Not to anybody's surprise, but they have told those that need to know that attendance is expected to be significantly down this year. Trying to see if I can get an actual number.
Yea no surprise, I figured on 60k compared to likely 75k last year and 85k in 2015.
Considering the lineup, I think 60k would be a good number for them. Even if a lot of them were free, they still charge a large amount for camping and they get a chunk from concessions, etc..

Hopefully if it's 60k then they will learn their lesson and book a solid lineup from top to bottom. Or at least not make the top 3 or 4 lines the only recognizable names.

Several of the mistakes were just amateur and easily fixable IMO. The font and design of the lineup poster was just depressing looking. It looks like a data sheet you'd print out for your computer. The coloring is dark and just looks like crap. The other mistake was listing all the hub acts on the poster. It only makes the lineup look worse to have 10 lines of acts that almost nobody... even music fanatics... have ever heard of. Granted that probably made little difference in the overall numbers, but those type of things shouldn't happen. Not for a 6th year festival of this size.

The poster for this fest is still one of the most puzzling thinsg about this festival.
Putting acts like Phantogram and Glass Animals as the same size and crappy font as Astro 8000 and Dude Ranch and The Girl at the Rock Show is truly confounding. It just devalues some of your better acts.
Also didn't like them using the headliners own logos in the poster - that's such an EDM festival thing.
edit** whoop just say that Jeremy Jamm posted same thing right before me. Guess that shows how bad the poster truly was lol.

I was more getting at how quickly this lineup drops off and becomes names of bands only a few people know of. You are right about the poster

Yea look at Hangout 2017 poster compared to Firefly 2017. The lineups are pretty comparable, you could argue either being better. But holy shit is the poster for Hangout 100x better. It's just way more visually appealing and exciting.

Every act could be the next Imagine Dragons though

Ugh yea why do they insist on patting themselves on the back for booking them? Aside from them being crap, without looking I would imagine (no pun intended) they played a handful of fests that year. They pretend like it's baseball and they sent out a scout to the middle of nowhere Iowa and signed them to play. Regardless, I would eat my foot if any of those bottom ten lines ever end up putting up album sales like Imagine Dragons.

Might be weird because I am excited to go and see music, hangout at Dogfish Head, etc. but I don't feel as if there is any act on the lineup I am overtly excited to see.

this is ultimately why I bailed this year. As much fun as camping, the woodlands, Dogfish tent, bloody mary's at the hub and everything else is at Firefly - there is just no act this year that really had me so excited. Muse is pretty cool and then just a bunch of indie rock acts that I can see elsewhere.

same, it's basically just a vacation at this point

Yea that's pretty much where I'm at. In order (more or less) I'm looking forward to:
Muse The Shins Weezer Glass Animals Phantogram Franz Ferdinand OK GO The Naked and Famous Lil Dicky Bleachers Strumbellas Nahko and Medicince for the People OAR Rainbow Kitten Surprise Stick Figure
Of those, I can't even see like 3 of them because of conflicts. I have already seen all but a handful of them. Honestly if it wasn't for Muse I wouldn't even justify going. That's the saving grace. I can't justify what this costs with what would have been not a single headliner I look forward to, and no act like M83, Tame Imapala, Beck, Empire of the Sun, Modest Mouse in the sub headliner catergory like in the past. This year, The Shins are really it that is in that are in that classification.
Friday: Foreign Air > Hamish Anderson > Dreamers > Barns Courtney > Bob Moses > Sofi Tukker > Alan Walker > Weezer > Miike Snow > 21p > Flume
Saturday: Rainbow Kitten Surprise > T-Pain > Sunflower Bean > Andy Frasco/Francis & The Lights > The Naked & Famous > Lewis Del Mar > RKS (Coffeehouse) > Galantis > Weeknd > Chance
Sunday: Busta > Saint Wknd > Strumbellas > Hamilton Leithauser > Illenium > Sir Sly > Phantogram > Muse > Dillon Francis

Oh jesus I just realized that if the thunderstorms predicted for Friday cancel the end of the day then Twenty One Pilots is headlining this again in 2018 for sure. Please god no. KOL repeat is one thing, a TOP repeat would ruin me.
*edit* - actually they're free the whole weekend and knowing they're shtick about loving their fans I assume they would stick around and play on Saturday.

The most Firefly thing ever in that situation would be to put them at 2 pm on the Main Stage, the same time they played in 2014

I'd love to see them try to fit them in on Saturday.

Funnier option would be to put them back on the Backyard Stage where they played in 2013...which back then was a tiny stage where the Dogfish tent is now...and let 14 year olds club each other over who gets close up.
We are going to see if the new drainage system from last year really holds up. Would be wise for Firefly to use the few hours of the main stage being open in case of any evacuations/short sets. Friday and Saturday have 2 hours of no one playing on the main stage.
anyone have any fun activities planned during the 21p show? I'd rather not stand around for 90 minutes.
Besides drink.
Dogfish Head tent most likely. They got rid of the Beercade so I'm not really sure what else there will be to do. Maybe there will be something on that mobile stage? Does The Thicket keep going during headliners? I've never done that in the last 5 years lol.

Getting rid of the beercade is idiotic! Interesting that nothing great sport wise will be going on to catch in the Dogfish tent. My wife and I are only going Sunday. This is the only day at a summer festival that we will get to go to. We will definitely go to the Thicket and walk around. Losing the beercade sucks!

One of their "fan curated" things.
From their website
This multi-level bar & patio brings sustainability to the forefront using recycled materials. With yard games, food trucks, and upper level viewing decks to The Lawn and Porch Stages, The Fort is the cool, new hangout in The Woodlands.
Last year they left black bocce balls out near the Brewery after dark and one of my friends tripped over one, hurt their ankle. I hope they either have better lighting or move the lawn games out of walking paths this year, esp by the Brewery where people are drinking lol.
If i remember correctly I think they are going to have a Playstation truck that you can play unreleased games on. Not as cool as the beercade but still better than nothing.
