Coachella wins this battle for me. But that’s probably because I don’t care for bon iver. Virtual self, broken social scene and Anderson park are great gets. But overall Coachella is the queen in this castle
You expected this lineup to compete with Coachella?
If there was one year bonnaroo had a chance to, it was this year. But that still didn’t happen

This is the worst set of headliners for my tastes they've ever had, which is sucks because unopposed headliners and the pit system is one of the biggest draws of this festival. The undercard is WAYYY better than last year though.
Would probably go if I still lived close and could get a ticket on Craigslist for $250.
I think everyone's lowered expectations are really distorting the opinions on this. This is not good.
oh without a doubt.
still better than 2017 and 2016 though.
2017 maybe.
2016 still had (and this is obviously subjective to my tastes) - Tame Impala, Father John Misty, LCD Soundsystem, Miguel, Vince Staples, Blood Orange, Dead and Company, M83, Kamasi Washington, Jason Isbell, Tyler the Creator, Ween, Vulfpeck, Claypool Lennon Delirium, and Lizzo.
I thought 2016 was bad and didn't go. But to me this year's lineup doesn't come close to topping that.

I think I've said this a few times on here, but Anderson Paak's new album has been done for a while, I know someone with loose connections to his management. Apparently there's a song with Lenny Kravitz on it.

2016's headliners absolutely crush this year's, without a doubt.
but comparing 2018 vs 2016 undercard, 2018 still looks a little better to me. But comparing 2016 vs 2018 undercards is like arguing the attributes of two different Red Delicious Apples. Neither are going to taste that good, but the 2018 Red Delicious Apple looks a little shinier.
Just so you know that Bonnaroo didn't get The Chainsmokers, Halsey, Twenty One Pilots, Post Malone, Martin Garrix or any edgy soundcloud rapper whilst they probably could have booked them and could've focused more on "what the kids want". Yet the only big mainstream pop acts are Khalid and Dua Lipa..
Maybe I had my expectations so far in the shitter that it doesn't matter but I think this lineup is just fine. I actually prefer Muse to Jack White so that was actually an upgrade for me. Bookings like Sturgill and Bon Iver which feel out of nowhere were nice too. Probably not a good enough lineup to get a group of us to travel from Chicago but I def expected worse.

How the heck did Dua Lipa get booked so high up though?

She has kind of blown up recently but I'm guessing they are expecting her to blow up even more before June. Still looks weird to have her that high.

I've never listened to Dua Lipa but just checked and she has ridiculous Spotify numbers. The only artist above her with more monthly listeners is Eminem

It's almost funny how any other female pop artist got slammed into a corner by Lorde's Melodrama but Dua Lipa's self titled was a huge succes (just look at her streaming numbers alone). She's been on the radio for the whole year pretty much; New Rules, Scared To Be Lonely, Be The One etc etc.. She's just like Khalid an upcoming pop phenomenon with a huge following though she could've been billed a little bit lower, yes. Idk how her stage production is right now but I reckon she's a lot bigger than Charli XCX, MO, Tove Lo, Anne-Marie and Zara Larsson.. Not on the level of Halsey or Lorde ofcourse but right under I think.

I saw this as well. Was shocked at where she is lineup wise but i guess that justifies it? I just didn't think she became so big within that year.

Two sets from Bon Iver is probably the most interesting undercard thing they’ve had in years, plus Anderson Paak is potentially about to blow up and so far hasn’t done a ton of fests. But that’s basically it for noteworthy stuff on here. If I rank ordered all of the last 3 top 4s these headliners would all be in the bottom.
On a personal level, even though the Bon Iver booking is really cool, we’re two years into his album cycle and I’ve managed to already see full band and acoustic shows from him in the last year. Plus I can’t help thinking that back in the old days Bonnaroo would have shaped a lineup around a booking like this and loaded up on the type of stuff Justin Vernon books at Eaix Claires instead of having the bottom half of this lineup filled with corporate sponsored nobodies. And on a very spoiled note, as cool as Paak is, whatever he does probably won’t top the set I saw him play with Kendrick and Dr Dre at Coachella.
Just woke up and saw it and I think it’s pretty good. Much better than expected. If I can find a ticket on StubHub for cheap I’m definitely down. That bottom half is rough though. I’m glad they’re back to booking unique acts

I've noticed Roo does this sometimes with their bottom line alums.....they put out a huge hit and Roo give them prime billing the following year with expectations they'll be the next big thing. New Rules is a big song and all (I think it cracked the billboard top 10?) but putting her on the 3rd line is pretty wild. Unless this is like a US festival exclusive set?
