Flume Above & Beyond Rufus Du Sol Borgore NGHTMRE Louis The Child Getter
...holding out hope that this could possible happen! Granted, I'm only interested in A&B and Rufus but that'd be more than enough for me as I usually only catch 3-4 EDM sets over the course of the weekend usually.
so at this point, if Girl Talk shows up on the lineup are we more positive about it than I've seen in the past when his name gets brought up?
Girl Talk suffered mostly from overexposure. Each of his three albums is fucking fun as hell. The schtick just got boring after a while. Also, is he even still playing music? Last time I recall seeing him on lineups was around 2014, when he was trying to transition from his mashup/whatever stuff to more original compositions.
He played Ubahn Fest in Cinci in the fall. I'm not sure that he's done a lot since then. He twitter in December a little bit but no word on what he was up to. Sometimes he does a NYE show but I dont know if he did one in Pittsburgh or not. I'd love to see him show up personally but he's pretty radio silent at the moment so who knows what the hell he is up to I guess.

I thought girl talk was fun as hell at roo in '07. I was over his whole mash-up thing in '09 but it didn't seem like a bad booking. By 2011 that schtick was stale. Being happy about seeing him on the 2017 lineup means we have hit pathetic lows.

I actually tweeted at GirlTalk to ask if anything was coming down the pipe and he just "liked" the tweet. So take that for whatever it's worth in regards to anything new coming from him.
I'm really starting to feel confident about Martin Garrix being the #1 billed EDM act.
never listened to a song of his all the way through but I'm pretty confident I am not at all a fan.
lol yeah I'm not overly familiar with his stuff either. A few songs but not more than a handful. I would imagine he will be on Which. I tend to think his set is probably something you'd get from Tiesto or Calvin Harris now, except with less recognizable songs unless you are into the "EDM" side of electronic music.
Honestly, I'd take Martin Garrix over Major Lazer. I'll take anything over Major Lazer.
I've watched a ML live stream one or twice and wasn't overly impressed. I love a good rager ever once in awhile but that whole thing looks over-whelming and sounded terrible. I'd prefer just some DJ playing massive drop after drop than the ML. But I can see why some would prefer ML.
On the shakey beats lineup the only things i feel bad about potentially not being at roo are Mutemath, Haywyre, and Bonobo. But getter is on the lineup so there's still hope

wtf is a "live dj set"? (Regarding Mutemath on the lineup)

Worst case scenario happened here with EDM. And Festival Owl asked Garrix about Bonnaroo and he said he would not be at Bonnaroo so don't know what happened there but something must have fallen through. Looks like Summerset or someone like that might be filling my EDM void this year.
I said it in the lineup thread but as an EDM fan and somebody who typically goes to "EDM fests" this is atrocious. I'm the type that if I walk past a set that seems high-energy I'll give it a shot no matter who it is and I usually have a good time for at least a little while (even if it's someone like Getter or Borgore). But they made it obvious that EDM was a focus this year and added a huge load of hot garbage.
Major Lazer - the worst 25 minutes of a live set I've ever seen and you couldn't pay me to watch another minute of them Flume - Flume isn't bad but he's all over the fest circuit and just did a huge tour. If he doesn't create a new show then this will be blah Marshmello: most ridiculous booking I've ever seen for a fest of Roo's size Big Gigantic - they're at least a lot of fun and their revamped show is a good time. But again. they're literally everywhere. Yellow Claw - the 2nd worst live set I've ever seen. It's Flosstradamus 2.0 Louis the Child - I don't get the hype they've gotten over the past year. I've seen them twice and both sets were snoozefests Borgore - if you're truly a Borgore fan then I reserve the right to judge you NGHTMRE: I saw him at one of his first big shows ever and it was fun, but it's definitely a generic trap set (Tyler is an awesome dude though) Getter: suh dude? Snails: if you like heavy dubstep then he's actually pretty good. It's just such a specific taste or you need to be in the mood for "vomit step". I enjoyed him when I saw him. Illenium: actually a lot of fun and should be a pretty good set. Unfortunately they'll probably get stuck playing at 3:00 some day Claude von Stroke: IMO he's BY FAR the best EDM artist they got who is guaranteed to be a good show. G Jones: like his stuff and it's really different, I just don't see how he fits on any Roo lineup. OOkay: saw him once and he was so drunk he didn't even pretend to mix. He literally came into the crowd and partied half the set. At one point he couldn't figure out how to get the next track started and had to have his manager come on stage and do it. Herobust: I've seen him but don't remember anything about it so it obviously wasn't good San Holo: generally generic trap but I had a blast at his show this year. Will depend on your mood. Rezz: she's gotten a lot of hype lately and I'm seeing her next month. No idea what to expect. She's guaranteed to have the coolest glasses there though. Haywyre: will be something different than most. Only saw 20 mins of him but it was a good time. Barclay Crenshaw v Goody Grace: I'd be looking forward to this show more than any other EDM act. Claude is awesome and brings it even harder for special shows like this. I wouldn't miss this show. Ganja White Night: was pretty fun and seems a little more original than most dubstep sets, but they're who make me think there has to be an EDM stage. They won't get a late night slot but are you really going to put them at the beginning of a day in one of the tents?
I don't know much about the other EDM artists but again, this is a disaster. Adding an EDM stage seems to be inevitable and will at least draw a lot of the "unwanted crowd" away from other stages, come on mannnnn.

Spot on
There were some great choices on the EDM side. Whoever the talent buyer is here clearly is on bath salts.
Don't feel bad though... going to Coachella and we got marshmallowed too.

Yeah, I swore I wasn't going to EForest again this year and was going to do something different but I might end up just going back due to the proximity and the numbers of acts I'd want to see (Above and Beyond, MMJ, Claude, Nero, Lettuce, Floozies, Matisyahu, Tauk, etc). It just sucks because while you have to deal with being "Mello'd", Forest has to deal with being permanently "Nectared".
Don't care if the edm is lacking (to yall).... I'd rather dance at night than rage to death metal.
At an EDM set, you can dance and get crazy even if you're never heard the music before. I think everyone getting crazy around you just makes it that much more fun. If you're standing at the back of the stage, then just stop. Get in there. Experience it. All EDM sets are terrible from the outskirts.
I have similar taste in edm music as justin so when he recommends something, i generally give it a try and since the edm was enough to get him back to bonnaroo this year, I'm cool with what we got!
quacking lol. some people just can't listen to the same mindless, trite garbage for a whole weekend. It's cool if ya dig it, but we will continue to call a spade a spade

yup, i've accepted who i am and i'm not ashamed of it at all. i turn 30 in a couple weeks here and i know what i enjoy doing and it is what it is. i tend to not talk about it much here cuz people here don't like it so i just keep to myself for the most part. i'm also not one to say that these edm acts are super talented or anything along those lines, it's just fun and i like it
"indie" music bores the hell out of me. it's gonna be lit, light me up, don't care :-)
