Bun B came out with the festival organizer last year, before Flying Lotus, to speak to the crowd. They talked about the success of the first year and plans for the future. Bun was impressed with Death Grips, who had just played. The crowd then helped Bun with his Christmas card by dabbing in the background. Seems like half of them dabbed in the opposite direction they were asked, but it was fun. Bun also came out with RTJ at ACL, so I'd expect him to show up for that set. I also thought for a minute FlyLo was going to get arrested as he puffed on blunts and played his mix of Travis Scott's Antidote as the police looked on from the side of the stage. Good times. .
No doubt they will be bringing out a local Houston rapper to do something or other.
both times ive seen RTJ in Houston (though one time was El-P and Killer Mike solo before they were RTJ) Mike has brought out Bun B to do "Big Beast". Considering Bun B will be tehre I'm pretty certain that'll happen
Great. I haven't seen any of the Houston rappers. Bun was recently in town but it was a giant bill at the UNO Arena on a night between GRiZ and Mac Sabbath, and I just couldn't do it. That lineup of Welcome to Houston has about 7 rappers on my want to see list.
16 acre site tells me that more than one stage will probably be outside. I'd guess two or three of them unless they dedicate one of the 5 floors (not sure if it has a basement but it does have a "ground floor" and 5 up) to a stage. Bjork's digital set is going to take up 8 rooms, so I'd guess that's a floor in and to itself.
They also mentioned a bomb shelter that was built into this site in a previous interview, so I'm assuming there is a basement. Idk if they'll use it, but the organizers seemed excited about it, so I'm sure they'll try to work it in. My guess is mostly light installations & Bjorks set on the inside and stages outside. Some light installations will be outside too, last year there were at least 3 installations that were projected onto the sides of buildings.
Also just noticed/realized that Win Bulter of Arcade Fire AKA DJ Windows 98 is only scheduled for the kick-off party on Friday night, from 9-12, so I guess he's DJing basically most of the thing?

watching this clip of the butthole surfers at lollapalooza in 1991.
hate to be this guy, but when i watch a video like this, and hear the music, and see how crazy the crowd is, it does make me think that rock and roll as an art form reached it's peak in the early nineties and has been on a slow decline ever since.

Postjack- I'm glad you posted that Lolla vid! That is one of my favorite videos of the Surfers to show people when trying to explain what they are about. I am 100% with you on the perception of rock being in decline. Young people are just weak as fuck now, as a group. When you look at the crowd in that vid people are losing their shit going crazy.
I'm glad I caught the tail end of that kind of attitude towards the live music experience in the late 90's. Obv night and day (ah) difference from the late 80's/early 90's but people were def more into it.
Been listening to Surfers almost nonstop the past few weeks, with Ariel Pink thrown in here and there. The first time I saw them at One Eyed Jacks in 2008 during Voodoo I didn't really know what I was in for. Second time was at House of Blues in '09 and the venue def kept things from getting out of hand. Now that I know their music 100x better I'm beyond stoked about seeing them again. Crazy that it's been over seven years.
If you're looking for lively rock crowds, SOS had crowd surfing and moshing and almost all its rock acts that I saw. Not much dancing, but plenty of people being tossed around.

Lively rock crowds showed up best at Woodstock 1994 at Primus. Scan through some of this and see what the world used to look like. Massive slamming circles/mosh pits, etc. The metalheads and later the alternative fans borrowed all this and stage diving and catapulting from the US Hardcore era of the early-mid 1980's.
So unless any of you think I am severely brain damaged or completely ignorant to miss another show on the lineup, I have it:
Saturday Welcome to Houston > Thundrecat > Jesus & Mary Chain/From Beyond > Blood Orange/Odesza > Daughters > Fat Tony > Aphex Twin > Run the Jewels > Aphex Twin
Sunday Nothing/Daed > S U R V I V E/Ariel Pink > Uncle Acid & Deadbeats > Lightning Bolt > Anklepants/Blonde Redhead > Kamasi Washington > RZA > Squarepusher/Unknown Mortal Orchestra > Butthole Surfers > Bjork Digital
Unknown TBA artist from 8-9PM on the Blue stage Saturday, wonder if someone dropped out or they're just adding a new spot.
Looking back at American Hero Ken Bone's patched-together schedule, it appears that Washed Out is the one who has backed Out from that spot. Confirmed by not finding him on the line-up anymore. My girlfriend will be disappointed.
Yep. I am fine with splitting most of the other conflicts, but those 2 acts are really hard to see, have never seen either before, and I want to see all of both.
