With the Beyonce money, someone like Chappelle would have been a game changer and truly unique booking when competing with other festivals. Of course, that late in the game there's no way to know who would even be available.
Imagine this:
Dave Chappelle - Muse - 21 Pilots - Chance The Rapper
Fri- 21 Pilots Saturday- Dave Chappelle 10:15PM / Chance The Rapper at 12:30AM Sunday- Muse

Personally if comedy were to become a thing at I'd rather them invest that money in a comedy tent and a bunch of quality acts than go for the big splash. Chappelle's set are pretty quiet and more of a slow burn. Imagine trying to enjoy Chappelle with people drunk/messed up who are just camping out for Chance, potential disaster. Sadly people would just be screaming Chapelle Show quotes at him until he got pissed off and left the stage.
Considering the fact that a lot of the main Alt-Rock giants like Green Day and Arcade Fire that I'm sure they would have tried to book were in Europe, Firefly 2017's biggest sins are still:
1. Booking Bob Dylan late when the Who looked to be a clear option 2. Thinking K$sha and Thirsty Seconds to Mars on the top 3 lines of the poster was a good idea 3. Chasing ticket sales with TOP and The Weeknd instead of focusing on your core audience and building a really solid respectable lineup.

1. They should of booked decent undercard acts with both The Weeknd and Bob Dylans money 2. Agree 3. TOP is the core audience and will have the biggest crowd of the weekend.
I've said it before and ill say it again, it should have been something like
Muse / TOP / Chance The Rapper / Phoenix Flume / Weezer / MGMT / The Shins / 30STM Dillon Francis / Miike Snow / Mac Demarco / RTJ / Portugal. The Man
IMO what firefly really messed up on is that there are number of sub-headliner level acts that Firefly missed out on and it burned them. The fact that none of The XX, Travis Scott, Lorde, Foster the People, Alt-J, Cage the Elephant, Future, The Head and the Heart, Father John Misty are there was Firefly dropping the ball.
in what world are 21P and the Weekend not billed toward the core audience here?
Twenty One Pilots I will give you, but you can't say The Weeknd is FF's core audience when before this year they've only had 1 headliner in the Hip-Hop/R&B family (Outkast).

I agree, still doesn't make sense to me that they didn't get the XX. They are in Europe, come back to the US and play a show at Roo, then they are back in Europe for Glasto the week after FF.
I can understand skipping out on FTP or Cage cause they have already been there twice, but even still, in addition to the names you mentioned, you'd think they could have possibly got MGMT, Mac Demarco, Empire of the Sun, Tycho, Future Islands, etc. How they landed none of these and more is crazy.

I dont know what the asking price for the majority of these bands are, but I cant imagine that its double what Bob Dylan was asking for, right? You pick up The XX, Alt-J, and Lorde instead of Bob Dylan and this festival is light years better
i dont get the beef with Dyaln. in a market thats oversaturated with the same bands i think its cool they brought him in. I imagine more people would rather see him than acts like FJM or the XX who are both boring as hell and overrated to the moon on here.

The xx looked fun as hell live at Coachella. Father John Misty is iffy I'm not sure it's a perfect match for Firefly but the dude can flat out sing and perform, something Dylan lost many years ago.

Another Major Issue with Firefly's lineup - if you look back at a lineup from 4-7 years ago - you should have like 8-10 acts on their that are headliners currently. So basically up and coming acts.
Outside of the headliners, I do not know if ANYONE on Firefly's lineup will ever reach headliner status. Glass Animals maybe? Phantogram (don't get them)? Kaleo (lol)? Rainbow Kitten Surprise or Maggie Rogers as crazy long shots?
Even the respectable acts (Shins, Weezer, Franz Ferdinand) best days are behind them and are just playing the hits.

the problem on here is they arent trying to book toward a group of like 10-15 people on a msg board who have an eclectic taste in music, its not an eclectic fest, its a very simple predominantly mainstream fest. personally, i like some of the randomness they added like Busta, T-Pain, Dylan.

When I look at Bob Dylan on the bill... I get what they were trying to do they just had theoretically so many better options. Maybe they weren't available though who knows.
I'm posting because my band, Honeytiger, is in the top 25 of Firefly's Big Break Live and I was hoping I could get inforoo's firefly crew to help get a fellow inforooer on one of the stages this year.
It is super easy: You'll need to create an account (if you don't already have one) and then go to Contribute Ideas > Contests > Big Break Live and find Honeytiger.
You can vote 1 time every day until April 26th when this round is over. I hope you can help my dreams come true Whether we win or not, I've already got my ticket and I'll see ya there!
We made TOP 10! The voting is back open and goes until this Sunday. Thanks to anyone that voted before and votes today and this weekend. Honeytiger loves you and watches the beautiful shitshow that is the inforoo firefly threads every year.

yeah i feel like for firefly he's not a good fit, i just picture a morrissey 2.0 crowd

ya thats gonna be a no from me. FJM and The XX gave absolutely stellar performances at coachella and i wasnt that excited for either of them.
yea but the stage production at Coachella and general elevated effort artists makes for a fest like Coach is way different than almost any other fest. You wouldnt get to see FJM in the dark most likely either.
