Slowdive played last year and Beck just played Music Midtown.
Forgot about Slowdive playing last year. If an act plays Music Midtown one year, does that pretty much rule them out for an ATL fest the next year?
If so, that's a bummer. I know Sweetwood has been trying to book Beck for awhile.
I don't know that there's a direct connection there but it doesn't make much sense for a big act to play ATL in September then come back 7 months later. Maybe if he puts out his new album, like, now and promptly announces a big US tour it could happen but it seems unlikely.
Also Real Estate was here like a month ago. Don't know that they'll swing through the south again so soon. Maybe Martin Courtney though.
I feel like with that million dollar expansion they got for their location....my prediction of them getting Arcade Fire could happen.
Predicting...
Arcade Fire-Phoenix-Bon Iver

The expansion of the park and the festival are not related at all.
I mean, larger grounds would seem like a necessary step to ensure that the fest can compensate the increase in attendees if they want to book bands that that are as big as Arcade Fire (or bigger)

They've already hosted plenty of bands bigger than Arcade Fire. Outkast brought in something like 60,000 people over three days.
What I think rebelgpunk was getting at though is the expansion is entirely a city of Atlanta thing. Centennial hosts dozens of events throughout the year and they're constantly doing maintenance on it. In the eyes of the city it's just another event hosted in the park.
Shaky Knees is not putting up any of the money for the infrastructre and I doubt Shaky Knees even considers Centennial their permanent home. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved again at some point.

Ah, I haven't lived in the city since the Olympics, when was a young child. I was not aware that they host lots of concerts/events in the park. I wish that they would just move back to the park it was in in 2015 because the only problem with it was that one stage was on a parking lot, so it got really hot, but I was fine with that.

Two stages and a tent were on the asphalt, but it was a great location. They moved because it got bought out (but recently failed). By the time the negotiations fell through, SK had already had Centennial as the location.

Agreed. That was a great location. Even though the development deal fell through as King T noted it's doubtful they ever make it back there. ATL City Council is keen on focusing a lot of development right there. Here's hoping though.

Big decision tomorrow on VIP tix or GA, I have been leaning VIP after seeing the set up last year and how much i spent on beer each day but have heard lines in VIP for beer can be 20-25 min at times, which is surprising since no one is paying...
I get that you can only take 1 drink out with you but can order 4 at a time. Also i think i read free water bottles which adds up during the day if you don't want to carry a refillable water bottle around.
Any other opinions on how VIP was last year for anyone as far as views, space, etc? Trying to justify the extra cost. Also would like to not miss bands trying to hold a great spot for a headliner, which seems like another huge advantage.
And, in other news, Lush is out and they are now done with their reunion. Who else could take that shoegaze pre-headlining spot they've had for the past two years?

Probabaly not preheadlining but The Jesus and Mary Chain.

I second The Jesus and Mary Chain. Another one, if they're still touring at that point, would be The Joy Formidable.

I did GA 2015, VIP 2016. I thought it was absolutely worth it. I would only consider festival VIP with food and drinks included in the price, and I worked hard to get my money's worth on that front. With the hotel prepaid, I went to Atlanta and only spent like 30 dollars in three days. Often after a good festival day I look at my money and think "Did I really spend that much on beer and food?" Avoiding that moment was, well, priceless. The beer lines were only crazy-long once (I think it was Saturday afternoon), and they had improved it on Sunday. The food was generally really good. The viewing areas were generally pretty open, though of course the VIP area got crowded in the late afternoon. VIP recommended!
I'd be so upset if Shaky Knees got Fleet Foxes over Roo. I'm sure they'll be at another fest closer to me, but I still can't believe Roo missed them all of the previous years when they were touring.
The xx have a European tour booked for February and March then Lollapalooza South America. I assume they'd head to Coachella after Lolla but would be cool if Shaky Knees got them.
