I would love for this to turn into a legit 3 day fest instead of a VIP Friday and a Saturday/Sunday general fest day. Do 3 days and end Sunday early, after the headlining set.. and have a better flow between sets. Do a VIP day Thursday night if you must.. but 2 days was just not enough especially when the majority of fans left early Saturday due to rain.
It's probably 20 or so pages back, but there's a link to an article where they're trying to make this a 5 day fest long term. That will obviously require additional attendees and much more planning on their part than just putting on a 2 1/2 day thing. But that's the goal.

Mine were f'd after 3 hours Friday and all day Saturday. But they're back to reasonably okay now. I'm not sure what all they want to incorporate into it, as in will it be 5 days of music or just Sat/Sun and then some night musical events like this year's Friday? Will there be multiple days of speakers? Can they even pull it off without a SXSW style multiple-venue arrangement even with some seminars beyond featured speakers? I don't know. They were f'n vague. And it was noted as a long term goal, so whether that's 2020, 2025 or beyond (assuming they continue to grow), there's no telling.
IMHO, it's not a broad or mass appeal festival and is more geared toward music geeks who are willing to check new shit out for themselves.

i doubt they're planning 2025 at this point. they could do coding workshops, more in depth discussion with the visual artists (that seemed to be missing from the summit), more speakers, I would really enjoy a 'museum' styled day with no music and just art that way I'm not like "this is cool, but mount kimbe and jesus lizard just started can we please go downstairs now...."

what i pictured when he said 5 day event was more like lots of after shows, both art and music shows or art/music combined, maybe industry gatherings, that kind of stuff. both D4N official and events put on by other promoters in the city. so similar to jazzfest, movement, even ultra does this I think. Give people a reason to come to Houston for a full week rather than just a weekend.
Just wanted to say that it's awesome hearing such positive responses about this whole festival from everyone here. Flew down from Washington state and went all three days and I must say it was unbelievable! Been going to festivals for over a decade and this one is by far the most unique and visually stunning I've ever experienced. Will definitely be making the trip back next year!
How was St Vincent? I'm disappointed to hear she's not touring with a band.
Apparently after her run of shows in the spring, she's bringing the band back. Presumably for the summer/fall festival circuit and I'm sure additional legs of her own tour. Someone asked her at a VIP Q&A recently.
That's unfortunate, I have tickets to see her for the first time in January so I was hoping for a full band. Good to know.
If I attend next year I am definitely bringing a full set of rain gear (rain pants, galoshes, impenetrable rain jacket) to deal with the hurricane-like deluges that are the norm now in Houston. Maybe a collapsible boat if I can stash it somewhere in the building.

inflatable rafts were all the rage during flood season
I am still missing this weekend!! Come back to meeeeee
Yeah. Fuck this postpartum shit. I’m still not right and it’s been 5 Days. Playing in the city grail dart championship, Fantasy Football, lots of celebratory lunches and it’s Christmas! but I’m still missing last weekend.
What I also missed according to YouTube was a fuckload of art installations. Because of my music schedule, I had way less time than I should have to get upstairs. It’s my loss in a way, though had that area opened up on Friday or had the festival opened at 12 on Saturday, I would have had more time to see more art.
I didn’t get Buku’s magnet last year and that ended up being cool, but this is pretty psycho.

I wasn’t psyched when they announced a magnet. I guess I expected something lame like the collector’s items Bonnaroo gives with its wristband purchases. Definitely regretting not getting that. I should have known this fest would have something special in store.
The magnet was the first thing I asked about at the merch booth, was really hoping I'd be able to snag one. Didn't have a single one for sale, not even one around to look at.
If anyone isn't attached to theirs, or has an extra, I'd be more than willing to buy it from you!

I’m a dummy for not trying to buy a poster. I just totally spaced.
Pretty sure they didn't have an official fest poster, but some of the bands were selling their own (probably tour posters) which are a dime a dozen tbh.

It was like a $10-15 addition to the ticket price. Even it was lame (totally wasn't) the cost was reasonable, especially compared to the $125 PHOTO-LUMINESCENT RAIN JACKET. I'm sorry but anyone who bought that needs to seriously devote themselves to either trickle-down economics or a remedial course in budgeting and savings.
Haha. How about some mfers thought it was cool and made a decision to get one. The other guy I know who got one got offered 200 on Saturday because they were sold out. He said no. I might have cut the chord at 200 and recouped the money and then some, but I was way under budget for the weekend and didn’t get the offer because I didn’t wear mine.
