finally Maple Leaf! (their site has since crashed) Supposedly the secret show is Leon Bridges. Wish i could be there for that. I will likely be going to that Jon Cleary w/ the AMG show on Saturday for my lead-up show to Mastersounds.
What secret show are you referring to- one at the Maple Leaf?
Any idea what to expect for the Special Guest slated for 2nd Sat at Bamboulas/Frenchman Theatre?

Over the weekend, they showed "Secret Show" on their website calendar which now is blank for April. Currently on Jazz Fest Grids it says (and this is for Saturday first weekend), "Big Secret Show Will Be Announced 4/28".
The Days I'm for sure going:
1st Friday: Joe Krown Trio > Kermit . Trey Anastasio Band (with a look in at NAS & Soul Rebels)
2nd Thursday: Irvin Mayfield > George Porter Jr. & Runnin' Pardners > Wander > Widespread Panic (look in on Tower of Power)
2nd Saturday: Soul Rebels > Big Freedia > Dr. Michael White > The Lone Bellow > Snoop Dogg
Conscious Alliance will be set up at the Joy both night it would appear. They always do a poster for any events they are at and you can buy it for $20-30 or you can bring 20 can goods and trade it for the poster. They get really good artists sometimes. This one is still a TBA.
Anyways, I assume they would be set up outside for ease so would prob be easy to grab one and bring it back to the car. #biglotsdiscountvegetables

decided to see Sinkane and the drummer for Dr.Dog is opening @ Gasa Gasa for the first thursday. How is this venue? really loving their sound! seem like an international touring band so looks really fun.
I love Gasa Gasa. It's small, but I really like the two bar (indoor/outdoor) setup. Doesn't have great sound, but it's not especially bad or anything. Feels more like a bar with a stage than a music venue.

only negative is being 3.1 miles from my hotel and my group is prolly going to moe., but listening to these guys, something that i prolly won't pass up! super unique sound!

It is one of my favorite places to see music. It holds maybe 300 ppl (I am being generous) and that is sardine style. You need to make sure you are either on the right side of the stage or center stage, otherwise you get pushed into the side isle/foyer area which slants down towards the main area and is the only place that isn't great to watch. Even in the back closer to the bar is better. I have seen so many great shows there (Cloud Nothings, Man Man, Diarrhea Planet) I am always happy when someone I want to see gets announced to play there.
It is definitely more like a bar with a small stage.
Cool, because I'm likely going to see All Them Witches there next weekend if I'm in town on Saturday night.
jealous...love the new album and no Atlanta dates so far.
I didn't even know about it until yesterday, and I listened to it. I liked it, but I didn't like it as much as the last one (Mother Electricity). I need to give it more time.

it's a little different, but....wait a minute, Our Mother Electricity is 3 albums ago!...so yeah, you've got some progression to follow.

Fuck. I meant Dying Surfer.
We saw both sets at Voodoo last year. They did a mini set at Toyota Tent Friday and a full set Saturday. Both were great.

ah, yeah, well I've only listened to the new one a couple times on youtube, but it is a bit different. dying surfer and lighting at the door are very similar so I like hearing something a little different...I've always heard the Doors in their stuff and I think that side is more present on this one.
edit: ....they added dates! i'll be seeing them in june!
Head's up for anyone who wants to go see Jurassic 5 and Blackalicious as Howlin' Wolf. Howlin' Wolf sent out an email today that tickets are going fast. I grabbed mine as well as my moe. ticket for Friday 4/28. That solidifies the first weekend night shows with purchased tickets - moe., STS9, STS9 Axe the Cables.

Tribe has been on fire can't wait for those shows! Hitting the motet/dumpstaphunk Friday, and sinkane Thursday! Can't wait
bought my Jon Cleary ticket but missed the boat on a jacque-imo's reservation for that night. We'll have to brave the line i guess. did manage to get a table at Clancy's for thursday night at least

Ask for my ex-brother-in-law Jason (Woody). He is a waiter over there. Tell him his brother-in-law sent you. You'll get some hookups.
Blow off Jacque-Imo's and go to DTB, Boucherie, or Carrollton Market. Hit Crabby Jack's for an early Thursday lunch and get the paneed rabbit, stuffed mirliton, or fried chicken you maybe would have gotten at Jacque-Imo's. And a roast duck poboy.

I have two people in my group who insist we do Jacque-imos. It's kind of a birthday thing for them. I've stood in lines with friends and drank before. We'll survive
Oh I'm sure, and that's a fun place to wait since it'll be chaotic crowded and Frenchy's and other galleries should be open. You won't be disappointed. There's better, but I get the rite of passage aspect.
Like Jabco said, Crabby Jack's is his unassuming daytime restaurant and seafood market which does a lot of the same finger food. It's the first and only place I ever got a fried calamari po-boy - was outstanding btw. But they do the slow roasted duck and all that. So if you strike out when trying Jacques Imo's, there's always lunch the next day.
FWIW, while an ex-brother in law (at Clancy's), we still hang out all the time and are tight as shit. I'm serious on requesting him when you get there.
Oh, and I just got an email that Live for Live Music presents:

Fly in Wed evening, fly out Sunday morning
Wed: Dinner res at Bayonna Late night: Krasno/Burbridge/Trucks/Metzger at One Eyed Jacks
Thurs: Brunch res at Lola Distillery Dinner res at August Toughest decision yet: Jurassic 5, MMW+Cline or Revivalists. (Leaning towards J5 at this point) Late night: FIYA POWA at Maison (Moore, Collier, Neville, Big Sam etc)
Fri: JazzFest Karl Denson, LD and White Denim - Nightmare on Bourbon Street- Orpheum Late night: Bayou Rendezvous at Howlin Wolf
Sat: Brunch res at Brennans Dinner res at Dante's Kitchen Dustan Larouqe, Nels Cline + friends at the Music Box Late night: Soulive w Shady Horns at HOB
That is where Im currently sitting- still trying to find tickets to Midnight Preserves one night, so that could throw things off. Do most of the late night shows sell out? Do I need to worry about those tickets in advance?

None of the late night shows I've ever gone to have sold out, but probably some do. That shit reads like a fucking City Tourism Brochure for the well heeled. Bayona is one of my 2 most favorite restaurants in the city. Chef Spicer is an extraordinary talent. August is probably the best restaurant I've ever been to but slightly over my head. I'm super tight with the guy who runs that place so hit me up PM in a couple of weeks and I'll send you his name and shit. Worst case is you'll get a higher quality amuse Bouche or something. Brennan's is supposedly better these days with Slade Rushing having taken over the kitchen.
I was torn on the MM&W show as well because they are so great. But I opted for J5 show once they sent out the email that tickets were going fast. They are print at home and maybe present an opportunity to double your money if it sells out. It's a decent size venue but probably on the order of 600-700 people.

Nels Cline sealed the deal for me. Right now I'm leaning towards that show on Thursday, the 15th Annual Bayou Rendezvous at Howlin' Wolf on Friday (which goes until sunrise and includes Orgone), and Kamasi on Saturday.
“DUB DOWN BABYLON” BY DUSTAN LOUQUE, FEATURING NELS CLINE (WILCO) AND LOCAL LUMINARIES
Dustan Louque, a musician/impresario from St. James Parish, will make his directorial debut at the Music Box Village with his favorite musicians blending folk, dub and noise music. “The scene is set in post-apocalyptic New Orleans. After centuries of degrading the planet, humans destroyed nearly all life on earth and have fled to inhabit and deplete other planets. On this night in New Orleans, the survivors commune to regenerate through sound and movement.”
The eclectic list of musicians include Nels Cline (Wilco), Josh Werner (Lee “Scratch” Perry), Margaret Hebert (Classical Pianist), Rob Cambre (New Orleans Prophet of Noise), Eric Heigle (Arcade Fire, Lost Bayou Ramblers). More special guests will be announced soon.
