I think the big question is how did booking Bob Dylan come about? That seems extremely rare for a non-Desert Trip type festival.
"Bob Dylan, more than other legendary acts, has been in the top 10 on our fan surveys for years now. When it comes to booking an act of his caliber, it’s all about the stars aligning. The pieces fell into place this year and we’re thrilled to get him to The Woodlands."
The Weeknd is arguably the hottest and most in demand artist out right now. And as far as a radio friendly pop headliner goes, it doesnt get much better.
Y'all just need to accept that. If this were 2-4 years ago, y'all would all be shitting yourself over having The Weeknd play Firefly
Except that 2-4 years ago, The Weeknd's setlists were uniformly excellent...
so why did they make the weeknd #1? he obviously doesnt demand that billing as hes a 3 at bonnaroo, and the customers of FFhave become accustomed to alternative/rock as the number one artist on the bill. just doesn't make sense to me.
Because he's a bigger draw than the other four headliners.....

He's #3 at Roo because Bonanroo booked 2 of the biggest rock/alternative bands of all-time ahead of him.

And now he has more hits and tracks with Daft Punk and all the sudden you hate him?
I hope the Livenation interns are taking notes on how to defend the 2018 Bonnaroo lineup.
"One of those bottom line acts could turn out to be the next Getter! The next Borgore! There might even be the next Jon Bellion right within your fingertips - tickets are going fast!"

Hate is a strong word, but he started making music for the lowest common denominator. Go listen to Trilogy, Kiss Land, and his 2014 loosies, and you'll notice the decline in quality since then.

Weeknd puts on a great live show by all accounts and has some good tracks. Seeing him as the #1 is a bit of a let down if you had high expectations. But he isn't why this lineup is lacking. In my opinion anyway. I see a lot of people saying he just doesn't fit in with Firefly because usually a rock act is #1.

not at all. TOP are easily going to move the most tickets, and firefly hasnt typically gone after none alternative acts as their #1. i just dont think it will help them for how huge of a price tag the weeknd is.

This is exactly how people have been defending the Bonnaroo lineup already.
I'm surprised they booked The Weeknd and Chance. I would have never thought Firefly to have both in the top line honestly.
Someone do a mock for me so I can look at how this would play out. Maybe it will look better that way?
i think the schedule could be different from last year. the fact that theres 5 headliners and soooo many tiny acts could mean they plan on fully utilizing thursday.
This lineup is awful. No doubt about it. Twenty One Pilots are garbage, and it is an insult to have so many no-names filling the bottom half. They're trying too hard, and they're aiming at kids way out of our (my, at least) demographic.
That being said, I'm going with my crew of 20+ and having fun. I'm excited for Miike Snow, Franz Ferdinand, Phantogram, Sunflower Bean, Hamilton Leithauser, and at least 5-6 more. I've enjoyed plenty of fests for the music; this time I'll just enjoy the experience.

Firefly is always an option being that I live in PA. I really just am at awe of this lineup. Not to sound like the old fart I'm probably turning into, but I seriously haven't heard of a single act other than a few artists passed the 5th line. It looks like they just tried to make the lineup huge in hopes that someone has a break out year and they get lucky.
Not that it much matters but even some of the bottom acts have less than 1000 likes on their FB pages. Like I've been in crappy bands all my life and I've managed to get at least a 1000 likes. How do you actually get booked by a major festival? LOL
And now he has more hits and tracks with Daft Punk and all the sudden you hate him?

Oh trust me, I've been listening to The Weeknd since back when he was only a Soundcloud artist and no one knew what he looked like.
Sure, his new stuff is a little over-produced, but my point still stands that as far as radio friendly pop headliners goes, he's without a debt one of your best options and he's an incredible pull for the festival.
The consequences might not be worth it but I might go to 21 pilots and try to get close just so I can throw garbage at them. I think it's a dick move, but those assholes need to be stopped.
Granted, even managing to peg one of those douches with a half empty water bottle won't change anything, but at least they'll know someone out there sees through their shit.
I mean, Nickleback got stoned off stage, would it really be that out of line?

Sure, I won't deny that it's a good booking and that Abel's live show will be a lot of fun. Shame that Firefly won't get a setlist like on the KOTF arena tour. Yes, I'm salty I never got to see him live during that era.
But hope that everybody from here that goes will like it nonetheless.
