hey y'all I got a few things to ask about this shaky knees thing. any ideas on when the lineup will come out? are there after shows and stuff, if so should I get tickets for them asap or os it not crazy getting them? also looking a motel place like 20 minutes away walking for the park is that good idea? I went to pitchfork last year and that was my first non-camping fest not use to planning for them. but pf that seems a little more low key then this and I kinda know Chicago? thanks everyone.

Lineups should be out mid Jan based on prior years.
There are after shows Fri and Sat nights at various venues around the city.
Uber is very reliable and easy way to get around but i would also say that you can stay a little further away and Uber or stay close to Marta on the north side of town and it is a 10 min walk from the station.
Like most cities when you get downtown the neighborhoods can vary from street to street and there isn't a ton to do outside of sporting events and concerts in this part of town.
Shaky really grew last year but for its size it still felt very mellow and well run/organized and has that low key vibe. I went ahead on got early bird VIP tickets this year bc i spent so much on beer last year it almost pays for itself but my group had a great time in GA and was able to get up front for a few bigger acts without much stress.
Tickets historically have been available until the fest started, they also offer some cool bonus viewing areas and swag last year from Samsung if you have one.

When purchasing my shaky knees ticket, I noticed that the second payment is due on like January 15, so I'm sure the lineup will come out very close to that date. After shows go on throughout the city on Friday and Saturday and they will probably have at least one SK sponsored show on Thursday. Whether or not these shows sell out is a case by case thing, usually it's easy to predict which shows will sell out based on the venue and who is playing. I know shows at Terminal West, The Earl, and The Masquerade have sold out in the past. The walking idea really depends on the exact location of the hotel. Personally, I grew up in Atlanta, so I will walk just about anywhere because I'm comfortable there (though that's probably a bad idea.) Like Slasherob said, you can uber for fairly cheap, just take turns or split it with your friends. Or stay further away and be near a MARTA stop.

Take with a grain of salt, but I was told by a source to expect Shakey Knees/Shakey Beats the week of 1\9, which is also the same week Bonnaroo is rumored to announce their lineup. This also probably means Coachella is dropping the first week of January since they have to buy the first domino to drop.

LCD vs. Wilco Bon Iver vs. The. Offspring Phoenix vs. Soundgarden
I feel like Wilco might be too big of an act to return so soon after playing in 2015. They do have a new album out though so I definitely wouldn't say it's impossible. I'd personally love to see them there!

Nooo Phoenix vs. Animal Collective and MGMT vs. LCD would both kill me because all of those are all time favorites of mine I've yet to see live.
I hope I'm not getting my hopes up again too much this year. Last year was such a disappointment. I seriously hope some/most of these names end up on there. I'm trying to picture what the worse possible acts they could book and prepare myself for that... but still hoping for the best.

Last year was a disappointment? Did you see Roo's lineup? No one should complain about Shaky knees lineup in 2016. Sure they switched it up a little, but that was a pretty balanced lineup.

Yeah just thought it was really weak. Headliners were terrible, minus MMJ. I felt like there was an obvious attempt to bring more accessible pop bands (which I hope isn't a trend) and yeah wasn't feeling how they switched it up. Not to say that there weren't bands that I didn't want to see, but the whole thing just really wasn't up my alley and was all just very ehh to me. 2015 was incredible so I probably had my hopes up too high. I know a lot of people were pretty let down by it as well.

The difference you're comparing to Roo's heap of garbage, but 2016 was an undeniable step down from 2015

2015 had the best lineup lets face it. the Strokes, the pixies, Ryan Adams, Noel Gallagher, Mastodon, Tame Impala, Old crow, NMH, Interpol, Brand New, TV on the radio, flogging molly, milky chance, Mac demarco, fuckin panda bear, American football, wavves, fidlar, speedy Ortiz. Not to mention BUILT TO SPILL AND FUCKIN SPIRITULIZED. Why did I have to work this weekend. Didn't Ride play too?? Holy fuck that fest will never have a better lineup than that.
