to educational charities in the three cities he has played for in the NFL and scholarships to the private school he attended in Charlottesville, VA almost makes me want to pull for the Eagles.
