My best guess at a top line right now would be Muse // 21P // Phoenix // Chance
This seems realistic. I probably won't go if these are the headliners though.
Same. Unless the under card is just ridiculous. It would suck to miss my first FF but we're talking about doing a trip to ACL this year so it wouldn't hurt to save the cash.
The Lumineers are opening U2's Philadelphia concert on the Sunday of Firefly. Given Firefly's love of repeat acts and the fact that they have no tour dates for the other days of Firefly, I'd unfortunately consider them a strong possibility.
Paul McCartney played Firefly. It's a 80-90k festival run by AEG.
I'm not saying U2 is going to play Firefly, but ruling them out because it's Firefly is ludicrous.
I'm ruling them out because: a) it's rumored that U2 is a Bonnaroo exclusive in North America, and b) they're playing a stadium in Philadelphia the Sunday of Firefly. While Paul also played a Philly show the same weekend as Firefly, it should be noted that he was announced for Firefly before that Philly show. Also, these U2 shows are being put on by LiveNation, which is a direct competitor for AEG Live, which owns GoldenVoice, which owns a stake in Firefly.

I think there is a decently large distinction between the circumstances around McCartney playing in 2015, and if U2 would be playing in 2017. This is U2's first festival in North America since 1983. When Firefly got McCartney, he had already done Roo in 2013, then Firefly got him two years later. This opens up the possibility for Firefly to get U2 when they tour for Songs of Experience, but not this year

I'd say Muse is more likely with Panorama releasing and them not being on it. We know they'll be at a number of US festivals this summer and so far none have popped up.

It would be surprising at this point if our #1 wasn't Muse.

If Muse is the number 1 do they get the Macca/Foo Fighters Fri night slot or the Mumford Sun slot?

I still think RHCP are going to be there. The tour dates line up too well, and the festival was much smaller when they last headlined, so I doubt Firefly would think twice about bringing them back.
muse is def #1. pretty sure 21p is #2. I would wager 3 is somebody like Beck, or Phoenix, or even The Chainsmokers
Beck or Polesmokers wouldn't surprise me. Phoenix would. I like them but they are not headliner material to me. Even with a new album out they are no higher than a 5 in my book. I know we all have different tastes and ideas so that's just my 2 cents

I guess I could see RHCP - Muse - 21P, or even with Chance at the #4 but it still doesn't really feel right.

I doubt that. This festival has a little more booking power than Hangout. They're not going to book 21 Pilots as the #2 and someone smaller than Frank Ocean for the #3 act.
As much as this site hates them TOP will move a shit ton of tickets! I'm a fan so I'm slightly biased. They have made the progression to potential headliner of the 2nd tier fests. What could be scary for some is they are probably one hit record away from major fest headliner material!

I like Frank Ocean but I still don't see him as top line material. But then again what the hell do I know? Firefly would probably like to have the Polesmokers on their top line. They had them before their breakout and that was on a Sun night when many had left. Think about all the EDM kids on a Sat night on main stage after TOP!

I think Firefly would hold off on the Chainsmokers on the top line. I have faith they'd book someone like Phoenix instead. Deadmau5 was an exception to an EDM headliner. MAYBE Skrillex on the top line #4, but I think they could have him as #5.
