Heading down tomorrow night after work. My 4th year in a row but my first time going alone. So if you see a white guy with a beard in a hat with a camera... come say hi!
Live Stream Announced but I don't have the schedule. I want to say last year they showed most of the festival, so that would make for a jam ass weekend if so. The link to the stream from the article is here.
The 2017 Lockn’ Festival begins on Thursday at Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, Virginia and runs through Sunday. If you can’t make it to Lockn’ in person, there’s an option to follow the action from home or wherever you have an internet connection.
Lockn’ organizers have announced a livestream in partnership with Relix and YouTube. The Lockn’ Live webcast will begin on Thursday afternoon at 7 p.m. and will air daily from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. ET for the rest of the weekend. Fans in attendance or watching from home are asked to donate to the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation’s Heal Charlottesville Fund as 100% of donations will go to the fund thanks to the support of Ben & Jerry’s and Airstream. Head here for the Lockn’ livestream. Text “LOCKN” to 444999 to donate any amount you wish. All donations are tax-deductible, and administered by HeadCount.org.
“We’ve been thinking about different ways that we can try and re-direct the energy in the Charlottesville area and do something positive for the community,” says festival co-founder Peter Shapiro. “We wanted to enable anyone anywhere across the globe to experience the music and the great vibes at LOCKN’ and at the same time help support the cause. Ben & Jerry’s, Airstream and YouTube each stepped up quickly so 100% of what we raise will go to the Charlottesville Community Fund and HeadCount. Both organizations do the below the radar work everyday to help the world be a better place, so they were easy organizations to support right now.”
“LOCKN’ has always been about giving back and supporting the local community,” said HeadCount executive director Andy Bernstein, LOCKN’s longtime non-profit partner. “We raised over $200,000 on Participation Row in the last few years, for all the different non-profit organizations involved in the festival. Supporting the Heal Charlottesville Fund is another way for LOCKN’ to support the Charlottesville-area community.”
Widespread Panic, The Avett Brothers, Phil Lesh with Bob Weir and The Terrapin Family Band with Nicki Bluhm, Brandi Carlile, Gov’t Mule, Umphrey’s McGee, The String Cheese Incident, Jim James, Greensky Bluegrass, phil.moe, The Revivalists and John Fogerty are among the acts set to perform at this year’s Lockn’ Festival.
Good travels to all y'all on the way. If they broadcast Umphrey's, String Cheese, Umphrey's, String Cheese, Disco Biscuits tomorrow, they pretty much pulled a live stream version of 1998 New Jack dropping someone's head through 6 tables from the light fixture rigging on every other Thursday in the history of Festivals. ..i._
Couldnt ask for a better opening night musically. Left the Biscuits a bit early (it was so packed) to have a few beers at camp before checking out Garcia's Forest and Nicole Atkins at 2.
Overall I'd rate them a tie. I liked UM's 2nd set last night a little better than the SCI set though. They f'd up the livestream sound on the first one. Once they got it working, camera and video was fine. But it did cut in and out. I'm not bitching, it's free.
Nicole Atkins was great. A couple of her more country songs didnt hit with me but for someone I wasnt really planning on seeing two weeks ago, it was a killer set.
Best line of the night by her. "Her is one you may recognize...not because you know it...but because I ripped it off from Fraggle Rock...I hope I dont get sued".
She has a killer voice and great stage presence. Told stories of her going to fests for the past 20 years.
I just kicked it on at work for Tauk. They are one of the most underrated and unknown bands of the modern era. Apparently they played Marcus King Band prior, so they must be going according to schedule. I don't know if they're just going to ride the stream all day, but if so, it goes (in EDT):
1:55 - Sinkane 3:00 - Antiblas 4:00 - Blackberry Smoke 5:00 - Jim James Solo 6:00 - Brandi Carlile 7:00 - Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band 9:00 - Gov't Mule & Ann Wilson 11:00 - Phil Lesh & Bob Weir 12:00 - Joe Russo's Almost Dead
Notable tomorrow: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Keller Williams, John Butler Trio, WSMFP

Saw Marcus, Sinkane, Antibalas which were all good. Then back to camp for a nap (Im getting old). Phil and the Terrapin Family band with Bobby and Warren sit ins, Mule with Ann Wilson, The Terrapin set and the opener of JRAD before heading back to camp because its chilly and I didnt bring any warm gear with me. Having a couple beers before heading to Midnight North in Garcia's Forest and hoping for a Phil sit in.
Dont miss the Pigeons stream tomorrow and look for the guy on the rail in a neon Salmon "Where the flock are we?" shirt.
I didnt have a hat on. I was Jeremy side right next to the SVIP pit. Greg and Jeremy both pointed out my shirt. Pigeons killed it. Biggest crowd for a day set all weekend.
Caught a bit of Holly Bowling on the Terrapin stage early, then Pigeons, Keller, Greensky, John Butler, Fogerty and Panic. Fogerty was great. One of my favorite sets of the weekend. Panic rocked. Messed up my back and could barely walk so missed JRAD again. Pissed I missed Bobby.
Woke up to church with Keller. Probably head back down for Jorma with Moonalice and then most of the main stage stuff.
Jorma was great. I'm watching The Record Company. They played here a while back, but I didn't see them. I like them enough to add them as a pass by for Voodoo. No problem with blues rock at all. I want to see that Moonalice show too, so I hope they broadcast it. Dirty Dozen was great earlier.

After a long day of driving and running errands, finally settled back into my place. Pretty much had to choose between seeing Thursday night or today due to work, didn't want miss UM. Some quick notes
- UM 2nd set was off the charts. The crew and I really went all-in on Thursday, which I don't regret. String Cheese and the Disco Biscuits both sounded great as well.
- Govt Mule doing Zeppelin may have been the best music part of the weekend, IMO. Having Phil & Bob go into that and come back out for an encore made for a pretty special evening.
- Was pretty close for Greensky/Jon Butler/John Fogerty yesterday, all of which I enjoyed but wasn't blow away by. All my guys (including myself) were pretty worn half way thru Widespread, crashed fairly early last night.
- This makes my 3rd year doing Lockn in some fashion, crowd was thin compared to recent years. They could have used more water stations, but the weather was great.

Do you mean crowd was thin in the campgrounds or the venue? I know they made the stage grounds smaller this year but man it felt overpacked for any set 4pm on. We couldnt find anywhere to even stand for some sets and would have to hang on the walkways until soneone told us to move. I dont know how you could even fit more people. It was like that all the way back to the vendors. Relix Stage was so packed for the midnight sets and right in front of the entrance/exits so it was really tough for anyone wanting to get out. Water situation in the show grounds was bad. Just that one station that you had to walk through the crowd to get to. Thursday and Friday were both really hot. I cant imagine it 12 degrees hotter or whatever it usually is. A lot less wooks than most jam festivals and a lot more "bros". People did not seem as friendly. Our camp neighbors kind of sucked. A lot of walking even with the smaller grounds. That hill at the exit is a mountain by Saturday. Music was great. Id probably go Fogerty, Pigeons, Phil.moe, Terrapin set, Umph set 2 as my favorites of the weekend (missed both JRADs or that would be up there). Garcias Forest was awesome. Overall not exactly what I was expecting and with the cost, probably wont be back but sure glad I won some tickets and got to go this year.

They didn't use the amount of land and space inside the music area as they did in years past. They use to use the Blue Ride Bowl instead of the Relix Stage, and it was a 30 minute walk from the main stage - it could also hold a lot more people than the Relix Stage. That's why it felt so crowded, they just packed everybody in to a close proximity.
I'm with ya on the cost. My group was lucky because we had nice camping spot a few miles away from the fest. Tickets/Camping/Park is all way too damn high.
