It's depressing how we can't really ever confirm or deny EDM acts for the most part because they play so many festivals so nothing is really ruled out and can do multiple ones a day.......
My dark horse pick is potentially Martin Garrix since he is totally going to win the DJMag100. He will surely cost a lot but I wouldn't put it past them.

How's the #1 DJ Magazine candidate a dark horse?
at a quick glance, only two of the top 19 has ever played bonnaroo. skrillex/tiesto

Right, this and that LiveNation is now running the show and if they are booking the chainsmokers (who now are certified massive names in music) then it's not a stretch to think they would book someone that's been making hits that are more and more radio friendly.
Interesting, fun fact me and Garrix have had twitter beef on two separate occasions
I don't follow him I don't think. What was it about haha
Me accusing him of pre recorded sets and him firing back saying "you must have a great sense of humor, idiot" to which I replied "PLAY ANIMALS!!!!!!" then I had Garrix Stan twitter favoriting it for a whole year later

i actually had a fucking blast seeing him at tomorrowworld. he dropped knife party-boss mode and i was def not expecting to hear that. the kid is very talented even if you hate him and his music
Yeah talent just doesn't mean much to me if I don't like the end result. But everyone has their own tastes so to each his own. I mean I like Kaskade for crying out loud and he gets to be damn cheesy.
Also separate point. Watch the last 15 minutes of David Guetta's 2016 Ultra set and he does the funniest crowd speeches ever I nearly burst into tears laughing. I want to see David Guetta on that principle alone now.

Haha I see Guetta in the Aoki category of just please-god-spare-us. But at least with Guetta you would definitely get him rambling via some drug induced hallucination ala Tomorrowland every year.

Guetta is a 48 years old child with the same haircut he had 20 years ago. Just a sad spectacle nowadays. He'll play 3 sets.
The funny/unfortunate thing is that Guetta was massively influential in the 90's French house/disco scene. He was, at one time, a legitimately good DJ. Though for all his faults as they exist now, he's still perfectly adept at creating decent pop songs.
It's crazy to think that this guy we see now is also the one that had the famous "F*ck Me I'm Famous" weekly parties and was that influential. I hate to admit that I don't love his new stuff but I usually don't mind the pop stuff either.

To think we once lived in a world that Guetta and Tiesto were actual contributors and helped mainstream dance music is scary. Now my wife and I will stream any of their sets (that are obviously streamed live) and put it on mute. Guetta's facial expressions and Tiesto's awkward dancing are the perfect compliment to a puff puff pass.
It's also hilarious to me that people in this thread have recently expressed interest in acts including Martin Garrix, Swedish House Mafia, Kygo, Big G, Bassnectar, A^I and Kaskade somehow think they're above the likes of David Guetta.
SHM, Big G, and nectar are all above guetta IMO. But i would never want nectar to be billed again due to the absurd fanbase. everything else up there is bottom of the barrel.

To be fair, Kaskade made some great actual house songs and his Redux sets are wonderful, him playing a redux set somewhere at Roo would be amazing. Also I want to one day go to EDC and see David Guetta simply for the speeches, it would be a fun time. Garrix, Axwell Ingross, and Kygo tho... no thanks.

My impression of Guetta has always been that he's in on the joke. I saw him in 2010 or so at a no-frills club and he was really good. Played for 4-5 hours with no bullshit. It just seems like he plays down to his audience and hams it up at the big fests.

Yeah a DJ is usually gonna play what the crowd wants or what they didn't know they wanted. It's similar to how you don't play the same music in the car with your mother than with your friends.
SHM is a guilty pleasure that I can't explain why it's any better then all other big room house. Big G at least does shit. They aren't a name behind other artists music (at least not all of it), and Kaskade just puts on music that is a little less "radio" than Guetta which is why I think I prefer him. Guetta is just a more annoying Calvin Harris with an awful accent.
