I was 1 when Hybrid Theory came out but I do remember Minutes to Midnight fairly well. That album had a lot of songs my brothers played a lot and even though I haven't listened to them in a while, I always had a good bit of respect for them. Any band that has to deal with the hate they got and still continue to do their thing is admirable to me.

One of the first bands I really loved. After the first two albums I drifted from their music because they became annoying. Never saw them live. Very bummed. The bands in middle school I loved are dropping like flies.

Damn, like many others this was one of the first bands when I started branching out past what my parents were playing. Their first two albums are near and dear to me. Never got to see them either and was planning on catching them to fulfill some childhood nostalgia. My thoughts go out to his family, so sad.
Your responses just make me feel old. That is all.
I'm 35 so Linkin Park was JUST barely after my time, but I think we all had that band. Maybe we didn't carry them with us into our twenties, but that shit meant a lot as teenagers.
I'm looking at you Korn. Jon Davis you stay healthy, I'll buy a ticket next time you play the Missisippi Coast Colosseum.

I turned 16 in 2000. Young Jones could be found in his tan Ford Probe, cruising the city to Issues/Follow the Leader or Hybrid Theory. Was definitely more of a Limp Bizkit guy than LP though. They weren't even in my top 50 CD's if I'm being perfectly honest.

Will you though?
I actually might. I've seen Korn live a couple times in my thirties, had a good time.

Yeah, this is a sad one. Hybrid Theory came out when I was in 8th grade and it exploded when I was in 9th... pretty much all of my friends had the album, myself included. But, as quick as I got into that, I was out of it as this was right around the time that I discovered Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Skinny Puppy, King Crimson... the stuff that really shaped my musical tastes to this very day. I didn't listen to anything of theirs after Hybrid Theory, but since there has been this new modern rock station in town, I'll listen to that station from time to time. In doing so I was hearing tracks from their follow up sophomore album and I legit find some merit to this stuff, such as great engineering and production. Still does nothing for me on a substantial level, but it was clearly head and shoulders above what was being pumped out on alt rock radio at the time, and today as well.
He at least seemed somewhat more self-aware than his bandmates:
“When we made Hybrid Theory, I was the oldest guy in the band and in my early ’20s. That’s why I guess I’m like: ‘Why are we still talking about Hybrid Theory? It’s fucking years ago. It’s a great record, we love it. Like, move the fuck on.’ You know what I mean?”
If Bennington sounds extra peeved, though, it might be because the release of “Heavy,” which features new electropop singer Kiiara, is being met with accusations of selling out, just because the band is now working with electropop singers. His remarks for those folks are a bit more severe: “If you’re saying we’re doing what we’re doing for a commercial or monetary reason, trying to make success out of some formula...then stab yourself in the face!” Don’t worry, he laughed while he said that last part.

Sounds like Cornell getting flack for his Timbaland collaboration. He really wanted to emulate him!

Same story. Loved the first few albums up but wasn't at an age to regularly attend shows. Im really bummed to say Ive never seen them live. Depression is a fucking bitch.

It boggles my mind to accuse a band of selling out when they've had platinum hits from almost 2 decades ago. Let them do what the fuck they want. Theyve been commercial and making money their entire existence.

I never was a fan of Linkin Park at all (i now feel guilty for hating on them in the past) but depression sucks as we all know and it's super sad how his life ended and that he left behind 6 kids. Hybrid Theory was the one album of their's that i've ever listened to all the way through. My immediate thought when i found out, was that he sang Hallelujah at Chris Cornell's funeral, and died on Cornell's birthday.

I always wanted LP on the farm as a nostalgiact, like 3EB but obviously much bigger, maybe a late night. If they had something more appealing than MGK supporting them on this tour, I may have tried to go, but it would have been too late.
I was really into them when I was 11 and Hybrid Theory was huge, but by Meteora I had moved on to NIN and Tool and such. I do agree that Meteora was probably the better album of the two overall, looking back. Both had good songs.
The utmost saddest thing is that Linkin Park's entire catalog and more specifically, and the entire context Chester's lyrical content is what led to his decision.
In other words, depression and addiction is so fucking evil and difficult that being in multi-platinum award-winning, stadium touring, Jay-z collaborating band isn't enough to drown own the demons that which you sang about for +20 years to overcome.
My point is, depression is hard...don't ever tell someone to "just get over it."

Someone at work said "what a loser" when they found out, and that stung. Like that's what you say when someone likes shitty music or something, not when someone has been overwhelmed dealing with their own demons that you'll never truly understand.
