a top line of Muse - TOP - Maroon 5 - Chainsmokers would have me selling running in the opposite direction.
But ya Mayer is for sure a headliner, he was billed above Jack White at Music Midtown a few years ago, and i'm pretty sure he has a new album dropping.
Can we go back to talking about bands that we want to play, but won't actually make the lineup.
Sure! May I present to you my beautifully designed, never-going-to-happen mock lineup! It's a little short on names but just imagine the rest filled in with EDM and pop that I don't know.
Haha fun mock. I laughed at Goo Goo Dolls and Darius Rucker (both amphitheater headliners who are out of place - yet I could totally see performing - at Firefly). Ryan Adams would be a 3rd liner, and Young Thug is a 4th liner at worst. Mitski won't be there since she'll be in Germany. Still, I'd rather have this than the damn Twenty One Pilots and Imagine Dragons fest we'll probably get.

Gotta think The xx are in play for this. Primavera first weekend in June, then back to the US for Bonnaroo. They're open rest of June, and then back to Europe in July. No way they go EU-USA-EU with only one show in the US.
Edit - looks like it's a long string of US, then EU for one stop at Primavera, then Roo. So who knows

It's almost a given that they'll be at Glastonbury, so it could go either way. They could spend another weekend in the states and hit up Firefly, or they could go back to Europe and play another Euro fest before Glastonbury.

They'd be at lowest a 4, right? They'd kill the late night main stage slot Deadmau5 had.

Not necessarily. They're 5th at Boston Calling and 8th at Bonnaroo. So probably somewhere in that 5-8 range.

They're 5 at Boston Calling and 8 at bonnaroo...so I think they'd fall in between 5-7. Give them the Disclosure spot (post headliner, backyard stage) and it would be incredible.

Forgot about their billing at Bonnaroo. Lawn sub ala M83/1975/Tame would work too. It's usually fully dark by that time.

I still really think Firefly gets a legacy headliner for this (every odd year). So I ranked the possible headliners from most possible to least possible (slow work day).
1. Billy Joel 2. Pearl Jam 3. Neil Young 4. Stevie Wonder 5. Metallica 6. Tom Petty 7. Dead & Co 8. Dave Matthews Band (if you consider that a legacy) 9. The Who 10. Roger Waters 11. Bruce Springsteen 12. Rolling Stones 13. Fleetwood Mac
Elton John and GNR are in Europe and Depeche Mode doesn't really fit.

1. Billy Joel 2. Pearl Jam 3. Neil Young - Firefly would never make him the #1. 4. Stevie Wonder 5. Metallica 6. Tom Petty -Would be very excited about 7. Dead & Co 8. Dave Matthews Band (if you consider that a legacy) 9. The Who - Pls no. Most overrated band IMO. 10. Roger Waters 11. Bruce Springsteen - Should be a lot higher considering he was the replacement for if Macca dropped out in '15 12. Rolling Stones 13. Fleetwood Mac

Why forget bonnaroo billing? They match up almost identically. 2016:
Ellie Goulding: Roo=5, FF=5 Tame Impala: Roo=7th, FF=10th Death Cab: Roo=8th, FF=9th M83: Roo: Roo=9th, FF=10th

DMB are not touring this year. Dave & Tim are though. I can't see them being at this festival though.

can't see metallica either. also think bruce has a solo album coming out soon, and e street's taking a break until '18
I still can't see it being anything but Muse - 21P - whatever
Muse ~ 21P ~ LCD could salvage it for me.
If they go straight to Chance or Childish with that 3 slot that would push me to buying a Muse day pass and not a full weekend.
Imagine Dragons in the top 4 is an automatic boycott from me. Worst Firefly show I've ever been to. Luckily they're in Europe the following week which I hope keeps them away.

You missed out. Grouplove did a set in the coffee house right when Imagine Dragons played (IIRC). Grouplove gets some hate on this board, but that was a really really fun time.

That's more like it.
I would honestly be perfectly ok with Steve Miller Band being a #4 (or #3 depending on the rest of the lineup). Esp considering the other possibilities. This would be my personal/mostly realistic hope:
Muse - The Strokes - 21P - Steve Miller Band
That would be awesome honestly.
Fri- Muse Sat- Steve Miller Band>21P (SMB is really scheduled for a traditional preheadliner slot 8-930PM) Sun- The Strokes

Interesting. I wonder if having 21P on the top line does enough for the teens/youngpeople demo that they can do something different with the 4 spot instead of EDM.

i dont see them having edm in the top 4 again unless its skrillex, who doesn't seem to be doing US fests this year.

I think so. Especially if you can expand it that includes all the EDM that people would want:
Muse - The Strokes - 21P - Steve Miller Band The Lumineers - Incubus - Flume - Schoolboy Q - Sigur Ros - Dillon Francis Phantogram- Knife Party - The Offspring - Glass Animals - Beach House St. Paul and the Broken Bones - Lil Dicky - ZHU - Sleigh Bells - SOJA - Busta Ryhmes (?)
Do people think Dead and Co. would really play this? Outside of the poor fit, they have shows Thursday/Saturday/Sunday. While Friday is feasibly possible, these guys just don't play four straight nights anymore.
