If I were closer, I would definitely try to pick up a cheap 3day off stub hub or something. There is enough going on Saturday and Sunday to make it worth it.
Friday I'd probably go Chicano Batman> lots of whiskey samples > Run The Jewels > Odesza
Saturday Classix> Night Sweats > Sturgill > Beach Slang > LCD is actually a pretty good run of shows and a late night New Pornographers would be fun.
Sunday > Whitney > Charles Bradley > Foxygen > BigThief > Adia Victoria > PJ Harvey > Spoon/Tycho > sure why not weezer is pretty great.

Agreed on deciding to come in on this late. Not terribly excited with the initial aside from a few things. Several of the adds were nice though. If it were in Knoxville and I didn't have to worry about a hotel, I'd definitely be considering it heavily.
Starting to get really excited for this as well! First time in Louisville, what are some must have eats?
I'd also recommend Doc Crow's. It's a good smokehouse a short walk away from the festival grounds. My wife and I have made it a tradition to stop in there every year. We also have taken friends there for the first time, and they walk away raving about it.
Every time i've been in Louisville I've gone to Bluegrass Brewing Company and had the brisket sandwich with their bourbon barrel aged stout and it's fucking perfect

BBC is another one of our go to places. We'll have to try that combination, though. It's sounds great!
Strongly considering picking up a Saturday pass for the husband and I (his father's day gift); we've never been- can anyone share what the set up is like? Looks like we would spend the whole day at the Boom stage until LCD starts. Are the stages far apart? Are the grounds tough to navigate? The only fests we've been to are Bonnaroo and LouFest (and SummerFest, but I don't really feel like that counts). I'm thinking we would Uber or Lyft in/out of the fest. Really any info about the fest would be appreciated

I am also doing a Saturday day pass. I am staying at the nearby Galt House, as I have in the past for this festival, so I cannot comment on the success of Uber or Lyft. I will say that the festival does not seem to have a major impact on traffic, from my observations.
Inside the fest, traversing from stage to stage is easily managed. The park is not very large (much smaller than Centeroo), and it is a short walk from stage to stage. You will have no problem catching shows at different stages.

Strongly considering a Saturday day pass for LCD. How is parking/traffic after the fest ends? Sorry if this has been asked I only skimmed the thread.
Parking and traffic first. There are several big lots near the area because its just a few blocks from the cities biggest hotels and the arena. So parking isn't a big issue other than Friday while people are still working. I've never waited more than like 15 minutes in traffic post-festival to get out of the area. It always go fast. Uber and Lyft move quick too but the prices will be jacked of course.
The grounds are very easy to navigate. This is a park when its not a music festival, so everything is sectioned off. The Boom Stage is just a 5 minute walk to the main stage, and you can walk the entire length of the grounds in probably 15. The only time its worse is between shows when a few passageways can bottleneck. But crowds are easy to manage at all but the biggest shows. If you are at the same stage for more than one show in a row, you'll get pretty damn close.
About a third of the festival grounds are beneath overpasses, which really help for shade when its hot in the middle of the day. Also the Ocean stage and most of the food is under there as well.
Forecastle will seem like a vacation if you're comparing it to Bonnaroo. The crowds are smaller, the wear and tear on the body is almost nonexistent. The only thing to worry about is the heat. So fingers crossed for a cold year with no rain if we can help it.

As a Louisvillian I highly recommend going. All of the hotels are incredibly close to the festival grounds and are very easy to get to, the festival is not big at all and extremely easy to navigate. The biggest complaint I have are all of the basic high schoolers simply going to take pics, but oh well. It's a great time nonetheless and honestly most of the hotels are within walking distance and you wouldn't even need Uber or Lyft unless you're trying to get out to bars after the fest ends.
Don't forget - Louisville is a bike friendly town. We used to take these 6 pack holders that fit around the main body bar on a bike.
Jeffersonville connects to Louisville with a pedestrian bridge (Big Four Bridge) that is an old railroad track, and it's perfect if anyone has to stay on the Indiana side. Entry/Exit at the south end of Waterfront Park.
Awesome, thanks for all the info! Not sure where we will stay since we would be booking pretty close, but nice to know that getting in and out shouldn't be a problem. Sounds sort of like LouFest set up, just with more shade, which sounds amazing. Really going to try to sell my husband on this tonight when we are out at the Saint Motel concert getting a little bit of that live music magic!
As far as getting in and out of the venue, it is just the standard bag searches like Bonnaroo too?

Yep, totally depends on whoever's line you get in. I've had people be super thorough and I've had people wave me right in. Even had one make me take off my hat once. But most of the time its chill. Police are inside the venue but their presence is very minimal. Crowds are your friend.

Cool, thanks. Just wanted to make sure there were no crazy bag limitations, etc since it won't be easy to just pop back and leave my stuff if I can't bring it in.
Any hotel recs? Would staying by the airport be too far or do we want to be walking distance?
I liked staying downtown when I went. The facebook page just announced a festival shuttle for this year that appears to leave from the Crown Plaza next to the airport. I don't know if they've had it before or if it's a good option though.

Hadn't seen that announcement, thanks for the input! We are trying to use hotel points, so obviously we get more bang for our buck if we are further from downtown, but if it was really worth it to stay closer, we could swing it.

1 of our couples has backed out, so I have 2 tickets at face, 162.50 GA WEEKEND. I also have an extra room reserved at the Hyatt Regency, 3 Nights 520.00 Total after taxes. This was the closest I could get in Jan. when I booked without spending over 200 per night. PM me if interested in 1 or both, I will cancel the room in a week or so if not needed. I would meet anyone interested in the tickets on opening day of the festival, we will roll in early afternoon.
So I bought a Saturday day pass for this, and I was wondering how the pit system works compared to Bonnaroo. I'm planning on seeing Joseph then camping at the MainStage for Nathaniel Rateliff-Sturgill-LCD. Past attendees, what is the best way to handle this?

There's not a pit system a la Bonnaroo, but the crowds are really fluid. If you're there from Nathaniel Rateliff on, i'd suspect you can get front 5 rows pretty easily.

This is probably a dumb question, but do they do wristbands for this fest a la bonnaroo, loufest, etc or is it just paper ticket admission? We got just a Saturday pass and we have to pick up at will call. Just curious if I wll get to add to my wristband collection (nerd).
Weekend ticket gets exchanged for fabric wristband but single day I think just gets a generic paper one or none at all. That's how it was back in 2012 at least. I remember being annoyed that I couldn't keep my stub since I have a poster made up from them.

There is usually a free preparty at Against The Grain brewery on Thursday. It's downtown close to the festival grounds and you can get your wristband early there.
