So after mentioning that festival season (Coachella in particular) is playing a role in when their album is released, should we start mentioning The Shins more?

They played in 2012, and James Mercer came back in 2014 with Broken Bells, so there is a history there, for what it's worth. (Not even a huge fan of either group, but found myself at both shows. I liked The Shins better by far.)
I suppose I should start listening to the Shins. Where do I start?
Chutes too narrow
Though I love what I'm hearing I can't help but think way too many artists have taken this sound. Definitely gonna stop by Target tomorrow and pick it up though.

To me they were one of the defining bands of that brand of indie sound in the '00s, kind of in the vein of Death Cab For Cutie. Their first three albums are all pretty solid and their last one (Port of Morrow) is good but less so. According to the interview James Mercer did today, the new album will lean more towards their older stuff in terms of sound

As others have said, it's very much a "Seinfield is unfunny" thing. The Shins weren't the first, but certainly one of the most popular.
Every time I hear a song from The Shins I'm always like, "Man, that sounds kinda fun. I should check out more!" But I'm behind on so much music to check out that I just never manage.

We've had a sexy late night R&b artist each of the past 4-5 years (R. Kelly, Frank Ocean, D'Angelo, Miguel). Who do you think would fill that slot ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) this year? My money would be on fka twigs. Puts on a really cool show and has had a great deal of critical acclaim and is expected to release LP2 within the next year. She's also yet to perform at roo and would even be billed in the same 10-15 range as Ocean, D'Angelo, and Miguel.

He would be billed a bit lower, but does Anderson .Paak qualify?

That'd be awesome! I think something like twigs (12-1:15) > anderson paak (2-3) would be pretty insane. I could see him having the same slot as Chance in 2014.

Pond (the Australian one, not the US one) are touring the US in the fall. Please book them Bonnaroo. I know you'll stick them in a shitty spot and not let them throw a wild late night psych party, but I still want them
