I've seen Tom so many times with so many friends. His songs make up most of what I can play. Like losing a friend. I was on front row for Hangout show and changed my avatar to him in tribute. Rest in peace my friend.
It wasn't official before, he was on life support. But his manager just confirmed that Tom Petty has indeed passed away. So, so sad. Dancing barefoot in the rain at his set, and also my first Roo (2013) is one of my favorite Roo memories.
Still so sad about this one. They were playing what sounded like that Bonnaroo clip on NPR this morning - was it featured in his 07 documentary, Running Down A Dream? - and I teared up again.
I only saw them once and have never been a huge fan but they were a Canadian institution and the setting was pretty epic in scope (warning: topless girls in this video):

I’ve watched this show start to finish twice tonight. So heartbroken; even if it was expected. Everywhere I went today people were talking about Gord Downie.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

Yeah, I have two Canadian stations programmed in my car and they both seemed to be playing only Hip tunes and related anecdotes yesterday.
I've been trying to come up with an equivalent American band in terms of popularity and an innate America-ness and I can't. There are some solo or quasi-solo acts but not really bands. It's truly remarkable, their legacy.
I know that I started this thread but I seriously dread it every time I see a new post is here.
I love Guillaume. I grew up on Soap and then later Benson. Enjoyed him in Seems Like Old Times and Big Fish. The Lion King! With a young daughter, I probably watch some part of it almost daily these days.
I'll always remember him most fondly from Sports Night, though. Watching him come back from a mid-season stroke was inspiring and he was the moral core of that show.

Vieux, you consistently seem to be the bearer of sad news on this thread. How is it that you are always the first person to know about these deaths?
What I'm asking you is: are you killing all these people?
Well, I was the killer at the dinner murder mystery party I went to last night. Seriously, I work for a magazine, am constantly scouring the internet and I guess it is my thing. I also announced that Michael Jackson had died before it was announced for real. I think I have found my calling. It isn't a good calling.
Poor guy was reported as dead during Katrina, right?
I'm not terribly familiar with his music, at least on command, but I can still hear his distinctive voice. RIP
I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill? Walking to New Orleans? Rose Mary? Don't Come Knockin?
Maybe it's just from being here, but those are all pretty well known. I went to grammar school with one of his grandkids. I think the last name is actually Domio but he went by Domino.

That's too bad. I saw him when he was singing for Bad Brains. It's not nice to speak ill of the dead so I'll just say that We Care A Lot is a cool song.
