I hate all of you right now. I hope you all have an amazing time, and I'm super happy with the snaps I've seen so far from the few of you I have on snapchat, but I hate all of you.

Judging by the crowd for Chelsea Wolfe right now, attendance has at least doubled. There were large crowd's just walking over here and I can't remember seeing this many people at an early show last year.

Yeah I'm very surprised by how many people are at Chelsea right now. But the awesome thing is that it is super easy to get up close. People aren't being pushy and are being very respectful of personal space.

People left huge comfort gaps.So much space. This was not the case at Clams Casino.
If anyone happens to see an unreleased white label Aphex Twin LP at the merch table, I'd love to have it...... Take care of ya on top for your troubles toooo.......
Standing here waiting in one of these crazy long food truck lines. It's pretty unbelievable how packed it is at this year compared to last year's. I suppose authenticity and really rare headliners can do that. I remember going into the Blue Stage for Deru and people literally sitting and laying down like it was an opium den, it was so scarce and chill. Not so during a Clams Casino, it was heading towards a legit rave, which I'm sure is by design.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Stage might as well be Pluto, it is so out of the way in the back dock area, with only one access point. It was like a free local show vibe during From Beyond, so few people, the rail wasn't even covered. Such a crazy contrast from the rest of the property.
Going through the first floor art installs, I'd say they're better than last year's warehouse gallery, and I still have the second floor to go to.
Heading to get as good of a spot I can get for Tycho, full set, then ODESZA finale, back to Blue for some J.C., then we'll see what insanity happens with the Aphex Twin.
I'll fix this later, but here is the early report on about roughly 2.5 gallons of beer. \m/
Got in and found merch. Grabbed a D4N hoodie. Hit the Bjork concierge and got shit straight. Hit Burger Joint for a burger and fries. Next in line behind me is The Boss [tm] Slim Thug. I went and paid my respects. Haha. He had this bad ass "Boss" square medallion that was about a quarter inch thick of solid gold. Haha. Bun B was there and Paul Wall. I went and told him what's up and got the food.
Welcome to Houston comes on. Lots of greatness. Devin came out flying his camera drone for his part. He was third up and finished with Doobie Ashtray. Mike Jones (who?) came out and got his props. Then Slim Thug came up then and did like 2 songs (Run and Still Tippin w/ Paul and Mike Jones) and then stayed up for a while with Mike Jones and Paul Wall. Lil Flip came out and killed that shit and he stayed out with Bun B and some of Z-Ro. Absolute greatness.
So we went to the back of Chelsea Wolfe for a few minutes. Her band was great. It was pretty dark. I then went to Thundercat for 15. He and his band sounded better than ever. I was loving the fusion. He sang a couple of tunes as well. We had to split to go check in for Bjork VR.
Okay so this shit is crazy. Sequence could be off due to beer consumption, but it somewhat goEs like this. You walk into a room with VR headsets and headphones. They have these barstool seats with swivel chairs that spin so you can view 360. First room was Bjork singing along an Oceanside landscape. Next room was the crazy "Ghost" film. That was an early favorite. She did a cave/tunnel song. Then we hit the VR from her mouth song and another film. Then they had this stand up higher tech shit. This room was fn unreal. They gave you this trigger thing that showed up in your VR as a blue hand. If you held the trigger it streamed this pink banner/ line that you could interact with Bjork. So it's kind of a vagina "slit" thing but it later turns out to be a cut in her chest as access to her heart. She morphs into a moth. This is crazy great. Next she's sort of a translucent shell of her moth character and fades out. So I'm at mindblow level. Next is a room with iPads. They have this kind of rotating 3D constellation menu that when you click on a specific point a program she also wrote comes up. Some were sequencers where how many of your fingers were on the screen and at what distance they were would play notes. Others had color swipes. Fucking new level. It's actually free for Android and iPhone but I can't remember the name at the moment. I'll get that corrected in the next few days. More to come
Next room is floor pillows and a large screen projection of bjork videos. One of the crew had to whiz bad so we couldn't stay long though you could have chilled in there as long as you wanted to. Only knock on Bjork VR was some of the blue stage pulse was overriding the headphones. I could mentally tune it out but maybe that could have been on a different floor? Before I go any further, Lil Flip had the H Town white cup. Cup inside a mf cup. Bigbow. Lots of throw up all day for Houstons dearly departed like Screw, Pimp C and others.
Lines for the bathroom and bar that point took a while. So we missed From Beyond which was disappointing. Shit happens. Got a few minutes toward the end of Oneohtrix Point Never. Was great. Some guitar sounds scratched into long scratch sounds. Hard to explain, but industrial I guess. Next was back inside to the blue stage for Tycho (live). Set was awesome. It's what I wanted. I went to a couple Fat Tony songs. He opened with a little of Hood Party but then sort of mixed underground and soul. We made it over to run the Jewels. It was still hot but the front came through during this set. Opened with the first 2 songs off RTJ1 and then mixed in some 2, new shit and back to Sea Legs and other great RTJ classics. We went and watched a few minutes of Aphex Twin but some people, not me, were cold. So my ride got us back to the car.
Fun ass day. Lots of incredible shit. I'm leaving out endless other shit like running into Sarge, JGW76 and even festival owner Omar Afra early in the day.
Tomorrow will be good. I'll try to get more (in)coherent shit up then.

Also Clams Casino kinda sucked (admittedly only stayed for 3 songs). RTJ was, well, RTJ. Odesza was, well, Odesza. Chelsea Wolfe and Thundercat exceeded expectations. Blood Orange was good but wish I could have stayed longer. Tycho was great. BANKS was meh imo. Nick Murphy I really enjoyed, but i'm a big fan.
Fucking incredible!!!!! Blew away all of my expectations! Check the FS Snapchat/Instagram story for more.
Rothric and FuzzyWarbles and I were right in front of Umbrella Man for a while! He very much came in handy during the downpour. But then, by the end of the show, we had made it to rail. Holy fucking god. Words can't express how amazing. Will try again tomorrow but I really don't know how to describe in words how much I loved it.

Aphex Twin was one of the most intense, demanding onslaughts of sound that I've experienced in quite a long time.
Show blew my expectations out of the water.
He kept bouncing between genres from acid house to break beat to some drum and bass and then into whatever else tickled his fancy.
When that front blew through, holy shit did the energy change. Aphex Twin fed on that and kept pummeling us.
Rummy, Fuzzy and myself ended up 1 person from the rail by the time Aphex was done. He seemed pretty thankful to the crowd, came out and gave us a thumbs up after the show. He was hidden behind his LED setup the whole time. Every now and then, we'd get the "top down" view on the side screens. Unfortunately they had to lower the screens when the wind came.
Really solid day 1 for the festival and me as well. There were a couple of parts in the earlier evening around when Odesza came on that the crowd was its most packed. I still don't get how this didn't sell out, but mother fuckers who didn't come missed out. I'm thinking there was a good 30,000 at the peak.
Once we figured out the bar and bathroom tricks, shit became smooth sailing. The bathrooms all the way to the back of the red stage area never had a line. That's contrasted with the oldest in agony for about 30 minutes after Bjork VR waiting in line by the green stage bathrooms. Also there was a couple of side bars you could go to that had no lines while others were waiting in 15-Deep lines. Haha.
They need to get some piss walls though in the high traffic areas because they work. We had some fried Japanese chicken, bulgogi and other shit to munch. No lines for the food trucks early or late but hit 4-9 or so. I just went outside and smoked a cigarette and it's cold as fucking fuck. Sun should help early, but until the wind dies down it's gonna be pretty raw. cmack was talking about getting there for 12 today and Ima try to meet up with Fuzzy though I'm not driving so I'm not sure when I'll be downtown. I'll likely have a super red Pelicans hoodie as the most outer layer so I will be easy to find. Schedule looks like
Nothing a few minutes of Daed or S U R V I V E Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats Lightning Bolt Anklepants Kamasi RZA Squarepusher Bjork Digital Buttholes Sophie Kaskade Arca
I'm going to try and get there at 12 toin up for the Björk digital.
It's about an 80 minute process. You wait for the people in the room ahead of you to clear out and you go to the next feature. I hope you get to see it man. It's probably the coolest tech experience I ever had. The standing up room which is the 4th room where you are on a tether and can move around a little and interact with Bjork's spirit was most memorable. That film was a 10 out of 10 for what it could have been.
The application for Android and iPhone is called biophilia. Here is a link to the video. Crazy next level shit from Bjork.
VR is a lot cooler than it sounds. Fully immersed perspectives. I'm excited for it. Going to get coffee and some breakfast then headout. Forget today's schedule but I'll figure it out.
Note: felt appropriate that as that front pushed in, it tore apart that poor Bubble art installation and half of it ended up bouncing around RTJ set. I started kicking em around. Launching em. That rain Was perfect.
