Would Eddie Vedder make sense for this? He's playing a number of September Festivals now. And if he was booked where would he be billed?
I would guess 5th.
You know this fest will be deep with hip-hop and EDM and attract those fans. Gorillaz and (maybe) Bon Iver will get the indieheads there. Vedder could get the older crowd there as well and help move VIP tickets, without totally busting the budget on some super pricey legacy act.
I went last year, the pavement really didn't bother me. I find the dust clouds at gov ball that always used to give me a sinus infection 3 days before bonnaroo more annoying.
I didn't care about my knees or anything like that - I would just think turf is aesthetically pleasing and it's nice to not be constantly reminded that you're in the Citi Field Parking Lot.
And as Launchpad said earlier - Mid September in NYC can still very easily be 85+ degrees. The front portion of Gov Ball's main stage on pavement is annoying as is in that heat - a complete sea of asphalt would be brutal.
Fair enough. I didn't even realize they moved this up to September.
I think Miike snow is likely for this (based on tour dates - unless I'm missing something?)
I'd be down. I only got to enjoy half of their Gov Ball set until it started POURING and I was not able to make their other NYC shows due to conflicts.

Love Eddie Vedder but he would make ZERO sense for this. Green Day on the other hand...

there's no way one of the top 3 isn't solid hip hop.
Very excited to hear the new Odesza tomorrow (judge me, I dont care).
same, out of all the "cheese" edm, they're one of my favorites.
Is it really cheese? I dunno. I consider Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, and all those "wait for the beat to drop!" DJs to be cheese.
Odesza, Flume, ect might be overexposed in the US, but to me they are still just chill. They dont yell at me to "get my fuckin hands up" at their live shows.
I am sure others have a difference of opinion though. Oh well.

thats exactly how i feel. throw porter into that also. plenty of people around here just see the same general crowd at each of their sets at fests and just lump them together.
I like Childish Gambino but I'm sorry if they put him in the Top 3 for this they deserve to get panned.
Chance was a unique situation because his popularity truly did spike between Meadows16 and GB17, I don't think you can say that about Childish. The best (and justified) case for Childish Gambino headlining Gov Ball is that it is an exclusive, but this is the same market and largely the same audience as Gov Ball so it would totally cheapen that exclusive appeal.
Side note: I think the Usher & the Roots combo makes a ton of sense for this.
Arcade Fire or The Black Keys would be my best guesses. But unfortunately I don't think we're getting another big time rock headliner.
Gorillaz ~ Big Name Hip-Hop ~ Big Name EDM or Female Pop Star
Black Keys are out of the commission for the time being with Dan doing his solo thing and Pat drumming for Michelle Branch. I don't think we'll be seeing them out again until they have a new album to push. AF would make sense, and I think they'll definitely be at Gov Ball next year, but I agree that a big rock headliner seems unlikely

Has Usher and the Roots been a successful booking? Id love to see em and I forget what the reviews were from Okeechobee. They've got Jazz Fest this week which I'm sure they'll do fine with that audience and the only other performance I know of is them replacing the Weeknd @ the F1 event at COTA (Austin).

Usher and the Roots have received rave reviews. Not sure though about their market power on festival lineups. And wouldn't they be at Roots Picnic NYC?

oh crap you are right yeah they would be at Roots Picnic if anything. Oh well.
For hip-hop headliner then I'll put my money on Future or Rihanna. I guess Drake is probably the favorite though.
