I'll be there for the Sunday listening! Is it my imagination or are there a lot more awesome things happening in the morning this year? I'm pretty happy about that!

The listening parties are from 10:00am - 12:00pm on Friday and 11:00am - 1:00pm on Sunday @ the Knoxville Museum of Art. You have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the daily schedule pages to see that info (and you'll find the discussion details there too... though there is nothing currently on the Thursday page).
Big Ears is never really a party for me. I tend to focus too much on the schedule and where I need to be. Not saying I won't be drinking, it just isn't a priority for me there.

If we're talking about drinking, I think most all of the places in the map I made last year are still valid. One that has been added since last year (I think) is Sugar Mama's. It's a bakery/bar that just carries local breweries on their tap wall. It's in the realm of where you'll be walking for the festival.

Crafty Bastard is still my favorite brewery in town btw. As an added bonus, the bartender abrakapokus knows plays a soundtrack that wouldn't look out of place in Now Playing.

I'm curious if that Goose Island Patio, at Mill & Mine, is where the smoking section was last year. Chances are good that I'll be spending a lot time (and monies) there.

E: Holy cow, I hate mobile Inforoo these days.
Yeah. I would assume it is. They've finished that out a little more since last year and generally have food vendors out there during shows from my understanding.
Think I figured out my schedule, barring any last-minute changes . . .
Thursday: Ahleuchatistas > Dave Harrington Group > Matana Roberts > Anna Meredith > Stop Making Sense*
Friday: Maya Beiser > Matmos > Frederic Rzewski > Claire Chase > ACME > Johann Johannsson's "Drone Mass" > The Crossing (?) > Wilco > Tortoise > Oliver Coates
Saturday: Jem Cohen's Instrument > Meredith Monk > Xiu Xiu Plays "Twin Peaks" > Theo Bleckmann Quintet > Colin Stetson > Gavin Bryars Ensemble > The Magnetic Fields or Steve Lehman & Selebeyone > Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith > "No Country for Old Men" or Deerhoof**
Sunday: Meredith Monk: "Book of Days" (?) > Rachel Grimes feat. Joan Shelley & Nathan Salsburg > The Magnetic Fields (?) > Gavin Bryars Ensemble: "Jesus' Blood..." > Oliver Coates (?) > Jace Clayton/Julius Eastman > Henry Threadgill's Zooid > Gavin Bryars Ensemble: The Sinking of the Titanic
Questions marks indicate ones that are kinda up in the air for me or that I don't really know enough about to say definitively that I want to see. Sunday is a little light on must-sees for me, but I imagine I'll be so exhausted by that point that I won't care much.
*I'll probably end up seeing some of My Brightest Diamond in between Meredith and Stop Making Sense. My dad, who will be attending with me, is a big fan of hers. ** I'm honestly not sure what's most worth checking out on Saturday night: Gavin Bryars, Magnetic Fields, or Steve Lehman. And that "No Country" and Deerhoof conflict is killing me.

I really like her music too... and was hoping to finally catch her live. If I really book it, I can probably catch 20 mins of her set in-between Anna Meredith & the 10-min-before-the-show mark for Blonde Redhead...

Can you give me a better idea of what type of music you like to catch at shows like this? Are you more into electronic, rock-oriented, jazz, performance art, etc? If it's a mix of all of that, maybe name some of the more "experimental/innovative" artists you're into.

The aforementioned Crafty Bastard Brewery is doing a fundraiser Sunday for a local refugee non-profit on Sunday 2p-6p. If you have a break and are into that sort of thing, I know from numerous friends/acquaintances that Bridge is more than worthy of a couple bucks thrown their way. www.facebook.com/events/1813552028894431/

You know the big ones. MEV and Supersilent are pretty much the rare of the rare. Deathprod (straight noise ala' Ben Frost or Tim Hecker) is another "get" performance and Gavin Bryars has never played in the US to my knowledge. I actually have two different schedules for Sunday. One includes him and another doesn't. Gonna be a game day decision, I think.

I second all of this... Also Hans-Joachim Roedelius (of Krautrock pioneer bands Cluster & Harmonia) *feels* rare to me, but maybe he's toured below my radar recently (easy to do). You'll probably also like Colin Stetson's take on Gorecki's 3rd Symphony (cross between the original with elements of Godspeed You! Black Emperor). Julius Eastman Memorial Dinner should be a pretty big deal too (hoping I can catch most of it, but I don't want to miss the 10-min-before-the-doors rule for Deathprod).
