I'm probably going to convince myself to do this again. It's going to be tougher this year than any year before though. It's like they used an automated name generator for the last 50 names.

Also, sorry to double post here, but at one point I saw someone post a spreadsheet with all the relevant US festivals. Does anyone know where that is/have a link
Bonnaroo and Firefly side by side, taken from the Bonnaroo subreddit
Seeing them side-by-side I think shows where Firefly went wrong. They seem to be obsessed with cheesy throwbacks instead of focusing on up and coming alt-rock artists. T-Pain would have been enough. You don't need T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, Kesha, OAR, Wale, 30 Seconds from Mars, Ok Go.
It's just bad that Firefly chose those acts instead of The xx, Milky Chance, Portugal the Man, The Front Bottoms, Young the Giant, Royal Blood. Or else the lineup will look even worse in 5 years.
i dont know why you think FF chose not to have those acts. you have no idea if there was mutual interest or reasons why they were not booked. Personally id rathersee Wale, Busta, T Pain, 30 Secs to Mars over everyone you named save Royal Blood and P The Man.

4. Depression: Firefly is over. Bonnaroo is over. Festivals are over. Everything is over. I'm over.
5. Acceptance: Thank you for being my first festival. I will pass you onto the children now. Next year, when Steve from Blues Clues closes out the Backyard stage, while the Wiggles bring down the main stage, I will know I made the right choice.
You are not alone!!!!!!!!
At least you got it all at once. I made the mistake of watching the video lineup first, thought it would be a cool reveal. Slow torture by reveal:
1. Flume begins to play - Okay, if this is our big ticket EDM, which was inevitable, I can live with that, Flume's not bad.
2. Twenty One Pilots gets like a 20 second love party - Inevitable. Jesus Firefly loves these guys. My god.
3. The Shins appear - YES. OKAY HERE WE GO!!!
4. Cashmere Cat - Don't know what that is. Just shake it off.
5. The Strumbellas - Confusion. They get their own reveal? There basically a Lumineers cover band. They played for free last year on a Pier in NYC.
6. Weezer Fan Choice - OKAY. Not very inspired but I like it. We're back on track
7. Kesha reveal and song plays - Oh god. It's going off the rails
8. Bunch of nothing
9. Chance the Rapper reveal - Fine. Good. But we're halfway through this video and nothing surprisingly good yet.
10. Miike Snow - Good. Makes up for the F*(king White Panda getting another shout out I DONT CARE IF THEY MADE THE VIDEO
11. Muse - at least theres the anchor, now it's time for the big reveal at the end for the #1
12. Thirty Seconds for Mars - F*CKKKKKKK. God dammit. Panic is now setting in. There's only 45 seconds left in this video.
13. THEY PLAY ANOTHER TWENTY ONE PILOTS SONG JESUS DO THEY HAVE 2 SETS OR SOMETHING?
The consequences might not be worth it but I might go to 21 pilots and try to get close just so I can throw garbage at them. I think it's a dick move, but those assholes need to be stopped.
Granted, even managing to peg one of those douches with a half empty water bottle won't change anything, but at least they'll know someone out there sees through their shit.
I mean, Nickleback got stoned off stage, would it really be that out of line?
I honestly woke up this morning expecting to have to defend this Lineup. I have gone to the past 3 Firefly's and thought they have done a pretty good job. Some have certainly been better than others, but each have had at 15-20 acts that I was excited to see with a number more that I could get down with after listening. This year I counted 8
Take a listen through the Spotify playlist. This is a departure for this festival for sure, but I think the people who will go this year are the ones really looking to not just be entertained by bands they are already familiar with, but also by some they have no idea about. I'm okay with there being critics every year. I think a lineup like this makes people do a little more research and really get into the music. Back in 2012 we had Imagine Dragons on the dead last line of the poster and they went on to blow up. I think this year they're looking to do that, but on a bigger scale. Are there bands I'd want to see that didn't make it? Sure, but I'm okay with that. But for the so called music purists who post on these pages and elsewhere, this could be a pretty great opportunity to see some great music you didn't even know you liked.

Maybe the next Imagine Dragons is on the lineup, you guys.
I think it's pretty clear that Dude Ranch and the Girl At the Rock show are set to blow up big time. They're gonna be huge. Next imagine dragons, I guarantee it.
I honestly feel bad for mike g and how he has to try to defend this lineup to people. It's his job, I get it so I understand his posts and I know he's a good guy, but fuck trying to defend this would make me an alcoholic
Besides Macca in 2015, I don't see how this is any different (or worse) than what this festival has put out.
It's always been an alt-rock festival with some nostalgia thrown in at it's heart.
Muse, The Shins, Weezer, Bob Dylan. That's what Firefly built it's brand on.
The Weeknd at Number 1 is insane and quite frankly, it was really dumb. I understand it was probably a last minute scramble, but it's reallyyyyy going to piss off a lot of the dedicated fan base of people.
Totally agree. The Killers, RHCP, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney.... and then the motherfucking Weeknd? Fuck that.

One of your headliners is fucking Twenty One Pilots and you're bitching about The Weeknd?

so why did they make the weeknd #1? he obviously doesnt demand that billing as hes a 3 at bonnaroo, and the customers of FFhave become accustomed to alternative/rock as the number one artist on the bill. just doesn't make sense to me.

To pay $300+ to "discover the next big thing" is pretty insulting.
But that aside, be honest here: is the backlash bigger this time around? People appear to be more disappointed

I'm sure I will find some really neat new artists. But its frustrating to see the festival focus so heavily on these throwback artists like T-Pain and neglect the alt-rock that I feel attracted a lot of people who regularly attended the festival

it took 95 pages but we fond the worst post of the thread.

I've been to Firefly every year and I'm sure I'll have fun this year so I don't want to come off as Firefly basher like some people on this website. I don't even want to complain about the lineup choices because that's all subjective to who is looking at it. And please don't think it is directed at you, I know you don't book the bands.
We can look at bands like Imagine Dragons in 2012 and Twenty One Pilots and Chrvches in 2013 and see where they are now. The difference is that there was plenty of acts in the mid-card to support them. Every festival should have acts at the bottom with potential, and I'm sure there will be a few in this lineup that will end up being pretty big. The issue is that there is very little support for those acts. Who's going to roll out of their campsite at 1:30 to see these acts when they can stay and get shitfaced on cheap beer and get ready for Twenty One Pilots. When they finally do come in, how are these small acts going to pull them away from the Backyard and Lawn Stages that can't support crowds that size.
How can Firefly call itself a "Fan Curated Lineup" and then book a lineup that literally can't be because nobody has heard of 70% of the bands. That's where the frustration comes in.

The Weeknd is arguably the hottest and most in demand artist out right now. And as far as a radio friendly pop headliner goes, it doesnt get much better.
Y'all just need to accept that. If this were 2-4 years ago, y'all would all be shitting yourself over having The Weeknd play Firefly
