I think Firefly would hold off on the Chainsmokers on the top line. I have faith they'd book someone like Phoenix instead. Deadmau5 was an exception to an EDM headliner. MAYBE Skrillex on the top line #4, but I think they could have him as #5.
Oh i could definitely see The Chainsmokers as the #4 on the top line. Firefly and them have a good relationship, as they were rained out and agreed to play the next day.
Honestly as long as the Top 3 are strong - let the kids have whatever beep boop they want at Number 4 as a "headliner".

I still choose to believe Firefly has what it takes to pull an impressive lineup - so here goes my mock before they crush my dreams and Twenty One Pilots headlines all 4 nights:
Pearl Jam ~ Muse ~ Chance the Rapper ~ The Chainsmokers The National ~ ShitzyPopEdm ~ John Mayer ~ HAIM ~ The Offspring Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds ~ Blood Orange ~ St Vincent ~ Akon Brandon Flowers ~ The War on Drugs ~ Lynryd Skynrd ~ EDM of some sort

so you are guessing firefly has the best lineup of the year?
don't get me wrong, bring that on, but talk about shooting for the moon with the depressing bunch of line-ups that have been released

Yeah this is definitely a little farfetched - but who knows - last year Wayhome came out of nowhere and booked one of the best lineups. Firefly is twice the size, raised prices and definitely has the $$ and they're not afraid to book poppier albeit cheesier names like The Offspring and John Mayer.
Also - if they're going to make a big deal about being "The fan-curated festival" then go all out to book the band that has been #1 in the survey for like 4 years (Pearl Jam). Next year is PJ25 so they'll definitely be active.

My fav part is the chainsmokers are listed and then under that two slots is shitty pop edm as if they aren't one in the same?

Oh they are, but I could at least name The Chainsmokers because of the song Closer. I couldn't think of a second line edm/pop act. Flume I guess?

I forget has Soundgarden been brought up as a potential headliner? They fit the target demographic perfectly, and they're doing the circuit this summer. something like Muse/Soundgarden/ 21 Pilots/Chance makes sense to me. That shouldn't ruffle any feathers, it's not particularly inspired, but I'd be down with 3 of the 4 of those.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside
So does Chance playing Govball make him more or less likely for Firefly? I know he gets a lotta hate on this site but I would much rather see him than TOP or Chainsmokers. Again this is coming from a huge chance fan.

I don't think it makes a difference one way or another. Although it should be noted Outkast is the only headliner Gov Ball and Firefly have ever shared the same year.

Where did you get the idea that Chance gets a lot of hate on this site? Most people on Inforoo adore Chance.
But to answer your question, if he's headlining Gov Ball, that should make him less likely for Firefly. The only headliner they've ever shared is Outkast, and that was a special exception considering it was their reunion tour.

What would Muse - RHCP - 21P - Chance the Rapper actually cost? Would that be more than the typical Firefly headliners? That has to be significantly more than the quartet we had last year right?

Fri - RHCP Sat- Chance>21P Sun- Muse
Don't think it would be that much more than RHCP/Tom Petty, Foo Fighters/Outkast, Paul McCartney
Someone on Reddit posted a rumor that 3OH3! will be playing.
In preparation for a worst case scenario, what's the weakest (realistic - no KOL) Firefly we can think of?
It has to include Twenty One Pilots and Lumineers, right?
I don't see Firefly going weak. They can't really afford to! This could be the year they move up if they book solid. If they get Muse it puts them on a new level. Been going to Roo and FF since 2013 and for them to grab Foo- Macca- Mumford/Florence followed by craptastic lineup would be BAD for them!
Muse - Twenty One Pilots - LCD Soundsystem - The Chainsmokers
I don't see LCD being here. The target demographic for this festival probably has never heard of LCD.
I think if you put Muse on Friday, Twenty One Pilots on Sunday, and LCD and Chainsmokers as the Saturday headliners, it could make some sense. After all, this festival has had Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, Outkast, and McCartney headline. They seem to be willing to go a bit out of their Demographic

Petty and Johnson was during their first big jump year. I think your LCD/Polesmokers could work and would be a good call. TOP playing on sunday night would keep a lot of young people their for the whole weekend.

21P would be Saturday. There's no way they would end the festival with them. They have to be smart enough to know a lot of people would leave early and they'd lose unnecessary money.

TOP I think even on a Sunday night would pull 40k people. They headlined Sat night at Music Midtown and had easily 30-40k there.
